Would You Have A Computer Chip Planted in Your Brain? email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 96/100. Louc74 (213)   ranked 187 out of 3,979 in thinker4 months ago

Computer scientists are saying that by 2035, BCI (Brain Computer Interface) will be rolled out, en masse, to the public.

They're speaking about computer chips implanted into the brain to increase its capacity, to allow us to locate a memory by choosing from lists, to enhance the senses, and even to allow us to link in with one anothers thoughts by means of radio transmissions.

It would also act as identification for people, likened to "a registration plate on a car".

I think this is a really cool technology that they're developing, in theory, but I think in practice, it's really pretty scary, and there's no way they'd put a chip in my brain unless it was to help with some kind of disability.

What do you think? Would you be happy to be computer enhanced?

Well, if this meant that I would be getting a cool new "Spider sense"-like thing, as also super memory capability, then I can't see why I won't be going in for it (I won't be able to afford it, though, but that's a different matter!!!) If we can go online, chat with friends, surf the web, without ever having to carry any extra piece of hardware, that will surely be an advantage. But of course, all this needs to come in a safe, risk-free manner. At the end of the day, we all know that the brain is a delicate part of the body and without it, we are a goner. So, if we ever go in for a brain enhancement, we shall have to find out whether this is really going to enhance our brain's capability or destroy whatever it already has. We must live first in order to enjoy the technology advancements. It wouldn't pay if we die in the attempt to become more tech-savvy. Cheers.

Lol! I like your thinking. That's how I feel: it would be really cool to have some of the things they're speaking about, like face recognition, increased memory, and yeah, linking to the web, as well as a kind of computer generated "telephathy"! But then we'd all just stop speaking to each other! It's kind of cool, but scary at the same time, but they're now talking about this as if it's just a matter of time, really.

Thanks for the comment!:)

I think it is a good idea to enhance human functions with the use of computer chip implants and it is possible that it would be viable to replace mobile phones and bulk computers in terms of accessibility for our everyday routines. However, personally I won't go for such implantations of these chips inside my body mostly not inside my skull just for the reason that it would turn us our semi-humans with electronics stuff inside me.

myLot reputation of 96/100. Louc74 (213)   ranked 187 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

Good points. It might be good to overcome some disabilities, or brain injuries, but I think I'm with you in that I don't fancy something like that inside my body either.

The brain is the most precious thing, and all information is here, so we must be careful to enter it here. If we are online and do all the activities, of course they can access each of the brain that use the chips. Needed a software to ensure that the device is safe and not easy people to view or change data. Any information entered must be absolutely protected from viruses and all sorts of harm us. I would prefer to use ordinary technology, because if we make improvements to a computer that does not fit with our capabilities there will be a very fatal damage.

myLot reputation of 96/100. Louc74 (213)   ranked 187 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

Yeah, it's pretty scary. I've thought about what would happen if you got a virus. And if the software just "froze", like computer screens, there would be people walking around, slapping themselves on the side of the head, mumbling "Stupid bloody thing!" Lmao!

I think that this is very unnatural and unnecessary this experiment shoud only be used for treatment if required for mental health or mobility or dissability issues. To do something so outrageous for the purpose that it thinks it will give us a better brain. I mean come one what about the creative and intuitive side of the brain i think it is a ploy to turn us all into robots to follow the norm. And how dangerous is it? Is it worth letting people risk their lives for.

myLot reputation of 96/100. Louc74 (213)   ranked 187 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

Yeah, I think most people so far seem to be in agreement with you. I've just had another thought though, that when people first started getting plastic surgery, most people thought it was ridiculous to risk your health like that. But nowadays, it's generally accepted, and just the norm. Maybe that's what will happen with CBI?

It's like they say, too much of a good thing can be bad. Sure, they advertise is as something that would revolutionize the world... "it'll make you smarter, faster, stronger!" Bull. Just give them a few years and they'll be controlling your every action with those little BCI things. Sounds crazy, right? Nothing is impossible. And I'd rather be safe than sorry.

myLot reputation of 96/100. Louc74 (213)   ranked 187 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

Hey! Thanks for commenting. No, I don't think that sounds crazy at all! They're saying it will allow you to access all the info in your brain, so if you can, that means the governments will be able to as well, and from there, it's just another couple of steps to wipe out free will, and start controlling people. The more people are commenting, the scarier it's sounding! Hopefully people won't be lining up to buy into it if/when they do perfect it.

myLot reputation of 81/100. jeneias (230)   ranked 817 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

I agree. And I don't mean to sound like some fanatic Christian (although I am a Christian), but I do believe that with this type of technology, we're getting closer and closer to the 666 spoken about in the Bible. Yea, sorry to get "religious" there, but that's what this little chip reminds me of! And it's scary!

myLot reputation of 96/100. Louc74 (213)   ranked 187 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

Lol! You're not the only one who's said that kind of thing! Maybe it reminds us of Terminator, Judgment Day? It is pretty scary the more you think about it.:S

Hi Louc74,

I think this would be a revolutionary thing in the future .
This would help many people with certain disabilities in doing
their daily activities .

However, personally;I would not like such a thing as I think this might
bring some untoward changes or side-effects for us .

With Best Regards

-Ptrikha_2

myLot reputation of 96/100. Louc74 (213)   ranked 187 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

Hi, Ptrikha, thanks for the comment. You're right, and a lot of disabilities can be caused by brain injuries, so that would be amazing, but I think most people are thinking that if you're healthy, leave well enough alone!

It would definately be cool to have a chip. Downloading homework would not be fun though. Having a chip could benefit in many ways like saving medical records, identification and stuff. However, its like losing out 'mankindhood'. I dont know how to phrase but you know what i mean. Its like humans turning into robots. I do believe in helping people by using technology. These are exceptions. But to further amplify or learn skills using chips are just a nono for me. Further more, on the side note, these BCIs may have something to do with the illuminati=D

myLot reputation of 96/100. Louc74 (213)   ranked 187 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

Yup, like losing a part of your humanity, and I wonder whether peoples personalities would be affected as well? It's scientists and computer whizz kids who are saying this is what they'll be producing in the future, but governments and the powers that be,including the elusive illuminati, I imagine, definitely would be using it to keep an eye on us if they could once it's developed fully.

Cheers for the comment.:)

I'd probably wait and observe for any side-effects, problems, glitches etc. before finally making a decision if such a system were ever implemented in the future. Although, knowing the type of person I am, I'd probably refuse this BCI for the sole intention of "rebelling" and remaining unique.

I must admit, with the way technology has progressed over the years, one can only imagine what's in store for the future, and if it's a future that will have either a negative or positive impact on mankind.

It's depressing to think that in the next decade, all printed media will be non-existent, despite being around for centuries. Life moves on, I suppose. However, with any hope, technology will never end up completely dominating our lives and replacing many things we currently enjoy.

myLot reputation of 96/100. Louc74 (213)   ranked 187 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

Well, there's a point: who on earth are going to be the first human subjects to volunteer for this in order to test for any problems? It would be a brave person! I'm with you 100% on being a rebel! There's no way they're taking my library of books away from me! Lol! I think, to judge from the responses, that people will object strongly if they ever try to take it too far. Fingers crossed, anyway.

Hello Louc74, u need not fear. By 2035, u will be around 55 years of age, and disabilities will start appearing around that time.:) It is not scary at all. U will be safer. Anybody who is threatening u in ur house, the chip will immediately convey to the server, and there will be people in the vicinity of your home who will be alerted. Think - there will be no burgalaries, no murders, no thefts, no fighting, just plain human beings with smiles like on plastic dolls. Interesting thought. But before that, stem cell discoveries will completely take the world by storm. We might be buying organs offshel. I love technology.:) Pity I may not be around to see that era. Even if I am, I will be too old.:(

What a scary thought! Like Stepford people! I just hope euthanasia has been legalised by that time, I'll just choose to step off this crazy mortal coil! Lol!

Everything that has come up with technology has been made very vast use of by we humans.
I think this idea wouldn't be accepted by people who are satisfied with their mental capacities and intellectual. The people who are in need for a little more in terms of ideas and a brain,, like you mention with planned activities, would be accepted.
The life of a person is of such a great value to them, they will not blindly accept this technological aspect coming up in the time ahead of us.This chip is not only scary its, kind of chip that came in the spiderman2 movie, made by DR Octavias, for his nuclear fusion,in the back of his neck, ain't this some what like that.

myLot reputation of 96/100. Louc74 (213)   ranked 187 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

Hi, Tintukm, thanks for the comment! I guess it's the general idea, enhancement of the human mind/brain via computer technology. The human brain isn't fully understood yet, so who knows if a computer chip (or several, depending on what attributes you want!) would interfere with other parts of the brain. The bodys response to foreign matter, as well, is to reject it, but I suppose by 2035, they'll have come up with an answer to that one, maybe.:)

myLot reputation of 94/100. tintukm (451)   ranked 1,581 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

Its real technology, well in the year 2035 anything would have come up and may be we would go with the new innovations and then after a long use of that, would think of not using it or may be keep on using it.
The brain chip you suggested may come up pretty soon, with the ultra nano science in the picture of our world today. thumbup

osbornclet77 (2)  4 months ago

Although what technology has done us, the very practice of implanting a chip in
our brains, defiles the idea of us being humans, in the near future, we may totallly resemble robotic forms
so all i can say is " long live the Human Race"

myLot reputation of 94/100. tintukm (451)   ranked 1,581 out of 3,979 in thinker  4 months ago

Well humans mustn't never be replaced by some kind of robots even though we as humans create them.Well said long live human race, let it be a never ending race, right. thumbup
