South Carolina Republican House of Reps finally getting a clue |
| |
| We all know about what Gov. Sanford did. He abandoned the state, left the country and had an affair. Here is the real shocker. THe man is still in office. Why? Well it is not because the population of SC wants him there. He abandoned us and we want him gone. He has refused to resign. So therefore it was to the state house of representatives to impeach him. Have they done it? No. Why? Well for strictly political reasons. The democrats don't want to impeach him because his replacement (the current lt. gov) would get moved up to Gov. Which would give him an advantage in the next election. Which is more important I guess to the dems than getting teh jerk out of office. Then lets look at the republican side of the house. They did not want to do it because 1. The scandel on the party of having him impeached 2. THey don't really like the Lt. Gov and don't want him to Gov. 3. THey were hoping the whole thing would just blow over. Well it is not going to blow over. The poeple of this state want him gone. So what if the ethics probes said he did not illegal use state money. He is still ABANDONED the state. Well the people have SC have not let this blow over. ANd we have been vocal enough to finally get someone (anyone) to do something about this. We have even threatened now to re-elect members of the house if htey don't get rid of him. The republican members are now calling for Sanford to resign or they WILL impeach him SOON. ABout time. The democratic side of the house has basically decided they are going to stay our of it. Hey he is you guys gov. too you know. Why couldnt someone have done this sooner. WHy all the political games by both sides. | | | | | |

| | He can't be charge under the law because the affair did not happen in South Carolina. It did not even happen in this country. So sense the adultry was not committed in the state he can not be charged. Trust me....people in this state have looked into it. Plus no one has EVER been prosecuted under that law. No one has ever gone to jail in the state of SC for committing adultery. The law is on the books but not inforced. It does need to taken off the books to tell you the truth. Honestly I could care less about the affair. That is between him and his wife. What I care about him disappearing on us. No one was left in charge. No one knew where he was. He abandoned his post. So therefore he should not get to keep it. | | | |

| | oh, my understanding was that the law was written in such a way that it didn't matter where the adultery took place. but, as you said, it should be removed, since well, it's not being enforced...so, who would it be that would have it removed, your governor and state legislature? that is why I said prosecute him.... all over the country there are laws on the books like that that never get cleaned up because the ones responsible for such things are too busy doing a bunch of crap that they have no business doing.... just a little, oh I don't know, poetic justice or something in it. | | | |

| | It would have to be the state house of representatives that would have to take the law off the books. And they won't. Why? Because then it would make them look "pro-adultry". So therefore htey don't take it off hte books....but they don't enforce it. Stupid I know. As for hte law....well state laws are only enforceable within the state and the crime has to have happened in the state. Plus you add in that Sanford left the country. So therefore the actions were not even committed in teh country so not even federal laws would cover it. Federal laws only apply within the country....state laws only apply within that state. Sanford won't resign. He will make them impeach him. I hope they get it done before the end of the year. I really liked Sanford before this happened. Most of the state really liked him before this happened. He has really high approval ratings. But he messed up and he has to pay the price. | | | |

| | ****Typo correction**** ".....aren't going to do this we also have good control of our states." should have read: "...aren't going to do this UNLESS we also have good control of our states." | | | |

| | Trust me the only reason they are willing to do anything about this now is because of hte coming up primaries. If they were not around the corner they would not be doing a dang thing. I completely agree with you. Until we as citizens get a better control over our state governments we don't have a prayer with the federal government. | | | |

| | I hadn't thought about the democrat's side on the matter. I know that the republicans in the state legislature have been calling on him to resign though. I think that maybe they consider a resignation more expedient and less shameful than having one of their own booted out of office. | | | | | | |

| | He won't leave so they are going to have to kick him out. I just wish they would have done it already. | | | |

| | Mark Sanford should just do the right thing and resign. He decided that the love of this woman was more important than his job, nothing wrong with that, but ever action has its own consequences. The SC House Republicans should go old yellow on Sanford and put him out of his miseries. To story of Sanford sound to me, at lest, of a guy that hates his job, but does not want to quit. I have know a few guys could not stand their job and did everything possible to get fired. | | | | | | |

| | Ya but the house republican and democrat don't see to really want to kick him out. THe only reason the republicans are trying to do it now isbecause it did not blow over like they thought it would. The people of this state are still mad and still want him gone. And we have not let them forget. Elections are coming up. So they know either get rid of him or we get rid of you. | | | |

| | It's about time! I know if I lived in your state I'D want him gone! I thought when he went missing and nobody knew how to contact him he should have been gone then. It didn't matter what he was doing or with whom, he'd abandoned his duties and his state. I doubt that most of us outside of S.C. would have heard much about that story in the beginning if he hadn't been touted as a possible contender for the GOP Presidential nomination in 2012 but the very fact of his actions took him out of the running for national office, in my opinion. His confession of his affair didn't change my opinion either way but then when he kept on talking about it and called his lover his "soul mate" that not only turned my stomach but made me doubt his sanity. Then his hypocrisy came to light with the reports of his extravagant travel expenses charged to the state. That may be the technicality on which they remove him but to me it's a more simple matter of him simply not being fit for office! Annie | | | | | | |
