When my little guy was younger I decided that I wanted to make his food. I wasn't impressed with the jarred food I was finding. He loves my peas, avocado, and bananas. I find that making my babies food is cheaper than store bought and I know its' fresh. It's so easy and it kind of makes me feel like super mom:) What are some of your babies favorite foods? What did they hate?

I made my own baby food a little. It does give you the greatest feeling to do it on your own, doesn't it? I, also, found it to be less expensive. The only real drawback I had with it was that I would buy, for example, a bag of frozen broccoli. It seemed like all my poor boy ate was broccoli. I found it difficult to give him the variety he needed in his diet. One of my son's favorite dishes was steamed (very soft) broccoli and cauliflower blended with a tiny bit of butter and salt.
I did feed him store bought baby food too. I got baby cereal from the grocery store, and foods that included DHA. The DHA is supposed to help brain and eye development and my son has a genetic disorder that will make...well...slow. So anything I can do for his brain, I do. I can't add DHA to food that I make.
My son eats like crazy. I've fed him many, many foods and so far the only thing he hasn't liked was cucumber. He will eat all the cantelope you will give him, bananas, scrambled eggs...etc...Honestly, the kid just eats anything. ha ha.
Obviously, some of the foods I named shouldn't be fed to very small children, like, under a year old. But after your child gets enough teeth to chew there shouldn't be a problem with any of the foods I mentioned.

My babies are teenagers now, but when they were babies, I did make my own baby food. I still bought jars of store bought baby food, but when time was convenient for it, I spent a lot of time with my food processor and a baby food cookbook.

Before my little one was born, I had decided to make my own baby food. We were on a tight budget, so I thought making my own food would be budget-friendly plus it would be much healthier (and not as processed) for the baby. I was a stay at home mom, so I had the time to make it, and I loved cooking it for our baby! We're expecting a second one now, and although our finanacial situation is much better than it was, I am intending to still make homemade baby food when the time comes!

My little one had a highly sensitive gagging reflex, so she had pureed foods for a long time. I crockpotted, baked, or steamed vegetables and fruits and pureed them in a small food processor especially for making baby food. I bought ice cube trays that made little, half balls (I believe it was a Martha Steward product) to freeze them in. The cubes were so little that I could thaw them out quickly and mix up the flavors so it wasn't just one vegetable.

My little one happily ate almost everything I made. Applesauce and mashed bananas were always a hit, as were other fruits. White peaches and persimmons did not make good baby food. Most of the orange vegetables were good - like yams and carrots. However, the other types of squashes (like acorn) had to be mixed with a bit of fruit puree. The greens were harder, but she liked spinach and broccoli. I gave her peas when she was able to handle whole peas.

Meat was not a favorite. I cooked chicken the first time and pureed it. I didn't know that meat purees were super strong tasting . . . well, I found out when she took her first bite! It was hard to even mix meat with veggies because the meat taste was overpowering.

Yes, I felt like a super mom too!!! :)

My son mostly ate jarred baby food, but when my daughter was born she did not eat much jarred foods at all. She loved just about every fruit and veggie as a baby, so it was really easy to just mash up what I was eating for her. I think her favorite was baked sweet potato.

I didn't know how easy it was going to be to make my baby's food. He loves it when I mash bananas and add peach juice to them. It looks gross, but I also take things like speghetti and make it smaller for him to eat with his little fingers...but he actually likes string beans and carrots too..
