Do you have a digital camera? |
|
And if so, how long have you had it for? I've had my current digital camera for the past 3 and a half years and by the looks of it, it went out on me (died). I thought that maybe it was just the batteries that needed charging, but after I charged them the camera won't turn on at all when I hit the power button.
Here I just used this camera a few days ago and it worked great. And now...nothing.
(Just for the record it is an OLYMPUS SP-320.)
Does anyone know how long digital cameras are supposed to last?

1. andalond (3388) | 3 months ago | I have no idea. My first digital camera my husband bought when I had my daughter. It got stolen around 2005 and then he replaced it but on our trip to Disneyland I think the kids accidently stepped on the screen and broke it. I bought another one last year and it only cost me under 60 bucks. I love my camera because I take videos and pictures with it all the time.

andalond (3388) | 3 months ago | I deleted my avatar because someone posted my picture in a discussion. Long story but I deleted all my pictures because I didn't know how this person would use any of my kids pictures as well. It was such a mess. I informed mylot about it so they removed the discussion.

andalond (3388) | 3 months ago | I was wondering about that myself and I was just wondering if it was just a glich in the system but I found out what she did. She saved my picture to all photos in the system and with the discussion comment she had made. Thank you. I reported it just right now to mylot and hopefully it will be removed. This lady has been nothing but trouble to me. I was thinking about the whole thing and she is one to call the kettle black when all the things she posted were lies. I am glad mylot is aware because if I see one comment referring directly to me again I will write mylot until they really do something.

sacmom (5777) | 3 months ago | Another thing you could do is upload a different picture altogether and use that as your avatar. It doesn't have to be a picture of yourself or your family. It could be a picture of the sky, a flower, a favorite animal, etc. Hopefully that way it will reset it and the avatar you deleted will be no more.

2. horsesrule (1791) | 3 months ago | I'm not sure how long they are supposed to last but we have never had one last longer than a couple of years and some of them have lasted less than that. We have gone through almost 10 cameras in the the past ten years but we use them heavily, taking lots and lots of pictures.

4. James72 (6960) | 3 months ago | I only just bought a new digital camera about a month ago because my old camera was having exactly the same kind of problem you're having. It was a 5MP Kodak camera and quite old actually. I first bought it about 4 years ago, so I guess it lasted for some time. It got to the point where I was going through batteries unbelievably fast, so I decided that to buy a new camera would end up cheaper for me in the long run! Personally I think 3 and a half years isn't a bad shelf life at all. Aside from maybe sending the camera to an Olympus service centre, I'd suggest you get a new one if you're able. It's not under warranty anymore and would probably end up being relatively expensive to fix anyway.

The_Lamb_Lies_Down (2595) | 3 months ago | You know...old style 35mm film cameras actually were pretty rugged and lasted years and years without needing replaced...I had a fairly nice one with interchangable lenses and all that for a year or so, but it mysteriously disappeared when I let a "friend" stay with me for a few weeks several years back, and I never could afford to get another...

The_Lamb_Lies_Down (2595) | 3 months ago | I still haven't bought a digital one yet...I guess that is about the only choice there is now, unfortunately...

6. The_Lamb_Lies_Down (2595) | 3 months ago | I haven't bought a digital camera yet...it appears to me that they don't last as long as an old 35mmSLR camera would...but it is almost impossible to get those or film for them anymore, so I guess eventually I will have to get a digital cam.

7. moonchild1au (828) | 3 months ago | I have a cannon powershot that I bought in July 2005 & it's still going strong. I'm not sure what their life span is supposed to be but you would think it would be at least 5 years!!! I hope you got your monies worth. Are you gonna get it checked out by a repairer or not bother?

8. aseretdd (6841) | 3 months ago | My very first digital camera was a kodak and it lasted only two years... the lens wouldn't come out when it turn it on... and when i made a research about it... seems like i was not the only one who encountered that problem... and there is just no way of repairing it even if send it to a kodak center...
Right now, i have a canon digital camera... it turned 2 years old last april... and hasn't shown any signs of slowing down... and i hope it will last very long...since i don't have the money to replace it with a new one...

10. JenInTN (3487) | 3 months ago | I'm not sure. My b/f's mom just had one tear up on her and I think she's had hers for about that long too. I don't think three years is long enough. It needs to be a lot longer than that.

sacmom (5777) | 3 months ago | I don't think so either. Fortunately for me, mine didn't kick the bucket. Apparently the rechargeable batteries were older than I realized. What's strange is that my charger showed them as good. Go figure!
