my grandson is five & has not lost a tooth yet but knows that he will. he is all freaked out about a fairy coming into his room he ask his parents if when he did lose his first tooth could they just e-mail the tooth fairy & tell her so she wouldn't come to his room. It is funny but i think it's sad to that he is afraid of that happening. What do u think?

Hello Aunty, can you ask him to put in a good word for me with the tooth fairy please?

Personally my answer won't go down to well I'm sure but as the tooth fairy is actually imaginary but the idea is scaring your grandson then he should just be told the truth right off. I always presumed that children just go along with these ideas to humour their parents anyway but he needs to know there is no such thing as the tooth fairy, it's all made up.

I can't remember actually ever believing in anything like that, including santa, but I always had a very questioning streak even from a young age and the idea of fairies just didn't seem very realistic. My own son has inherited my cynicism and the only part of it he believes is that some money will materialise under his pillow but he knows exactly where it comes from. And believe me it hasn't ruined his childhood. So I think of good injection of reality is called for, there's enough real things in the world for your grandson to be afraid of without the need to invent childhood creepies.happy

I agree w/you. I haven't seen him since i heard this story in fact i wasn't told about it my son put it on facebook. He has always been afraid of things & i don't like for him to be that way. He can be & is all boy but at times i see this in him & it worries me. They treat him too much as an adult i think sometimes.

myLot reputation of 96/100. thea09 (5382)  3 years ago

I don't see that telling him about fairies is treating him like an adult but I don't know why parents do tell them all these made up things in the first place. If the child believes in any of that then he's only going to be disappointed when he finds out the truth and wonders why his parents lied to him when they are meant to be the ones teaching him never to tell lies.
I asked my own son for his opinion on this after responding earlier and he just laughed at the idea of anyone believing in this kind of stuff, chip off the old block I'd say.
If you're son has got time to put things up about your son on an internet site why can't he phone or email you to keep in touch? It must be horrible to find out things about your grandson on the internet Aunty. sad

myLot reputation of 96/100. ANTIQUELADY (16514)   ranked 4 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

I didn't mean telling him about the fairy was treating like an adult but talking about other things that they do. his mom is sort of a scary person about things & i think it has rubbed off on him. She wouldn't scare him intentionally at all. They just pick up & sense things sometimes that they don't need to & i think u need to be careful what u say in front of small children. That is a very good point, niece is why i found out about this on fb.

myLot reputation of 96/100. thea09 (5382)  3 years ago

I think they get scared when things aren't explained to them properly and they only get half an idea. I really didn't want my own fear of the dentist to rub off on my son and he didn't have a problem with it all the only time he needed something doing but he absolutely refused the injection I kept suggesting which suited his dentist just fine as she never uses them anyway. Parents have to be brave about things they have irrational or real fears about so we don't pass them on.

myLot reputation of 96/100. ANTIQUELADY (16514)   ranked 4 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

I agree 100%. U can pass your fears on to your children if u are not careful. They pick up on everything.

That is funny. Perhaps you could tell him that the tooth fairy has a magic wand that changes the tooth into the money so she has to enter his room but like santa she is so busy its almost impossible for her to be in his room for more than 10 seconds anyway.lol

Thank u, of course i think he is sweet.I just hate that he's worrying about the fairy coming into his room. Small children shouldn't have worries like that.

probably seen those stupid ads where the tooth fairy is some fat ugly man - or the "Hellboy" movie where the "tooth fairies" are monsters that eat people - I think you need to find a pretty little fairy picture and tell him that's what the tooth fairy really looks like, but that most people never get to see her because she's only visible the INSTANT she makes the switch and that she can only touch the tooth, the money appears magically - he does still believe in Santa right?

myLot reputation of 96/100. ANTIQUELADY (16514)   ranked 4 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

U are probably right. T hey treat him too much like an adult in some ways but his mom babies him to.Yes, he still believes in santa & that's another blow for them when they find out there is not one. He can be too sensitive for his age but a tough little boy to. I just don't want to see him hurt over anything altho i know he will be.

Poor little kid. Tell him not to worry. I have told this fairy not to come into his room and scare him. And tell him that fairies are very friendly and do not harm us at all. Provided he is a good boy and does not eat too many sweets!!!

Jo....I would have to say; "it makes me sad to think the "little man" would have fear of the tooth fairy!" I am wondering where his fear has come from...is it TV? And it also surprises me that children today are so indoctrinated into the "cyber" world, and would even think of e-mailing! But, of course, he is a brilliant little man! I sure hope that you can alleviate his fears, as there are so many more things in this world to be fearful of, than the tooth fairy! Rainbows, dear girl...thanks for sharing! Luv ya!

myLot reputation of 96/100. ANTIQUELADY (16514)   ranked 4 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

I feel the same way , shirley. OF COURSE we'd like to keep all fears away from them but we know we can't. I think the older kids at his daycare tell him a bunch of crap because he has told me things they have said to him before. His dad trys to make him tough & he is in alot of ways but his mom babies him. sHE IS ARAID OF STORMS SO NATURALLY HE IS TO. My kids looked forwadd to the tooth fairy & i'm sorry he is afraid. I'm sure some of the fear comes from the tv. It just worries me that he has this fear. thanks for responding, love u to.

I think this would be the time to talk to him to see why he fears fairies. Than explain what the tooth fairy will be there for. He may have seen a scary movie that makes him afriadof the tooth fairy or other kids could have been picking on himthat has him scared. Good luck, I do hope this gets sorted out soon and you are able to get down to the root of the problem.

Oh how sad that he is scared. Is it the actual tooth fairy he is afraid of or the fact that someone will come into his room? It may be an idea to ask him what's made him think that it is 'bad', maybe he has seen some programe on the TV or been told something scary by one of his friends and that is worrying him. There's no reason why he should have to believe in th etooth fairy, it would be better to tell him that than have him afraid.

myLot reputation of 96/100. ANTIQUELADY (16514)   ranked 4 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

Thanks for your response, Sunny. i think he should be told the truth to. I don't know why it has even been grought up to him & he hasn't even lost a tooth. Older kids, tv whatever is not good sometimes.

That is soooo cute.

I'd tell him that the tooth fairy just knows when he'll lose his teeth. It's one of her magic abilities and her well kept secrets. I'd say, just put the tooth at his bed side and in the morning, he'll have some money next to him.

myLot reputation of 96/100. ANTIQUELADY (16514)   ranked 4 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

I think it is cute too,but he's been scared somehow by somebody that the tooth fairy is bad.
Try to console him and tell him the tooth fairy is like Santa Clause and he or she is good and not bad like we see monsters on TV.
He'll be fine, just needs some extra support.

myLot reputation of 96/100. ANTIQUELADY (16514)   ranked 4 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

He had been frightened of alot of things. i blame his mom & big kids at his day care. He takes everything to heart. he's a sweetheart.

myLot reputation of 95/100. quita88 (1605)   ranked 198 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

Why would his mom want to scare him about the tooth fairy?
I can see bigger kids scaring him, but mom?
I know he's a sweetheart, but part of being a kid is the tooth fairy. Like santa clause.
Guess it's up to you to fix what others have made bad for this boy.
You go girl !

myLot reputation of 96/100. ANTIQUELADY (16514)   ranked 4 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

i'm not saying his mom scared him of the fairy but know he has had fears of things before. i don't think his mom would scare him intentionally over anything but i do think they need to treat him more as a child instead of an adult like they do.

myLot reputation of 95/100. quita88 (1605)   ranked 198 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

I understand that. Seems even my step granddaughters have been treated like adults for many years.
My grandsons have too in a lot of ways. They were only allowed to believe in Santa but not very long.
I think parents get busy and expect their kids to act more grown up then they are.
I hope Ryan comes out of this and he starts looking for the tooth fairy.
I know when I was home my youngest, now 6 pulled or daddy pulled his first tooth and he could hardly wait for the tooth fairy:)
He wanted $20 tho ??? my son laughed and said, be proud of the dollar the fairy left you LOL
So, hang in there and when you have time alone with Ryan help him understand.

myLot reputation of 96/100. ANTIQUELADY (16514)   ranked 4 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

Thank Quita, I do want to talk to ryan. We have some pretty deep discussions sometimes anyway, lol. boy, the price has gone up according to your grandson, lol.

myLot reputation of 95/100. quita88 (1605)   ranked 198 out of 5,024 in family  3 years ago

I know you and Ryan are on your own wave length !
My grandson is spoiled ! The tooth fairy brought Mike a quarter at the most depending on what I had at the time.
I hope they didn't give him what he thought he deserved for pulling a tooth.
Besides, Mike pulled it !!
