This sounds like a very interesting hobby to me, but i dont have a car so it would be very time consuming and stressfull to take two small kids around.. but when they are older and we have a car, i'm thinking it will be a very fun family hobby..
For those who dont know what it is, its sort of like a world wide treasure hunt. People hide a canister someplace, where ever they want, they record the gps co-ordinates and mark it on the webpage.. then when its approved other people can look for it. From my understanding, there is always a paper in the canister for marking the date and names when you find it. . There can be other things inside of it as well, but if you take something you have to leave something of equal value.
Then you go to the website when you've found one and record it in the log.. And other people can see when it was found last, and how many you've found if they like i presume! I am not sure why it took me so long to hear about it, but its been going on for many years now.. and apparently gainging popularity!
Does this sound like something you would be interested in ?
If you do Geocach, How many have you found so far ?

I think I have heard of something like this before, but I can't really be sure to tell you the truth. It does sound like it would be interesting but I wouldn't want to go very far, It'd have to be somewhere around us?

I did just that yesterday and there are a few. None are too far, but I don't too close either... lol. It's an interesting thing to do though, and something I've told my MIL about. Maybe when we go on vacation I'll look the site up again, and we'll try to find one of them.
Can it be taken to another state? (so could we take it back home?)... Oh and you have ot have a GPS?

People have been doing this for years, even during the early 20th century. They used to hide things and leave clues, it was very popular in the 20's and 30's.
When I was married my husband took us geocaching with his GPS and it was fun. He lost interest shortly after that, though. It was in the summer and summer in Arizona is no time to do anything outdoors!

Hi ya Sis
No I have never heard of this at all. It sounds great and a lot of fun though a bit like a treasure hunt. I think people here would mess about with it and saboutage it, steal the stuff and put something nasty inside it. It's a shame you don't have a car!!

I have found 500 in about a year. Many of them are urban caches. I have been accompanied at times with my grandchildren.
