Do you write to impress or to express?

Way back then during my school days, most of my classmates would write an article to simply impress and gain interest from students and professors. They do a lot of research and make sure that grammar was impeccable. Well there's nothing wrong with it I think. As for me I write anything just to express what I feel. And it was fun

I generally write to express myself and how i am feeling at a moment. Sometimes a story that I write will have some aspect of myself within it. Everything I write basically has some aspect of my expression in it whether it is an article or a short story.

It's good to write a story, poems or anything to express our self, it's an art of expressing our inner thought and feelings. That's why their are few writers who don't succeed in their chosen career because they write to impress not to express.
Anyways thanks for sharing with us and enjoy your day!

Hi careguarden,
Away from the world of school where I wrote for the grades, I mostly write to express myself. About the only time I am able to see a writing project though is when it involves me in another world, and living that life for a while. That is something completely about expression. A few times I have also written things for other people and that can be a combination of both. I want them to appreciate my skills, but at the same time I want to use the writing to express how much they mean to me so that when they look back they can remember who I am and what the meant to me.
But definitely expression is most important for me since I am usually the only one to read what I write (save for being on-line) so I don't really need to worry about impressing anyone, I am impressed enough anyway lol
All the best,

Hello Dranz,
Yeah, I agree with you. When you write for a living then you should be careful in giving a good impression to the readers as well as to your self. For me in writing the one that I'm concern to be impress is myself. If I've given my best and thoroughly able to express myself well. And when after reading my work I found it good and truly impressed me then that's enough. My work is my soul and I don't care If others would like it or not.

Most times I write to express. Sometimes, however, I write to impress. Often these impression based writings, are more about my correct use of grammar or knowledge of vocabulary than the actual topic assigned. My expressive writings tend to be more about the subject matter.

Here at mylot, I express myself rather than write to impress others.I express my feelings and views,my thinking about different topics and discussions.
to deal with your truthness is nomething great to admire and same happens here.

That's what I enjoy here in mylot. Like you I write to simply express my opinions and points of views based on my life experiences. It's a great to express our feelings to certain issues, discussions and topics that we found it interesting. And it's more beautiful when we found others who shared the same thoughts and experiences with us.
Anyways thanks for sharing with us and have a great day!

For school, I would definitely say I write to impress. I write to get a good grade; not necessarily to express my own feelings or opinions. But of course on MyLot or in a diary or something.. I am obviously trying to express my own feelings and whatnot. I think it really depends on what the occasion is and what exactly you're writing.
