parting hair = looks like butt head?

I was just remembering a funny story.
I have my hair usually parted if not up the middle, then to the side a little bit. Been that way as long as I remember. My cousin had a devil of a time trying to get my hair to do anything else when she was messing with it.
So my husband tells me that his sister wanted to wear her hair parted when she was in High School and their mom wouldn't let her. Looked like a butthead or some such thing.
Prejudice against parted hair because you will look like a butthead? I laughed pretty hard about that one.
But seriously, do you have a problem with parting your hair? Do you know anybody who does? What's the deal with that?

Mine goes where it wants for the most part, I'm not prejudice against any type of part! I have a funny story though. When we were in middle school we would always swap school pictures of each other and one day my dad was looking through the pictures of my friends. He came across one and just started laughing. We asked him what was so funny and he just said "this kid looks like s p*nis!" I took a closer look at the picture and it hit me, this guy's hair really did make him look like a p*nis. It was a mushroom cut with a severe part right down the centre. So I guess in the grand scheme of things it's better to look like a butt head than a d*ck head!

I did hair for 47 years & really not many of my customers wore a part. they wore it pulled to one side or the other. I notice alot more people on tv w/a part & there sure is nothing wrong w/a part in your hair. People can get some silly ideas, can't they?

Parting hair and with dork glasses on. Priceless look! LOL...I wouldn't say butt head, but more like a nerd; a decent nerd. The look is downright funny with some people, but so do back-combs, which I find them to have that Mafia look. I don't have a problem with people with parted hair. I think they can look cool too, ha..

i tend not to since i noticed the area where it was parted started to get thinner.. lighter.. so i tend to pull it back or one side or the other. As for butthead or any such thing no that was not an issue lol..
But dang.. that is creative i never thought of it as a butthead sorta thing.. lol.. hehe.. ((grins evilly)) now i know how to torment a certain cousin of mine

I wonder what the MIL's objection was. I guess she either didn't think it looked good on her daughter or there was some kind of standard among her friends for females not to have parted hair.

MIL prob had a set of what a proper lady looked like (she probably had a picture of herself pinned up somewhere) and wanted her daughter to be as she envisioned..
Still cant get over the comparison of comparing parted hair to that part of the anatomy...will never look at parted hair the same way ever again

She probably did.
And it's quite a visual, isn't it?

My hair parts naturally, but I always put it in a side part. A center part DOES make your head look like a butt, and it also makes your hair look flat...something that NO girl wants. Hahah, I remember I once got a lecture from my hairdresser about side parting it because my hair looked FLAT hahahah!

I have my hair cut short and seldom part it anymore. It is just curly and does whatever it wants to do. When I wore it long my mom did not like the center part. It was the era of the hippies and she did not like the look. I have cowlicks or whatever else they are called. That messes with smooth parts a lot.

Curly and parted probably don't go together too well...

I haven't changed my hair style much in my adult life. I've never had a definite part, but it is less definite now than it ever was.
The only changes in my hair have been colour and volume. I used to have a very full head of bright, flaming autumn hair and now it has much less volume and is quite "faded" in colour.
As far as I'm concerned a part is a matter of personal taste, and of what suits a person. I certainly wouldn't categorise people by whether or not they have their hair parted. Thinking about it, I guess most men have a part, don't they?

Most men do or did. I see a lot of men with it kind of spiked up a little nowadays, no part...
I haven't changed my hair much either. It's either long and straight or shoulder length and straight. Sometimes it's layered a bit and the part moves around. That's about as exciting as it gets...

usually if i'm just going to be at home (which is the norm) I dont care what my hair looks like lol. i let it dry where ever it wants to go when i get out of the tub or shower.. If i have somewhere to go then i usually part it at the natural part, sort of to my left a little more then center. or if i've done the let it dry thing the night before and its crazy @ssed, i put it up in a elastic.

hi dawnald yep if I parted my hair down the middle I would look'like a
dork or butt head for sure. I have tried it and I just look'
purely awful. I wear side bangs and am parted on the side
too. I did try to part it down the middle and it looked just
dippy and silly. so back to the w ay my hair wants to go.

I don't have any problems, no, but I don't like it parted. Normally I pull it back in a pony tail. If I leave it down I will part it off to the side, but then I spend all day tucking it behind my ears or running my fingers through it until the part is non existant anymore. Keeping it back off my face and shoulders is most comfortable for me.

Yes hair seems to grow as trained after a while and changing a style takes time and
patience. It's just like training a plant. Visualize all these vines growing out of your head onto a trellis. Now you should really be able to get a laugh out of that one.
