Why has Maury been so successful?

OK. I have a lot of spare time on my hands between the hours of 9 am - 12 pm during the weekdays, and I'm finally fed up with watching judge shows. So now I watch Maury. Just out of curiousity, do you like this show? There used to be SO many of these kinds of "talk shows" on TV (a la Jerry Springer) - but now the only one I know of that's still running and popular is the Maury Povich show. I'm wondering - why the heck is this one still doing so well? Do people actually like this show? (Not trying to sound snobby; I don't mind it - but I'm not in love with it.) What's different about Maury that has caused it to succeed (how long has it been airing for, 10 years+?), while others get canceled? Do you like this show, or do you find it to be incredibly trashy?

I have no idea why Maury or even worse Jerry Springer is still on. It amazing me that such garbage is still on. They get rid of good shows and keep the garbage on. I do remember Jenny Jones I use to like her show alot. I wonder what she is doing these days. I'm guessing people like to see garbage on TV and see other peoples misery played out for all to see.

I know what you mean! It's amazing that the shows with actual substance go off air. And I'm stuck watching Maury when not at school. . I just know my IQ drops about 10 points every time I watch another episode.

I have always wondered how is show is still on the air. I used to watch it from time to time when I was younger and he offered a wide variety of topics but these days it always seems to be the same thing just with different people. I hate the ones where they have tested twenty different men trying to find the father of one girls baby and he does shows on that all the time. It seems three times a week he will have a show on paternity tests!! He also does a lot of shows on lie detector test results and cheating spouses!! There is no way I would ever agree to go on that show cause I would know that my heart was about to be broken in some kind of way!!! Every once in awhile though he will have a show about something good and he does do quite a few shows on helping people out that are having a hard time. I would go back to watching his show if they would start doing more of the shows about helping people but I guess that topic just doesn't draw as many people in!!

I can't understand why people would tell their spouse on national television that they're cheating on them. Talk about ultimate betrayal AND ultimate embarrassment. I would imagine that the spouses' kept in the dark have to be expecting it, though (but that makes you wonder: why some people seem so shocked on the show when they 'find out'). Maybe it IS all set up.

I don't really like them be honest. Back 9 years ago, I tried to watch couple of them, and I kind of skeptical if the problem is real or just made up. You know some people do anything just for the sake to be on TV.

Definitely! Some of the stories are almost too ridiculous to be true!

I don't know. I didn't even know he was still on TV to tell you the truth. I guess that he is a TV personality that knows what he's doing. I guess he knows how to "work it" I never thought his show was all that great anyway, the once or twice that I saw his show. He is kind of smarmy in my opinion.

Smarmy is a good way to put him (AND HIS SHOW!), yes!
