My two year old has gone to town on redocorating the walls of the house with crayon scribbles everywhere! I have spent a lot of time with a bucket of water with Pine-Sol and ammonia scrubbing away to clean, but it is so timely. Any quick remedies to getting my walls back to normal that don't take 10 years?

My suggestion is to just cover all of your walls in white paper. Then the kid can decorat all s/he wants, and there will be no problems. When the papers get too full of childish decorations, just put up new ones! LOL I'd probably do that if I had a kid, because I am nott the tidiest person in the world, and for me that would be a dream come true, and it would save the walls. haha

That would be a good idea, except I don't want to encourage drawing on anything except loose paper. LOL This is quite a problem here and I hate all the tedious scrubbing it takes to clean up. (Sigh) Oh well.

they have this chalkboard paint. you can buy it at home depot or lowes. and it turns whatever wall you paint into a chalkboard! i think it's a great idea and a great way to encourage your child to "think outside of the box" and save your walls!

myLot reputation of 97/100. princess07031980 (1850)   ranked 52 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

Wow, that is quite an interesting product that I have never heard of! At this point though, I don't want to encourage my 2 year old to color on the walls at all, until he knows when or where it's appropriate, if we were to try to the chalkboard paint idea. Only because he may still go after "unchalk-boarded" walls or attempt to color on the walls of other's home and that wouldn't be good either. I have so much trouble staying on top of to keep my stupid walls clean around here LOL.

I used the Mr Clean Magic Eraser on my walls. It got all the crayola and washable marker off the walls. It didn't remove my daughter's masterpiece done in red permanent marker but it did lighten it a little.....I hope this helps......The joys of parenthood......:)

My friend had brought that over to help clean up a little bit a while back, and it did seem to clean it up. The only problem is it took the gloss finish off the paint on the walls, and now it is streaked with dull spots. Yet, it still may be the only option to get it off and I will have to repaint when the coloring on the wall phase is over. Bummer!

I use hair spray... You wouldn't believe what hairspray can do..

myLot reputation of 97/100. princess07031980 (1850)   ranked 52 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

Really-I had not heard of that! I will have to try it out. So do you spray and wipe, or do you pretreat it with hairspray and clean it later?

myLot reputation of 90/100. blueeyedmommy03 (201)   ranked 13,318 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

Just spray and wipe... It works wonders on sharpie marks on the wall... lol

myLot reputation of 97/100. princess07031980 (1850)   ranked 52 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

Well, that sounds easy enough, I will defintiely have to do that. One more question-is hairspray just hairspray or does it matter if it's spritz or does it have to be aerosol?

myLot reputation of 90/100. blueeyedmommy03 (201)   ranked 13,318 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

not really sure.. lol I use the aerosol.

hi blueeyed mommy would hairspray take a nasty ink spot
out of my blouse, I tried the other spot sprays and they
didnt work.

myLot reputation of 97/100. princess07031980 (1850)   ranked 52 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

I have heard that hairspray in fact does help remove ink stains from clothes. I have never tested that theory, but I have heard it.

myLot reputation of 97/100. princess07031980 (1850)   ranked 52 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

It worked! Although I still have a lot of work left to do.....it removes the crayon with little effort! However, it didn't take off the ink scribbles.:( Do you have any other remedies for that??

myLot reputation of 90/100. blueeyedmommy03 (201)   ranked 13,318 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

You can try toothpaste.. Put it on and leave it for 10 minutes then wipe clean. Or baking soda. lol I have tried so many things and they all seem to work differently. Us moms have to think on our toes thats for sure. happy

myLot reputation of 97/100. princess07031980 (1850)   ranked 52 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

I will try that. Another member had suggested toothpaste for the crayon removal, and it indeed did work. But I was unsuccessful in removing the ink pen markings on the walls. But I did not pretreat it, so I will try it out and see. Thanks again for all your help!!

myLot reputation of 95/100. sid556 (10737)   ranked 624 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

I'm not sure but I've always kept a can of really cheap aerosal hair spray on hand that you can buy at the dollar store. Hatley...it will get ink out of clothes but you have to be careful not to let it run...blot it and repeat until it is out.

Use Mr Clean Magic Eraser, it works awesome. Keep the crayons away from the little one and work at teaching them how to properly use them. People say to get erasable paper up on your walls but next thing you know the child is 10 and still thinks its ok to write on the walls. The time is now to teach them not to do it. Good luck

princess get a Mr.clean eraser and it will take the crayon
marks right off the walls so I am told. It sure would be
a help if it works. You need a black board and some colored'
chalk and your two year old would have a ball.

I wish I saw your discussion earlier. This is an easy fix. Go to the dollar and get a tube of really cheap toothpaste. Toothpaste with a little water and almost no elbow grease removes crayon so so easy. If you still have crayon...just get out the toothpaste. I would never spend money on this problem and neither should you.

myLot reputation of 97/100. princess07031980 (1850)   ranked 52 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

Hmmmmm...that sounds easy enough and I have a medicine cabinet full of toothpaste. Ok one silly question what kind of toothpaste-or does it matter? The gel kind, the pasty kind? This is a new one, as I have never heard of it before. I have seen quick-fixes using hairspray and tons for the Magic Eraser (although the magic eraser takes the gloss off my walls). Anything to try-I am sick of cleaning his messes!

myLot reputation of 95/100. sid556 (10737)   ranked 624 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

oops...not a silly question. I find that the paste kind works best but I imagine both would work. happy

myLot reputation of 97/100. princess07031980 (1850)   ranked 52 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

Well, when learning about new techniques, you cannot ask enough questions to ensure you do it right the first time, right? Thanks so much for your help. I will be trying this theory soon!

myLot reputation of 97/100. princess07031980 (1850)   ranked 52 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

I did try the toothpaste, and it does in fact work quite well! (And leaves a nice minty aroma!! LOL) I have another problem though-my son has scribbled the walls in pen as well, and I have yet to see that come off. Do you have any other suggestions??

myLot reputation of 95/100. sid556 (10737)   ranked 624 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

sure do. Cheap hair spray. spray it on & you will see the ink break up. blot it off with a paper towel and repeat until its gone. Then hide the pens. lol

myLot reputation of 97/100. princess07031980 (1850)   ranked 52 out of 14,939 in parenting  3 months ago

OK, I will have to try that then. I had tried the hairspray at first just spraying and wiping, but had no luck getting it off. Yes-hide the pens.....good call, sid....LOL
