Going out for a walk

I have two dogs, one is a shepherd/husky mix that's a little over two years old and the other is a little Australian shepherd that's almost two years old, I can't take them out at the same time, they get tangled up in each others leashes. Seems no matter what I do, they always have excessive energy all day long. Any ideas on how long I should walk them so they aren't so hyper when they come in? The kids play with the dogs and they can even wear the kids out!!

I hate to break the bad news to you , your dogs need obediance training badly. When u walk your dog under normal conditions your dog is on your left side, when you stop your dog sits with it's shoulder at your leg. When both your dogs r obediance trained they will walk side by side on your left. At this time u will need yourself and a companion to walk your dogs. I HAD 2 rOTTIS, now have 2 bouviers and they r really active, walk with no problems. Have a great day...
REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV/ CARE FOR YOUR DOG/ PET, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U.

I was working with them a lot, they were walking on the left side of me, no problem. Left, Right, Heel, Stop, Sit, Stay, Come, they were doing really well. There are 3 others here that help take care of them and they think putting them on a leash is either a pain or they think it's mean. They don't want to work with them, they think the dogs are going to magically grow into being the dogs they want them to be. Maybe it's them that need the obedience training
it's just frustrating sometimes.

Have them go to a dog show or training class. It might help, not the dogs of coarse.

Awww. We just had to put our dog to sleep. He was a Pomeranian. We just got us a new puppy the other day though. He is a Yorkie. He is so full of energy but it only lasts for about 10 minutes LOL. He sleeps alot of the time since he is so little. I am sure he will be full of energy too when he gets older. He does get tired when we play with him alot so I am not sure why the doggies are staying hyper. I think they are just playful and happy.

Sorry about having to put your pomeranian to sleep, I bet you miss him even though you have your new little puppy! So did you forget how hard it is to train a new puppy yet? I think we tend to forget all the work that's involved not long after most of the training is done. I found between getting the two of them, I forgot little bits and pieces of things I did before.
I hope your puppy has a long and happy life with you!!

Hi MZZ663
Sounds like you need some advice from the DOG WHISPERER
He comes on the Dicovery Channel or Animal Planet I forget which I believe his name is Ceasar I have seen the show a few times and he seems to work wonders with dogs .
I had a shepard husky mix her name was Jade and boy was she feisty!
She would be off to the races especially if she saw a squirrel or cat .
I have to tell you I didn't walk her she walked ME!
I couldn't even take her to the park once I did and she got out of her leash I don't know how that happend probably not tight enough around her neck but I was walking around the park and she was behind me in what I thought was her collar
All of a sudden it seemed that the weight got lighter like a was pulling nothing I looked behind and there is the empty leash draggin on the ground
Next thing I know I see her making a mad dash for the water (our park is called Lake Waterford Park) needless to say I am like Jade get back here......like that does any good finally after about 15 minutes of me following her and trying to get her to come back a bigger dog who was also unleashed came up and barked at her and she ran right back to me and I put the leash on her
This is a true story thats exactly how it happend I wish I had a video camera I would have sent it to Americas Funnies Videos or whatever animal video shows they have on these days.
But in retrospect its wasn't her fault I should have taken her to obedience school she was pretty high strung. Now I just have a cat and its so much easier!

haha...sounds like mine, the shepherd husky mix had slipped his collar numerous times! At first I thought that the kids taking him out had something to do with it, then he did it to me and he did it more than once! I went and got a holster for him and he got out of it, too! I was always told to leave a finger width of two fingers under the collar and I guess that ws the problem, he has a lot of skin. I got a leather collar and made it a little tighter than the nylon collars that I had used on him (he started pulling so that the plastic ends would pull apart.) You're right, must be the mix....he does get fiesty and playful, always full of energy....and cats seem to be easier to take care of than dogs, but I think I'm stuck with this one for a long time to come....
