Penny Candy |
|
Do you remember penny candy? My husband and I were having a conversation about it last night. I don't even think it exists anymore!
I remember as a child going to this little news stand that we had in town and getting a bag full of penny candy. It would be so cheap because everything cost a penny! My favorite was always the different flavored tootsie rolls.
It's so sad the things the kids miss out on in this new generation..... now a days they go to the store and demand a toy. When I was a child I would have been perfectly happy with 5 cents worth of candy.:-)

When I take my kids to the local shop to buy milk or something, they pick out the sweets they want and put them in the little paper bags. I like doing this with them because its teaching them the value of money, I give them each a coin and explain to them what they can afford, and often they spend half and save the other half for another day, they like to have change in their pockets

Jennlk84 (2252) | 3 months ago | Gosh and when did that happen? Seriously......that's a good question...I'm curious as to when the economy changed so much that "mom's" had to go to work.
Ahh yes...I love Twinkies...hehe

lelin1123 (4110) | 3 months ago | My mom went to work in the late seventy early eighty. That was the start of I believe more dyfunctional families beginning. Where the parents were not home when the kids got home from school and the kids were left on their own. Mothers going back to work is the main reason I believe that the world has changed for the worse.

5. irishidid (3026) | 3 months ago | I remember when they let you bring a piece bubble gum for everyone in your class if it was your birthday. For a quarter, you'd have enough for the whole class and sometimes even the teacher.

6. maezee (4139) | 3 months ago | Well, there's inflation for you! lol. The only candy that I remember being 1 cent when I was growing up in the 90's was those teeny gumballs that you could get from the machine at places like Hallmark and the mall. That's about it, though. I think everything else costed a quarter or more! But in comparison to how things are these days, that's nothing.

9. dramaqn (796) | 3 months ago | MMMM!! You sure hit a "sweet" spot. Yes, I remember the good ole' days of penny candy. My favorite was the red dollars. Yes, kids are ungrateful today. Funny that you should bring up this subject, I was just thinking about it a few days ago when I was walking down the candy aisle at the dollar store.
