How come our Mother's food always tasted so good? |
|
Hello friend , I'm really kind of pissed right now, the reason why is because Something just came to me like a scent and it took me back to my mom's cooking for only a second. Then I started thinking, how come my food never taste like my mother's? I even asked her about it once and she told me, it's not supposed to. As everyone have their own touch. I hope that my children will think that my food was the best they ever tasted the same way that I think about my mothers. But I seriously doubt if they will believe that. As I try to keep things as healthy as possible. Not to say that my mom wasn't doing that but back in those days. She could cook up cakes and pies and we never did even worry about calories and not very many of us were overweight. Well what are you thoughts on this subject mylotters, did your moms cook good food too? Tell me about it ,,,,,,,,,,,,,Happy mylot.

Months ago I did several threads on this very subject! It's comfort foods, that's why we recall the taste of our mother's home cooking, and why it brings happy feelings to us when we cook this way.
Did you ever see the movie Soul Food? Well, that's how I was raised! And even my children are being raised this way. We have one large family meal together every week because our week days can become so busy with my husband's work and my schooling, and his schooling. And there are foods that are requested because they make us all feel better about all things.
For me growing up it was my grandma who did most of this type of cooking and I recall fondly things such as steak rolls, olive salad, and well her famous rasberry torte!!! YUMMY! My mother's favorite and best recipe was her spaghetti. Oh my heavens did she know how to make it just right! And when I was in highschool her and I used to make homemade taco salads in large tupperware dishes!!!

silverglint (1479) | 3 months ago | I envy you guys, when I was growing up, my mother was always at our store working. We have a helper at home and she is the one who cooks the food. I think the difference is mostly because mother's cook the food with love. That is why it is always the best, because no one else can add a mother's love into the food. It's sad that I never got to experience that. Now I am already a mom, I don't get to cook either. I have to work to provide for my family. Good thing my boys have their grandma to cook for them.

4. princess07031980 (1850) | 3 months ago | LOL Don't get mad at the situation. Cooking is an art, and the more you practice, the better at it you will be. See, by the time you came along, your mother had all ready gone through the burning food phase, adding too much salt phase, over cooking the meat phase, and forgetting to grease the pan phase. Meaning, by the time you came along, she was conditioned, and all you had to eat was the best of what she could offer. Your kids will love your cooking the way you loved your mom's. Why? Because it mom's!

6. babymimi05 (662) | 3 months ago | Hi there!
Unfortunately I dunno how my mother's food tastes cuz she never cooks. She's very lazy when it comes to cooking. The one who's always cooking dinner and lunch is my Dad. I'm tired of eating the things he cooked cuz he's not good as cooking. My Grandma once told me that my Mum is a great cook. She says that while she was still young she enjoyed cooking for her and her sisters and she says that whatever she cooked was very delicious. She can even bake cakes, pies and other things. She can eve make yogurt and ice cream.
Anyways, maybe one she'll do it again and then I'll know the feelings that you've expressed.
Happy mylotting as well.

My mother is Dominican which means her signature plate is rice and beans with beef on the side. I had this almost everyday for most of my childhood and I gotta tell you it never got old. There was so much flavor and body. My mouth still waters in anticipation. My favorite was flan though. If you don't know what it is look it up and then ask me for the receipe. Trust me you wont regret it. My dad on the other hand having been raised here in US had a penchant for steaks and anything that could be grilled. Some of my fondest memories are of smoked filled evenings out in the yard trying to keep the bugs off as my cousins and I eagerly awaited the burgers and hot dogs my daddy would be cooking up. I def. picked up the love of not only food but cooking as well from my family. By the time I was 6 I would be on the counter helping my mom with dinner. She still has all my misspelled picture receipes: 0 ). I don't think I would ever consider myself as good a cook as my mother but then again I don't think you are suppose to be. Mom's are just special that way.

8. ivygrey (196) | 3 months ago | I always thought that we were raised by our mothers with their own way of cooking, and when your home you feel good, you feel safe and cared and most important is that the food taste great, well, that's just my opinion, because my mom is a great cook and my grandma too. We are used to the taste of their cooking so when we tried others cooking, we feel like it taste different. Not bad but taste different, and we always prefer the ones that we grew up eating.

9. hexeduser22 (678) | 3 months ago | I think why most of us think that our mom's cooking is the best because we grew on it. Our mom's cooking was the first basis of taste when we were growing up. We grew comfortable in regards to how she prepares our food.:)
