I am getting so sick of drunken sports people being called heroes... over the few months we have had nothing but reports of fights, rape amnd drunken reports of some of out football players, I wish the news readers would stop calling them heroes, the word hero should be reserved for the people who are real heroes, given theit lives for others and those who have put their lives at risk for others, it is an insult to call these drunken footballers who are setting a bad example to the youth of this country, they are not heroes, sports legends m,aybe but far from heroes.....

Hello my friend lilaclady Ji, Your observation is need of the hour and you are absolutely right in showing such annoyance. I wish to add some more after what you said and laid down conditions for a hero, who risk own life to save others. But even actors on the silver screen should not be called Heroes, only in real life should be given this honor and also sports commercialised one should be removed from sport list like cricket etc. May God bless You and have a great time.

Hi lila! I would have to agree with you about this! We have the same problem here in the US with our football players! They are treated like they are "Gods" and "Heroes" and they get into all sorts of trouble, have to go to jail and yet they are still Heroes! I don't get it and I certainly don't agree with it! And when they get out of jail they are "forgiven" and can go back to their multi-million dollar job and go back to playing football! It's not alright with me! And I just don't understand why it's alright with the Football Association!

I have to agree with you. Things are getting out of hand and it is all about money. The football players make so much money now a days.

Sounds like America. Seriously, though, I'm sick of celebrities being idolized. These are often the stupidest, laziest, most selfish people in the world. Children are being taught a sad lesson. You'll only get far in life if you can throw a football, be a cheerleader, sing, or dance. As someone who is pursuing a career in education it's very disheartening.

I agree. I never understood how athletes were considered heroes anyway. There not exactly brave because they kick a ball or run quickly. Most of them are violent drunkards so there not exactly noble either. You need to be noble and brave to be a hero and athletes share none of those characteristics. I seriously don't consider them godlike because they can play a sport. A godlike action has to be greater than that.

Hi lilaclady, I think the media is giving a heroic image to those people. At the same time they are keeping reporting on the bad habits of those people just for getting the attraction from people or increase the publicity. The sports persons are also responsible to keep the heroic images among public. They know that the media is following them.

Hi lilaclady, I agree with you, there is nothing heroic about kicking a ball and getting paied far too much money for their stupid antics, I am sick of it too, that is why I don't read anything about them, I don't read the papers, full stop. Tamara

Ya.I agree. Footballers should actually be more concern about how they behave.. Because they are seen as role-models and idols to younger fans. And the way they behave like fighting and drinking could influence younger fans to pick such habits too.
