Is man really born with a clean slate and only endowded with a tendency to be good or bad and he became either because of nature and nurture? or is there a downward pull of nature that pulls him to do undesireable things which is called bad stronger than the urge or force to do good?

hi manong05 I think humans are born as clean slates and inherently
good. Nature has nothing to do with it, how we are raised, how we are treated , what kind of examples our parents set, all these go into making us what we grow up to be, once we are adults though we must nurture ourselves to be good decent law abiding citizens
though as our parents have already hopefully done their jobs.

Thanks. Yes, there are children who were born in ghettos and in udesireable environment that turn out to be good adults and productive citizens. On the other hand, there are children who were born with silver spoons on the mouths who turned the other way around. Maybe, what we become is what and how we want it to be?

Man was created good but was tempted and became evil.
No matter where and with what genes man is born with, every child's selfishness, greed, and lies are inborn and not learned. Though many later are nurtured to be good, the sinful nature is never eradicated by cultivation or personality development but only subtly suppressed and disguised.

According to what I am lead to believe because of my religion, man are creatures who are good in nature. If your mom/dad's bad that doesn't make you bad too since you are a different person. The very first time you are brought to this world, you have not done any bad deeds. In other words, an innocent. What made man do what is not right is the factors that affects his/her life. It can be his/her surroundings, the family, the community, the school, or his/her friends. There are still many other things too that can affect his/her social, emotional and physical and mental way of looking things that leads to the decision upon a course of action he/she made...

I think nature has a way with it. While a person is not born with a clean slate, his genes, his natural faculties with which he is born does shape the way he is to become in future. On top of that, the way he is treated in his childhood and the circumstances he is put into in that period help shape him into what he is in his later life. Otherwise one person would not differ from the next. A serial killer would not have been born unless something in his inherent nature makes him that way. Such persons have been known to have come from diverse backgrounds which shows only the way one is brought up or immediate surroundings is not the only criterion in which a person becomes what he is.

This question is always popular.
In our ancient China, there are two sages, one called MengZi who prefer to the good, the other one called XunZi who prefer to the bad.
I think man is inheretly in no character. But you know no matter human beings or animal Maybe want to live by instinct, so they may do the best things good to themselves but harmful to others.
It all depends on the atmosphere you live and education you get, which can control yourself better.
