I was watching a show on Planet Green--a TV channel I'm obsessed with. The movie was called "The Last Beekeeper." According to this movie, bees are suffering from a disease called colony collapse disorder which has unknown origins. Essentially, bees are dying for reasons that no one knows. If it continues at this rate, there will be no bees in the U.S. 25 years from now.
If that happens, we'll have to import bees to pollinate our food. Don't we already have enough issues with oil importation. How many dictators are we going to have to get into bed with to make sure we can all keep eating? Just something to think about.

The domestic honey was imported to this country back in 1600s. We do have wild bees that do a lot of pallenating too. I have read that in spain they have found the cause of the colony collapse and a cure. The colony collapse would affect not just the United states but the whole world as the collapse was world wide. I wonder how old the Movie "the Last Bee Keeper is that you watched.

I heard the same thing, in a different movie. Haagen-Dazs has donations that go toward stopping the honey bee crisis, which you can read at:

It tells a little more about what is going on. For ethical (vegan) reasons, I don't eat ice cream, so I can't help donate by way of Haagen-dazs, but it is a good cause.
