I'm new to NCIS, just started watching in May when I was recovering from surgery. I'm mostly caught up but there was one season ending where Jenny died in a shootout and the new director split up the team. But now they're together again, so how did that happen?

There were several really good shows invloving the mole and the asian girl who was a lawyer and had had the affair with Ducky's assistant ended up being the real mole after someone else was thought to be it. I don't want to spoil too much for you by giving much else about it and I think even knowing that, you will still enjoy the shows concerned with it if they show them again.

O'k, she was being forced to be a mole because her neice, who she was raising like her own daughter, had been kidnapped. But, unfortunately for her she killed the other agent, Langer, who they were thinking might be the mole inorder to keep her cover. Gibbs was shown as being suspicious of her in several shows leading up to the one where they were closing in on who was behind it. They were able to rescue the neice but the bad guy had the asian girl as hostage on a bus with Gibbs chasing them and he shot at Gibbs and either grazed his head or Gibbs was hit by bullet fragments. Anyway it affected his vision and he was woozy but he could see well enough to see the asian girl nod at him to shoot anyway even though she was in front of the bad guy. So Gibbs shot them both with one shot with the bullet going through her and getting the bad guy. She lived long enough to indicate to Gibbs by her expression that she had wanted him to do it since she had no future anyway because she had killed the other agent.

It was part of a wider plan to catch a mole. A bit contrived but made sense in the end.

Thank you! I hope they rerun that so I can see it. Nice avatar, Hitchcock was truly a genius.

The breaking of the team is part of the plot series. Since that scenario is designed to be viewed on the finale episode, it served as a cliffhanger and created a suspense on what to happen in the next season. Eventually (I won't spoil the plot for you), the team comes together again. The breaking of the team was a tactic of Vance to pursue investigations or maybe personal reasons (since he made clear that he was a Mcgee type than a Gibbs or Tony type).
