Is it true that plain sugars or sweetened bakery products harmful for the dogs? It is presumed that feeding dogs with sugars would be detrimental to their life. The longevity is supposedly reduced.Any truth behind this contention? My dog loves a lot of biscuits(sugary) early in the morning. This has become a habit.Any imminent danger?

Most "People food" is not good for dogs. Certainly sugar and chocolate. Some because they can't digest them well and others because of the type of stuff it is. And it can make them fat.

i would say it's definetly not a good idea to do all the time.
dogs don't naturally eat refined sugars,so at the very least they might get digestive problems (farts).
maybe for a treat once in a blue moon, but i wouldn't give it to him every day.
that's like this cat i have-always begs for mayo.i've told my family not to give it to him all the time,it's not good for him.

Think of what is good for you--your dog needs the same thing. Sugar is bad. We get enough sugar in natural foods. Replace those biscuits with apple slices--not grapes, they are poison to dogs--or other fruit. Dogs love vegetables, feed him broccoli bits for a treat or green beans! My dogs prefer fruit and vegetables over dog biscuits, I've trained them that way.

hi I would think that too much sugar if it is not good for us'humans it would surely not be good for smaller animalss'like dogs and cats. just stands to reason as we are all animals and if sugar messes up our bodies and our health it will also do that'to our smaller friends. also remember do not ever give
your dog or cat chocolate as it contains something that is
deadly for a dog or cat. Chocolate is fine for us but not our
pets.

i AM NOT A VET OR AN EXPERT ON WHAT TO FEED YOUR DOG. mY DOG LOVES PEOPLE FOOD & I GIVE HER A LITTLE OF IT BUT NOT MUCH & NOT EVERY DAY. I think giving her the biscuits every day might not be too good for her.

I am really not sure, but i have my pet dog, she is small and well loved..She often gets things with suger in it because she begs to eat what i eat, so i always give her a few bites of sweet things, but never chocolate, because its a fact that chocolate is bad for dogs..Its really funny though because the dog that i had for years would eat any piece of chocolate he could find when i was not home...Once we had a whole bowl of nestles chocolate crunches , and when i returned home he had eaten everyone of them & all the papers he left all over the floor, but he was fine.....

I am not an animal expert but I would imagine that too much sugar is not good for pets just like it is not good for humans. My first concern would be the dog’s teeth. Having dental treatment for pets is rather expensive I believe. Having said that, I read somewhere that artificial sweeteners are worse and very dangerous for dogs and can prove to be fatal. I would give your vet a call about your dog’s eating habits and hear what he or she says.
