Back from the Oktoberfest - in September!

We've just had the most amazing trip to the Oktoberfest, the Munich Beer Festival. Most of it happens in September. Why? It's a mystery, but it's probably something to do with the change to the Gregorian Calendar about 200 years ago. Locals call it 'The Weisn,' because it's shorter and it avoids explanations. We knew what we were heading for and when the main event was happening, but have you ever headed off for something, only to find you were too early or too late, because you hadn't done your research?

Hi Sandra, you know I already know that you and the camper convoy arrived intact. Don't suppose you had any chance to check out the German men as per the survey results I posted last night, would have made Basil smile to know he was surrounded by the worst lovers in the world. In answer to your question I can think of nothing as I am always always punctual.

'And of course, it takes a lot of strength to lift those ....' Now I really thought you were going to say it took a lot of strength to lift something else seeing as they are such strong built lads

Ah, you clearly haven't read the survey yet Sandra, German men are the worst lovers in the world because they smell so bad because they don't showerI would imagine the beery breath is a bit off putting to. Say hi to Basil.

Hey welcome back! Guess you will have lots to tell us once you have unpacked! No that hasn't happened to me, as far as I can remember, yet. I usually end up going where I set off to go to and when I get there I find what I was expecting. (Uhm that sounds bad heeee heeee )

Hello, Diana. Even though seasoned friends told us what to expect, the reality was something different. Everyone's out to enjoy themselves, and it's a fantastic atmosphere. We had a brilliant time, and the best thing was, once we parked up at the campsite, I didn't have to drive for a week, so I took full advantage of the opportunities to taste the local brews.

Hello again. Camper was brilliant - 2500 miles and not a bit of trouble, and we got over 30 miles to the gallon. Perfect!

It's all over this coming weekend, richtig? I remember from fond Memory how it only struggled into October,so You'd have gotten a shock if you'd showed up later on in the Month! The Theresienwiese,(or Teresa's Meadow) Was land belonging to a Local Royal Lady IIRC who allowed the Event to take place there.. Did You get around all 6 of the Brewer's "Tents"? Some visitors don't manage to get out of One of them!

When I lived in Germany I went to the Oktoberfest a couple of times. But they happen in other places too and of course there's always Karnival to get you warmed up. I hope that you had a great time. Last Wednesday I nearly took the Boss to a meeting which isn't until this coming wednesday! Years ago I turned up at a friend's house one friday evening only to discover I was expected the following Friday! But I don't think that I've ever managed to miss any big occasion that way though.

We had a brilliant time - the parade was amazing, and on the camping ground they set up a marquee so we had our own mini Oktoberfest as well. Regarding your mistaken appointments, I suppose it's better to turn up a week early than a week late!

No, I have not had that happen to me. I always check things out to make sure I have the right date. I like to be very organized so I always check a few days before leaving to go someplace to make sure nothing has change and the event is still going on.
