After the Build Up of the Obama Family's Appearance before the IOC,

can Obama or the incompetent press find a way to downplay the disappointing outcome? The gesture was billed as "unprecendented" and "important", but now that the decision is made, will the failure be just as unprecendeted or important? Or will Obama's supporters shrug it off as insignificant? If it was insignificant, how can the millions of wasted dollars and huge carbon footprint be justified?

Actually, Judith, our media here in the US was REALLY hyping the fact that the Obamas were going to go to Copenhagen to pitch for bringing the Olympics to Chicago. When the Olympic committee nixed Chicago in the first round, the media deemed it "breaking news" and interrupted regular TV viewing to tell of the "shocking" news that the president's pitch failed. Ten million dollars of taxpayer money was wasted so the President could go and try to bring the Olympics to one of the most crime ridden cities in the country. That money could have been used on better things and the President's time could have been better spent doing his JOB here at home.

i think the whole olympic thing is always a waste of money anyway - and always hyped up. have to say - although i'm sure one of you will explain in great detail - how exactly is a country doing this kind of idiotic thing (which always seems to happen when the olympic thing comes up and i will lay money on this not being the first time your lot have wasted money) supposed to be what looks like another antiobama story. come on can't we have the antichrist or something instead? please?

Like I said JB, if this is no big deal, why was it important enough to drop $10 million on getting the Obama's there to stump for it? Please explain to me why they had to travel in separate aircraft (with full security and follow on entourage for each), two days apart? The incompetent press was geared up to make this front page, wall to wall coverage, praising Obama for the victory. So please don't shrug this off because Obama considered it a huge deal.

Ted, here it the problem with your movement. If the IOC (which is the most corrupt organization in the world, and it would be interesting to see how much money Rio gave the IOC memebers for this "bid") would have given the games to Chicago people would have said that it would cost to much, and Chicago is to corrupt to host the games. When we didn't get the games, you have people like you who are upset that he tried. It was estimated that the games would have created thousands of jobs, and would have helped the city of Chicago for decades to come. It isn't Obama, or Chicago that lost yesterday, it was the country, and for those who want to bash Obama for this, I am sure it makes you happy that the COUNTRY has failed, not just Obama.

The COUNTRY didn't fail at anything here. Obama sent Miss Michelle to wow and woo them with her charm and grace. When he sensed that wasn't working, he thought for sure that gracing them with his presence would seal the deal. Why do pompouses @sses such as yourself think that the country failed? Obama's failure isn't that the IOC chose another country for the Olympics, his failure is that he thought his name would somehow make a difference. Obama and the incompetent press were all set to make HIM the center of the success story, now he, the press and people who can't think beyond your worship of him are making fools of yourself trying to act like it didn't matter.

To tell you the truth, after seeing how much hosting the Olympics, and the aftermath cost Atlanta, I don't see why any city would touch it.

I'm so glad that the Obama's didn't get to have the Olymics in Chicago....He's so arragant about getting his own way it isn't even funny......He reminds me of a kid with a ball and says if you don't do what I want you to I'll take my toys and go home..... Just think of all the money that they wasted going over seas and still didn't get them in Chicago.....Right now the way he's trying to bankrupt the country will all his trillions of dollar spending makes you wonder what is really on his mind... Now that he has won the peace prize his head is so big he can't hardly get it through the door.....

Hmm, I don't think it was insignificant. From what I read and heard prior to the President attending, the Olympics was in the bag. I think for some people it's significant, and others not. I personally did not think Chicago was going to be awarded the Olympics. Rio was by far the better choice.

So Rio got the Olympics. Hooray, they probably deserve it. Anyway, the US had had them in 2002, 1996, 1984, 1980, 1960, 1932 (summer and winter), 1904. We've had them 8 times, which is 3 more times than anybody else. Surely somebody in this country suspected that somebody else had a chance. Obama isn't the only president who has lost an Olympic bid, but I would be interested in seeing what everybody else spent in comparison.
