Would you select a second major? |
|
Well, maybe majority of us already went through college, or some of us are still in college in struggle of finish a degree or so. Not long ago, economic recession hit the U.S. market, and most of the just - graduated students couldn't find a job instantly according to what they studied in school. So, if what you studied before doesn't quite work out for you, would you re - consider pick a second major again, spend more time in school on studying for now? Just add one more skill to your resume, it not gonna hurt you.

I was in college 10 years ago and I started as a double major student and then changed to a single major. However, when I was in my third year of college, I decided that I would stay in school for an extra year to get a degree in a technical type of job. I was going to get my bachelor's degree in biology and then stay on an extra year to get my bachelor's degree in nursing. The reason that I was going to go about it this way was because though I wanted to go to medical school, it is a long shot and the nursing degree would have given me an opportunity to get directly out into the work field.

clorissa123 (3514) | 2 months ago | someone had advised me to go back to school again, to seeking a skill for a better future. I would definitely consider this option, since the economy not picking up the recovery step quickly enough. I would also consider self -educate myself, to get a certificate or something similar. Whatever option available out there, getting yourself a second choice always a wise choice.

| 2. prinny (23) | 2 months ago | I have already planned on double majoring in college. I plan to try and aim for a biology and business major. Double majors are certainly not easy but definitely helps you when apply for a career. It is very competitive today and having something extra, special or unique to make you stand out from others is great. Still if double majoring is too hard there is always the option of taking one major and a minor. It wouldn't hurt anyone in these times to push a little extra and work hard now and have fun later.

clorissa123 (3514) | 2 months ago | Would a double major cost more time to complete both majors? What if mean is original calculation for a single major would be 4 years, with double majors, maybe 5 to 6 years of the schedule time? I would like to go back to school to finish one more major too, but I was just lazy.

It is especially a good idea to pick up a second major if you can find one that lines up fairly well with your first major, since you won't have to finish that much more schooling. For example, I'm working toward a double-major in Marketing Management and Finance, since they share a lot of requirements. This may be harder to do if you want to change careers, but picking a second major in at least the same general area is definitely worth it.

Especially during the time of economic recess, we especially need that knowledge, and we need all sort of channel to increase ourselves in personal value.

| 4. lilyliu (29) | 2 months ago | Yeap,It's absolutely benfit when you add anther skills to your resume. But sometimes you don't have the condition-the money, the time or the opportuntity.
I graduated from computer major three years ago and i worked in software company at first.the atmosphere is serious and pressure. I can't bear it and i gona to earn the second major and work in other filed. But when i do some budget,I don't have enough money. At last i give it up and join the training for my other skills.
So I planned to attend the collage again when i have enough money. i miss the collage so much and wish me good luck.

clorissa123 (3514) | 2 months ago | I am agreeing with you at this discussion. I ignored the fact that not many people really have enough money for college at the current period of time. The college loans aren't so available right now. So, we still have work on dead - end job to support our goal. So, good luck with you, and hang in there.

5. jambi462 (2090) | 2 months ago | I have yet to start college but I wouldn't mind having two majors. I would really enjoy majoring in both music and chemistry. Both topics interest me very much but I am currently on different levels in both subjects. I am fairly confident in my musical abilities and talents and think I would be able to very well in music classes. In chemistry I am a beginner and would still enjoy being able to become very skilled in the subject. Chemistry I would have to work very hard and study hard as well but I think it is worth it to hopefully try to develop medicines or do studies that could help people very much in the future.

8. abhishek111 (297) | 2 months ago | There is no problem in selecting a second major. Just consider the case of mine. I have done my post graduation with mathematics as my major. Presently I am doing my major in operations. The fact as long as your mind can carry on the two subjects there is no problem in pursuing a second major. This is only going to benefit you and enrich your skill set.

Chiniona (84) | 2 months ago | I won't to select a second major even though I‘m a college student!Maybe you think I don't know the cruelty of sociaty so that I say this words! No!I think the reason why you lost your work in the economic recession is that you are not strong! And even though you have the second major, you will be the unemployed man too!I think you must do better than others, and only done that, you are not unemployed! So please think more about how to do better instead to go back school!
