Water wastage is something that can be prevented. |
|
Hello everyone here Ji, I wish to share following email send by my friend to save water and save everyone of us. If anyone has something better and more, sharing would be still appriciated.
When every drop counts
Water wastage is something that can be prevented. Here’s a look at some hard facts and how we can save water Did you know that more than a billion people lack access to safe drinking water, and that over five million people, most of them children, die each year from illnesses caused from drinking unsafe water. Or that global consumption of water is doubling every 20 years and if current trends persist, by 2025 the demand for freshwater is expected to rise to 56% above the amount that is currently available - which will result in as much as 2/3 of the world population unable to access to clean water!
But why do we need to know this? For us free flowing water is available at the twist of a tap! Such fantastic statistics surely have nothing to do with you and me. Its for those long-haired environmental kind who to cry themselves hoarse talking about the (supposed) looming water crisis.
Think again!
Every drop of precious water that you and I waste could have made life better for someone else. A five minute splash in the shower takes up more water than a typical person living in the slum areas would use in the whole day. Each day, millions of people in developing countries walk long distances to get the water they need for drinking, cooking, and bathing and more often than not, this water is contaminated.
Here are some more bitter facts:
By 2025 two-thirds of the world's people will be facing water stress. The global demand for water will have grown by over 40% by then.
3.575 million people die each year due to lack of access to clean water.
In many Indian cities, 50 to 60 families share a single tap with water flowing through it for only a couple of hours. If the womenfolk don't arrive early enough to take their place in line, their families and children go without for the day.
Making a difference
When people across the world and even perhaps the household help you have, live in such harsh conditions, isn't wasting water almost a crime? About 75% of indoor home water use occurs in our bathrooms, and toilets are the single largest water users. Toilets use over 40% more water than needed! So watch the flush. A standard toilet cistern pushes 9-11 litres of water down the toilet with every flush despite the fact that majority of trips to the loo probably only require 50-60% of that amount of water for a clean flush. A five-minute shower with a standard showerhead uses 100 L of water whereas a a low-flow showerhead uses just 35 L of water.
While changing your flushing system or your showers may not be an immediate possibility here's what you can start doing today to save water:
1. Repair leaky faucets and always turn off your taps tightly so they don't drip. A tap leaking a drop of water per second wastes over 25L of water in a day. That's 9000L every year.
2. Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or washing your hands.
3. Have showers instead of baths and keep them short.
4. Even better would be using a bucket to bathe.
5. Never flush garbage of any kind down the toilet. Flushing down something that can go in the garbage bin is sinful.
6. Install a low-flush toilet (that uses 6 litres or less per flush), or place a plastic bottle filled with water in the water tank.
7. While using the washing machine, wash full loads and use the shortest cycle.
8. Use environmentally friendly (low or no phosphate and biodegradable)
9. Detergents which will consume less water while washing clothes.
10. Consider recycling the bath water or water from kitchen use for gardening and use mulch around shrubs and plants to retain moisture.
May God bless You and have a great time.

5. snowy22315 (8137) | 3 months ago | It is something we are all going to have to become aware of in the following years. I think we have taken water usage for granted in this country and it is something that we need to become aware of. I tend to use too much water myself because I will sometimes take a shower and a bath. We have been using the dishwasher less though.
