I personally just eat them, I don't think I will ever raise them.

Chicken usually eat rice grains or wheat grains .
Only few chickens lay eggs and they are called as broiler chickens. Usually they lay eggs every day atleast two. Maximum life of a chicken is not more than two years. They can be breed in a poultry forum.

I never thought of raising but just eating. Our neighbors do raise them, but they are often troubled by stray dogs and wolves. They seem to quit this idea very soon. But i can still see them doing all necessary steps to look after the remaining ones. They have not yet killed anyone they own. If they wanted to eat, then they go out, buy chicken.

chickens do not eat anything, they takes the easy to be swallowed, such as flies and rice. Incubating chicken eggs at night alone, I do not know exactly how long is it. they become a harmonious family and peace and never fight with fellow types. Their mother always kept them from the threat of wild creatures.

I was raised by my grandmother and she raised about 100 chickens every year for eating. Some we put in the freezer and some we canned. If chickens are not crowed and allowed out side they will eat grasses grains and weeds plus bugs. It is when they are penned up and over crowed that they eat any thing put in front of them.we raised ours on oats wheat and gave them weeds every day They had a nice big pen to get out side. Each chicken has just so many eggs in her. We would cull out the ones not laying eggs every year. You could tell by the size of the rectum area. I don't know how long a chicken can live but we had some up to 5 years old. We would butcher them at about 3 months old. Commercially grown chickens are raised so different. Free range chickens are the safest to eat if you can get them.

This is interesting for me because I have the opportunity to share a part of the lifespan of a chicken that almost no one has ever thought about: Post-mortem.

I work in a poultry rendering plant and I operate the facility 6 days a week. The chcken that is bought in stores comes from huge chicken farms where sometimes more than 100,000 chickens are killed every day. When a company kills at this rate, they must have something to do with their useless scrap (e.g. heads, feet, guts, bones, feathers, etc.). Thats where we come in. Chicken scraps by the truckload are brought in to our plant where it then enters a very complex cooking course. The feathers that are beaten off of the chickens moments after they die are mixed with blood and grease and cooked before the grease is extracted leaving a dry "meal" or powdery like substance. This "Hydrolyzed Feathermeal" is a chief ingredient in many of the fertilizers on the market. The guts and scraps are disintegrated into a pulp and mixed with grease as well. The recipe then enters 2 huge circulating cookers where it is cooked at 250-280 degrees ferenheit. Once through the cooking process, the meat is ran through a machine called a centrifuge. This spins the grease out much like a washing machine spins the water out of your clothes. the meal is then pressed to remove most of the remaining grease and is sold as a main ingredient in dog food and other animal foods.

While this is a very disgusting job, its one that has tremendous security because as long as chicken is cheaper than steak and people have dogs, this industry will flourish! Hope you enjoyed!

We used to have poultry before but its really hard to raise chicken because it really cost you much and it also requires attention.

me too willy, i just eat them, because in the end chickens will be cooked:) all items will be cooked and when it is cooked it is safe. (i only eat chicken that is cooked thoroughly and in a good temperature):)
