2. owlwings (5320) | 3 months ago | I think that it depends on your own relationship with God. If you don't yet feel that you have a personal relationship with Him, then, perhaps, you feel that the Church will help to give you that and so you feel that you have to go to church every week.
If you feel that God is truly in your heart, then what difference does it make whether you go to church or not?

owlwings (5320) | 3 months ago | I should have said that there are many reasons why people go to church. One very valid reason is that most churches are social centres and, whatever one's beliefs, being part of a community is, of itself, worthwhile for some.

Care4Pets (156) | 3 months ago | Codris, with the pope reference, I'm guessing you grew up Catholic, like me. Just wanted you to know that you don't need to give up your entire faith because you disagree with Catholicism. I had a falling out with that division of Christianity many years ago now, when I was a teenager. It took me several years of trial & error, but have finally settled in with a Methodist church. I won't tell you I go all the time because I don't, but I have found great peace & solace there when I do. It is the purest forms of Christianity (and what I remember growing up) without all the "crazy rules" (well, I think so, at least) of Catholicism. It still took me several years after to stop appeasing my grandparents by letting them guilt trip me into attending their Catholic church on the holidays, but I'm much happier now that I've stopped going (and resenting) and they were actually very supportive, so perhaps, your parents would be too if you found a new church.
Prayers of happiness & joy to you!:)

5. nextellady (118) | 3 months ago | If you skip it then yeah it is kinda bad, Because from personal exp I have noticed some sundays I just wanna sleep in and skip the service but I drag my self up and out and when its over im so glad I did, its usually one of the best services and it motivates me to get threw another week, If your really sick like contagious you naturally should not go but if your just feeling bad there is no better place to go really!

6. Care4Pets (156) | 3 months ago | For me, this answer is simple: NO and NO. I have been an on-and-off churchgoer for many years now. It is not because I don't love God, but more that my life is simply too busy or emotionally complicated for me to go worship in a group setting. This does not mean that I don't worship either. I pray every morning & night, give thanks for my life, and ask for help & guidance. My love for God is as strong at home as if I went to church and just because someone doesn't go to church doesn't mean that God loves them any less either. Me, I'm going back to church next month, or at least that's the plan. I do miss the group setting sometimes and my life is finally settling down after a major move several months ago. Prayers of happiness & joy to you!:)

8. suspenseful (17149) | 3 months ago | I would go to church every week and I do unless there is no one to care for my husband who is an invalid. If I cannot go then, one of my friends will bring a Cd of the services so I can listen to it. Luckily the church now has a lift for the power wheelchair so that we both can go to church, but now it is icey and I have to get some salt or sand for our sidewalk. I do a bit for the church, but cannot do that much (have only so many apples on our tree and I got rid of them by giving them to a few of my church friends.) but since I have a husband who needs a wheelchair and needs constant care, I cannot do that much.

Archie0 (3139) | 3 months ago | I go to church at least every other week. I have been getting better at it though. I don't know a lot of people judge me like no other because of the things they all find out about.

suspenseful (17149) | 3 months ago | It is not right to criticize someone who is trying to improve. People seem to think that when you become a Christian or a better Christian that suddenly you become all pious and start praying five times a day, quote Bible verses, stop gambling, or whatever you did that was worldly. It takes time and we all have sins we fight against. The trouble is that the world does not realize that we have God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit to help us and we now have a new nature. They expect us to be like them and fail big time and go back to our old life. So it is sort of they want us to be perfect all at once, and yet they do not expect us to be and I sort of thing they want us to fail. So it is going to be a bit confusing. Good luck on your walk with Christ.

10. almightyonline (241) | 3 months ago | Yes i do if I'm not that sick. Not just because it's compulsory, but it does give me peace of mind and a satisfaction that i don't know how. I actually prefer going to church to pray alone and not in a holy mass. It doesn't give me a peace of mind or satisfaction. Prayer never comes out from heart in that. But if I get there alone and pray myself, i feel so relieved.
