Are the fan in lap top supposed to run always? |
|
I am not sure about this. My laptop fan is not running continuously. It will run for some time and for some time, it will not run .Because of this, my laptop always burning and I am not able to work. I have also cooling pad to reduce that.,But still the heat is not seems reduced. What is reason for interm ittent running of my laptop fan? will there be any problem with the laptop? Is it necessary for the fans to run continuously? Are the fans are meant for continuous running? Please guide me in this. If I call the service engineer without knowing this fact, they may charge more by telling various faults with my laptop.

1. voldrox (1535) | 3 months ago | Hi wordlinx
well fans are not supposed to run at full speed always, you hear the fan mostly when they are running high and they only run faster when the laptop gets heated, happens also with mine, good for you though, coz you are using a laptop cooler, i think even i should get one... check your vents for any kind of blockage, these aren't good for the laptop in any way... i guess the computer gets heated more when you happen to do more multi-tasking and playing games, well playing games certainly is going to make your fan buzz high and getting heated... yeah but check for this, when your fan isn't running fast your laptop should not be heated, coz fan only runs fast when your computer is getting heated, if your laptop is getting hot and you can't hear the fan then you could be having a problem...
have a nice day wordlinx!

Wordlinx (224) | 3 months ago | Now I am able to understand the happening. My fan will start running with a noise some time and if I check the bottom of the laptop, mostly it will be very hot. If I put the laptop in the standby more for about 10 minutes, then it will become normal and I will not heat the fan sound. I am not playing any games in my laptop. But I used work with two or three applications simultaneously and also my browser window will be having multiple tabs always. This can be also a reason for that. Is it so?Thanks for the detailed clarification to my doubts.

2. athomice (219) | 3 months ago | Hello there! I think you need to set up the fan settings in bios mode. And if the problem persist bring it to the expert, your laptop blower has problem and maybe you need to replace it. The fan inside your laptop is for the cooling of your processor it needs to run continuously to prevent burnout. I had a the same problem with my laptop, I made my own laptop cooler powered by an external power supply I think this is more powerful than the usb one. But I think it need some replacement. I hope I can I help you with this info. God Bless!

Wordlinx (224) | 3 months ago | As I am not having much experience with the BIOS set up and configuration, I have to call an expert only to check the settings, as you have mentioned. If I keep my hands on the hard disk while it is hot, I can not keep for more than 3 seconds. It is the abnormal heat and I have never experienced with any t others laptop so far. I think I need to change my working attitude and should avoid multitasking. From the previous response, it seems multitasking is also one of the reasons for over heating of the laptops. Thanks for the guidance.

Wordlinx (224) | 3 months ago | So far I used to think the fan is running only when it makes a reasonable noise. Only after seeing the responses, I looked back of the my laptop and check for the run of fan. Still it is running, but at slower speed as you have mentioned. Thanks for the technical information. But friends are saying that there may be some problem with the hard disk itself and that's why it is getting that much of hot.But I don't have any other problem with the laptop except the overheating and system hang because of overhear. But I have to call a technician very soon. Thanks for your reply.

4. ronnyb (2809) | 3 months ago | Wow I have a similar problem with the overheating part .I run my laptop all the time and I think I can always hear the run running but there are times when I hear the fan running extremely hard .I think it should run continuously especially if it is working all the time because electronic components deliver a lot o fheat when working

Wordlinx (224) | 3 months ago | Mine is also working for more than 18-20 hours in a day. But the fan is running fast only for few times and then the system start to perform slowly. Then I need to keep the laptop in the standby mode for bout 10 minutes at least. Then only it is working fine for about one or one and half an hour. This is happening repeatedly.Still I believe some problems may be there in the hard disk as some of my friends are saying that the hard disk should not get such a heat.I have to call a technician it seems. Thanks for responding to this discussion.

5. Fulltank (1273) | 3 months ago | Hope to have it right. In your bios, there one feature there that monitors the temperature of your CPU's. Its the same in principle as the thermocouple on our air conditioners and refrigerators. When it senses that your CPU is on its critical level, the fan starts to blow and then automatically stops at certain temperature. Same with out air conditioner, when the thermocouple senses that the room temperature is dropping below its settings, the compressor begins to pump and cools the surroundings. Same happens to our refrigerators. So automatic start and stop of our fan is just a way of controlling the temperature of our CPU's not to overheat or damage the critical parts inside it.

Wordlinx (224) | 3 months ago | If this the case, then there may be the problems in the heat sensing element in the system or there may be some settings to adjust the minimum temperature at which the fans are supposed to run. My fans are running only if the hard disk much hot or when I am working with more applications. If the problems are only with the settings, then there will not be any problem in the adjustments and no need of spending money. If some other problems are there, I have to call the technician I think. Thanks for your response.

6. ladym33 (5586) | 3 months ago | Sounds like it is over heating and constantly haveing cool itself off. This is not a good sign. Do you have a lot of papers and debri around it. If some that might be contributing to the problem, humidity can do that too. I would call customer service and see what they suggest for you too do. Sometimes it is harmless but if it is doing it all the time that can not be good.

Wordlinx (224) | 3 months ago | The working environment of mine is neat and I will clean everything very often, at least twice in a day. But I did not see if there any blockage in the vetilation slots of the laptop and some of the members are saying that could also be one of the problems. As I am not familiar with the hardware, I have some hesitation to open the back of the laptop. It seems that I have to call a technician and ask him to check the laptop. But as the time is not permitting me to do so, so far I failed to do that. Now I have to do very soon.Thanks for your participation in this discussion.;

7. ShepherdSpy (2505) | 3 months ago | Depending on the airflow your computer gets to cool itself down,it will run the fan to expel what excess heat there is inside the casing..Do you sit with the computer actually on your lap,or do you sit at a desk while Using it? As you could imagine (and probably feel while using it!) the computer warms up on your legs,as you're partly blocking some air vents, thus reducing airflow and causing the fans to work more..keep Your computer dust free, and try and work in an airy place with some airflow to help..good Luck!

Wordlinx (224) | 3 months ago | Some times, I used to work with the laptop by keeping it in my legs. But I can do so far more than 10 minutes. due to the overheat. But now I have the doubt of the ventilation slots might have been blocked by some external particles or dust. I should clean it first.Even after doing so, if the system gets over heat, then I need to call the technical person to look after that. Else my hard disk may fail at any moment and can cause more expenditure. Thanks for responding to this discussion.

8. manong05 (2930) | 3 months ago | I bave been using a laptop for a long time and I notice this is well. At first I think something might be going wrong but my fears are more perceived than real. Fans are not designed to run continuously, they dissipate heat as soon as it reaches a tolerable level. It is normal to feel the heat especially in high end laptops with advanced systems. We might think that they are getting too hot when in fact the heat in withing acceptable level. During hot weather, the heat emitted is intensified and we should see to it that air vents are not blocked, that is dangerous for the laptop.
But if what you mean by burning is actually burning, then definitely it's time for you to go to a service center.
enjoy

Wordlinx (224) | 3 months ago | I have one more lap top in my home in the same make(hp) and that is not getting that much of heat. I am not able to keep my hands for typing on the laptop continuously for more than 5 minutes. Then I have to get back my arms. That much of heat is produced and only for few minutes, the fan is running now and then.I can not even touch the back of the hard disk panel after working with the laptop fro about half an hour. Am I need to change the hard disk or the fan?confusing ..Only the technical person can decide this. Thanks for your response.

Wordlinx (224) | 3 months ago | There are lot of possibilities for that also.Because, some of the keys are not working well,(on/off switch and media control switches) Also the battery is not getting the power continuously it seems. That's why its giving the back up power for 20 minutes or 40 minutes like that. If we try to change the board of the laptop, then they will charge too much and for that much of amount, we can buy one more laptop..Now I have to call the authorized person to check all these things. Thanks for your response.

10. xannebull (1389) | 3 months ago | it's better to have a laptop fan for your laptop and it must be running while you are still using it so that the insides of your laptop be prevented from heating so fast. it's just like a desktop that has it's own fan for the power supply to avoid burning, it's also good to do computer works in a cold place.

| gsrajahganesh (40) | 3 months ago | Well there are two or three fans inside every one of your laptop. But the third and the second fan run only when the processor emits more heat, or in other words the processor is processing memory intensive operations that require a hell a lot of memory to stay alive. If the third or the second fan runs continuously, then i suggest that you check out your motherboard or your processor fan for any defects.

Wordlinx (224) | 3 months ago | It seems only one fan is working now and then, But others may not be visible easily to our naked eyes. But ventilation slots have been given in two placed at the bottom of the laptop and only the area where the hard disk is positioned is getting much heat. I can not even type a single response without any break, as I can not keep my hands on the top of the laptop. That much of heat is produced in the left hand side of the laptop and some are saying that there may be some problems in the hard disk.I am very sad .How much am I need to spend for that? I am not sure also..Thanks for your response to your both.
