| jbbelle (5) | 1 month ago | I hate it when I only remember one line of the song and keeps singing it again and again. Lol!

starsailover (850) | 1 month ago | Hi: this happends to me almost everyday. Sometimes it's horrible because i don't really like the song that it's on my head but even with that i love to say that music is an important part on my life even if i'm not a musician

2. Laurie1986 (285) | 1 month ago | This happens to me a lot! Does anyone know what the actual scientific explanation for this might be? Wikipedia has it indexed under "Earworm" and there isn't really much of an explanation, just that it's more prevalent with people who suffer from OCD. That's understandable, but what about the rest of us?

|
| jbbelle (5) | 1 month ago | No one knows for certain but according to some speculative theories stucks songs may be like stuck thoughts. A temporary failure of our mental control system.

starsailover (850) | 1 month ago | Hi Laurie and Jbbelle: thanks for the explanation. I have never consider this point of view but i think this might be the answer we have to deal with a song for a while. In some cases i have got to the point that i don't want to listen this song at all.

|
Laurie1986 (285) | 1 month ago | Thanks, jbbelle. How weird!
You could try forcing yourself to sing a different song. That works for me sometimes.

| 4. Nicapol (43) | 1 month ago | There is a cure! At least for me there is. If you listen to an entire music album while doing something else. Not paying much attention to the music. Once the album is done playing you wont even notice and there most likely wont be any song stuck in your head. This works for me.

5. aulius111 (165) | 1 month ago | I always get a song stuck in my head unless I haven't been paying attention to the music. All you can do is listen to a song that isn't annoying. Sleeping also cures it.

6. paintswithwords (242) | 1 month ago | It happens to me all the time too. I know of no cure for it. It is as if the mind gets stuck on replay for a while. With me, sometimes it finally stops, but usually I have to get involved into something that really takes mental effort, like playing one of my word games. The deep in thought concentration finally gets rid of the mental musical replay in my mind. So, that is probably the only cure is to find a way to concentrate and focus mentally or something. You may have to deliberately focus on other thoughts for some time before it will work. Use your cell phone and play a game that involves concentration for a few minutes and see if it works.

|
| jbbelle (5) | 1 month ago | what if playing a game then still keep singing. i know eventhough i'm concentrated at work i keep humming or singing on the last song i've heard... i guess it really needs deep concentration...
| |
|
|
paintswithwords (242) | 1 month ago | Yes, that is the point, it is deep concentration. Work may be to habitual and comes without deep mental effort. Has to be something that really taxes your concentration, otherwise I know no other way to rid yourself of it. I know a song will stick with me all day if I do not stop and concentrate on my writing or a word game.
