Running with a Cold?

Well, I caught the office cold. It's thankfully not a constant runny nose type cold (currently, knock on wood). But it's still somewhat bad as I keep having to blow my nose. But I was still feeling good enough today for a trip to the aquarium and volunteering. Tomorrow I should still be at work (because there is no point in staying home when everyone has it already). So does that mean running would still be okay?
I don't normally breathe through my nose so that shouldn't be a problem. Although I know I'll still not be able to breathe as easily and definitely would plan to slow my pace by at least a minute per mile, probably even more. I just feel like I should get out there especially with having that 10K coming up. But then I also don't want to overdo it and ruin myself for the upcoming 5K (which I'm trying to finally beat 30 minutes on, whereas the 10K I am just hoping to be able to run the entire thing).
So should I run or just stay home this week?

No!No Running! You need your rest and plenty of fluids. You don't want this to become pneumonia!I know you feel well enough but your body needs rest .It is fighting a virus and needs all the help it can get. So going to work is okay but No Running! Okay,I'm finish sounding like your mother!

I think I'm sticking to your advice at least for a few days here. Sitting at work looking down at paperwork always seems to make my colds feel far worse, and once again that worked it's magic. So I won't be out running tomorrow night. But I hopefully will be feeling better to at least run one day this week. Maybe two. But I don't want to run if I'm not feeling a lot better, since I don't want to ruin my chances for the Halloween 5K where I hope to beat 30 minutes. But I also don't want to get out of shape by not running at all this week if I can avoid that.

Saturday my nose started running a bit, then Sunday I could tell it was a cold, and then Monday has been the worst day so far. So I'm hoping Saturday counts as the start date.
I'm supposed to go to Disneyland on Sunday too. Already have tickets.

If I remember correctly ,it takes 7 days to Really get over a cold .What was the first day of your cold?By then you should be well enough to get back to your normal routine. There is plenty of time before Halloween. You will be okay.

Yeah, I guess I could always add in a slight speed workout during the week of the 5K, just well in advance of the day of the race.
I hate getting sick. Although I am glad I wasn't sick for the marathon bike tour. I felt like I was getting sick before that and then luckily I didn't end up getting sick until a week later.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking... any day this week where I can finally run I'll do just an easy short run. Just something to stay in shape.
Now the week has gotten too hot though which makes my nose run more. If it cools down a bit I'll definitely be running.

True, when everyone is already infected, why stay at home. Usually running will cause dry throat and may lead to bronchitis.
Bronchitis is
horrible and painful.
It kills our working persistence and forces us to return home. However, if you drink enough water before running,
it will lower the risk of bronchitis.
'll say that 10K is too much, yet it depends on your age and your running skill. If you pant after running
1K, 10K is too much,
but it's ok when you start panting after 5K :D.
Enjoy running! Try running at home, it's easier for you to recover from runs, and try to recover from your cold before the 10K. :D

Thanks! I'll definitely drink some water before running. Today I felt a little bit better so I think by Thursday I'll be able to run. Tonight I didn't go running with the running group since I would hate to get anyone sick there. But Thursday I'll go running by myself. Then Saturday I'll probably go out again hopefully back to my normal pace.
I only have a minor cough so far with this cold, but I definitely don't want bronchitis. Thanks for the advice!
