I learned it first in Girl Scouts

I learned about s'mores. I learned the song "Where have all the flowers gone". I learned a lot of songs there first, actually. I learned about fractured tacos. Fractured what? Well, you've probably heard of nachos, right? You know, taco chips with cheese and other things slopped on top? Well that's basically what fractured tacos is. You make taco meat. You warm up the refried beans. You put the chips on a plate. You smother them with meat, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato, olives, etc. Voila! Fractured tacos. Long before I ever heard of nachos, we did fractured tacos in Girl Scouts. What did you guys learn in scouting (or wherever) long before it became popular (possibly under another name)?

Were you a brownie first? I was.... I made Jewish Apple Cake for my baking badge. Later, I learned class distinction, not being wealthy in a wealthy area, I had my sisters hand me down green dress, and the sash was stripped of her badges and mine sown on....evil lil batches let me know in no uncertain terms I was beneath them. Then I earned that it was a religious organization, and I wanted NOTHING to do with any of them. I don't regret quitting scouts, not one bit. And those cookies sell themselves, or they used to, back when they were reasonably priced. My girls flirted with scouts, but thank god they never went all in. s'mores were really the best part of the whole deal.

Hi there #1. I was not a brownie. We were moving that year, I think. I don't know about you, but I remember the cookies being 50 cents. I am old. I'll never forget the woman, when I was selling them, who told me she wouldn't buy them because they were stale. Geez, what a thing to tell a kid. How about, "no thank you." Sheesh...

Well, that was rather a long time ago for me but scouting taught me how to start and build a fire using stones and cook rice using just a handkerchief. I also learned how to tie knots which I found helpful until now. We used to camp out a lot in those days and I learned how to put up tents. Scouting really was fun. enjoy life!

I remember learning how to do knots and leave trail signs, don't recall learning how to build a fire though.

I was a Girl Scout and my youngest daughter was one last year. She hasn't decided on signing back up this year. I learned how to make compost for a garden. Had a worm and some veggie pieces, a little dirt adn there you had it! A constant source of nutrition for your garden.

Proud to have been a girl scout, too. Most important thing I learned was how to make a french knot. Came in very useful in so many instances in life.

I knew I missed out on alot by not being in girl scouts! My girls were however...and they had so much fun. I don't really know if they learned anything by a different name....I do know that alot of what they learned they kept with them..and they still talk about the memories.

hi dawnald well I learned in Girl Scouts that if you take some canmned chili and heat it and mix it with your cheese and macaroni you now had what we called chili Mac. And for kid our ages at the time it really seemed downrigh delicious of course we had hiked a couple of miles and played along horse creek so when it came time to eat we were properly ravenous. no body had picky appetites that day. he he.

My sister-in-law has my niece in scouting. Not sure if it is the same or not. My kids love to make smores though.
