Netbook or Notebook... which do you prefer? |
|
I just bought a netbook a week ago... and i must say that it is very handy... i was able to bring it anywhere because it is very light and small... as small as an ordinary textbook... not like the laptop i am using in the office... which is like the opposite...
But i must say... when it comes to typing and doing my regular work... even mylot... i still prefer the regular size laptop... because the screen is bigger and i can easily read discussions, letters, emails, essays, and other stuff... i fell that a netbook makes everything look too crowded... especially when i have a lot of windows open...
Now that i have two kinds of laptop... i feel like i have the best of both worlds... though using one in the office and another one at home can be quite confusing... it will take a lot of getting use to... but i will get there in the future...
So which do you prefer? a netbook or a notebook... do you have both or only one?...

1. shadow41 (750) | 1 month ago | I prefer notebooks. I have an acer aspire laptop and I love it. I'm a power user or gamer so I bought a notebook. Netbooks are great but I can't play games with it. There are also notebooks out there that are light and small and best they're cheap the same with the price of common netbooks. Dell will be releasing their new notebook laptops that are light, small, with of course greater features than of a netbook. Best is the price. It's the same with netbook. They did it to counter the sales of netbooks today.

aseretdd (6841) | 1 month ago | The laptop i am using is an acer aspire and the netbook is a neo... i chose the neo because it i was quite cheap and it came with a free external dvd drive... i would have bought the acer brand but it was much too expensive for me...
Thanks for the response...

shadow41 (750) | 1 month ago | Oh I heard lots of horror stories about neo laptops. How is it going for you? Are you not experiencing any trouble with your neo laptop? Anyway I like the designs/themes or skins of neo especially the pink one. Hahaha.

aseretdd (6841) | 1 month ago | So far so good... it has been two weeks and no problems just yet... i was skeptical to buy a neo laptop... but since there is a warranty and it is quite easy to fix because parts can easily be bought in shops...

|
shadow41 (750) | 1 month ago | Oohh. So it's only two weeks old. Hmmmm... shiny and new. Hehe. Well I think all laptops have warranty's. I only hope you won't need to purchase neo laptop parts in the future. I'm pretty sure you'll take good care of it anyway.:) Good luck to your new notebook or netbook. Happy myLotting to you.

aseretdd (6841) | 1 month ago | Well, it cost me a lot of money... so i will surely handle it with great care... even when i am travelling with it... i actually preferred a different brand... but i have this experience where i bought a really expensive laptop and it lasted only for 3 years... i can't have it fixed in my country because i bought it abroad... so now i want to try a local brand to see if i will have the same experience...

shadow41 (750) | 1 month ago | I see your point. I think in every things we do there's always some chance or luck with it. I hope your luck is in good fate upon buying your new laptop. May it last for a very long time:)

2. dekada80 (364) | 1 month ago | Right now, I only have the full size dell laptop but I'm really planning to buy a netbook also because of it's very lightweight, compact size and only requires a small sleeve or bag to carry it around unlike my dell, I have to placed it in my laptop backpack and the weight combination is quite heavy, I was able to use an acer aspire one netbook before when a friend lend me his and it is really comfortable carrying it around, I always go out so buying a netbook as a secondary laptop is a good option for me. Although it is a little bit underpowered compared to full size laptop, I'll just use in for my internet activities anyway.

aseretdd (6841) | 1 month ago | There are a lot of buildings and malls that have free wifi access... so a netbook is the best one to carry around if you are an internet junkie... i tried using mine while eating lunch in the mall and it was like a piece of heaven for me...

3. book1962 (14455) | 1 month ago | I am working from a desktop computer at work and from a laptop here at home. I would do much like to get me a netbook but they are quite expensive an so I wait for a little longer till I get me one. I will also have to get accustomed to the small screen but I hope I will manage when the time has come and I bought me a netbook. I sure want to wait till mobile internet maybe drops in charges a little.

aseretdd (6841) | 1 month ago | There are a lot of affordable netbooks out in the market... and they are quite powerful too... i am just glad that i got mine with a free external dvd drive... so i don't need to worry if i have to install a certain software... the small screen can really take time to get used to... but we will manage...
Thanks for the response...

4. drannhh (7281) | 1 month ago | Aseretdd, I have not had an opportunity to use a netbook yet, but I like the definition "minimalist" in regard to them. BTW, here is an interesting article on netbooks:
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2009/01/five-reasons-to-seriously-consider-buying-a-netbook.ars
I did recently buy a smaller, lighter laptop and it is a joy to use. Next week I will be traveling somewhere that I do not feel like carrying even the lighter one, though so if I check in online at all before November, it will be on my smartphone, which of course has a teeny weeny screen.

5. kkanaka (393) | 1 month ago | Hi aseretdd, The netbook is good for interenet browsing and while travelling, other than that if we have to work for long hours at the notebook then its not highly recommended, but I like the size and shape of it, though it looks small the keyboard is very good and almost same size as that of the notebook, only screen is the problem, like you said even few windows looks crowded.... I use a notebook in office (Acer travelmate) but soon will be getting a netbook at home!!!!

6. zed_k4 (4255) | 1 month ago | Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. I think for meeting, work purposes and presentations, a netbook is cool. For a long-term usage, notebook is more better. It has a bigger screen and everything can be seen more clearer and etc..

| |
|
|
aseretdd (6841) | 1 month ago | I agree with you... netbooks are cool when it comes to presentations... i brought mine when i had a teaching demonstration and the students were in awe when they saw it and made my powerpoint presentations more interesting for them...

zed_k4 (4255) | 1 month ago | It's my pleasure. There's always this fascination about computers when it comes to kids. I've always wondered about that too when I was young, but it was the desktop computer instead of laptop. Those times, the notebook/netbook were almost non-existent.

7. sumanadep (243) | 1 month ago | For me it depends on the use of it....you are right net books have small screen...I prefer notebook although it is difficult to carry but it is good for the type of work I use it for....I do not like scrolling up and down....I actually use notebook for my office work which requires viewing lots of data at a time..
| |
| |
|
|
aseretdd (6841) | 1 month ago | I agree with the scrolling up and down problem but i don't have my own car so i take public transportation... and a netbook is so convenient... the only is that the small screen... seems so crowded...
Thanks for the response...

8. carmelbg (394) | 1 month ago | I have to say I prefer notebooks. I use a compaq with a full size keyboard and really good big screen. My husband has a compaq netbook and I don't like the small screen and find it hard to type on the keyboard. His netbook is a lot lighter so is more convenient when we travel. We use my laptop to watch movies on etc which wouldn't be any good on the netbook.
| |
| |
|
|
aseretdd (6841) | 1 month ago | I have not tried watching a movie using my netbook... but for sure i wouldn't like it because i prefer the big screen... compaq notebooks are quite nice... but expensive too...

| 9. dvikramsingh (98) | 1 month ago | Laptop, Notebook, Netbook, Tablet PC, Mini PC - how are they different? A laptop is a mobile computer with a full sized keyboard, flip up monitor and space for built in optical or floppy disk storage drives. A notebook is a mobile computer with a full sized keyboard and a flip up monitor. It does not have space for built in optical or floppy disk drives but instead provides communication ports so that an external drive can be connected. This allows a notebook to be much thinner than a laptop. A netbook or mini pc is a mobile computer with a keyboard smaller than full size (some are less than half the size) and a flip up monitor. It also does not have space for built in storage drives but does provide ports for connecting an external drive. A tablet pc is a mobile computer with a full sized keyboard. It has a monitor that can be opened and then twisted around to lie flat on the keyboard with the screen pointing up. The monitor can then be written on. A touch sensitive layer in the monitor allows hand writing to be captured and stored.
I prefer note book .....region you know above.
| |
| |
|
|
aseretdd (6841) | 1 month ago | The tablet pc sounds cool... i have never seen one... i thought touch screens only apply to mobile cell phones... but i guess laptops can have that feature too...

10. GemmaR (1276) | 1 month ago | My mother has just bought a netbook, and that's fine for her, as all she likes to do is browse the internet. For me however, I need a proper sized screen so that I can always see what I'm doing. I would hate to not be able to see the whole screen at the same time, that would annoy me. And plus, I need laptops with all the right drives, and sometimes the smaller netbooks don't have those do they.
| |
| |
|
|
aseretdd (6841) | 1 month ago | I agree with the netbook not having all the drives you would need... it doesn't have a dvd drive and there is not dial up internet port... so there is a need for external drives... but since i only need it for internet purposes... a netbook is perfect for me...
Thanks for the response...
