Race should not matter but the media thinks so |
|
I just found out that Hodges the leader of the Criminal Minds show has been told by his superior to step down and to give Derek the position as leader or the team would break up. I have not watched all the last season's episodes so do not know if Hodge's ex wife and son are still alive or if the killer murdered them and that is the reason he is going to pieces. Switch to another of my favorite shows, House, and House is being replaced by Foreman. Turn then to Numb3rsand David Sinclair is second in charge and might be replacing Don. Oh yes in Fringe guess what the head boss is? WE turn now to NCIS and the director happens to be Roy. They are going slow in the CSI shows, the future boss that will eventually replace Catherine is also Black or African American (I also include the blacks born in America and those who emigrated from Africa). What makes me wonder is that these replacements are getting into places of importance on the tv shows. Oh yes and we no longer see Without a Trace. It has been canceled. Has it run out of its alloted six years or did the writers, directors, or the shows not give in to threats to have a black man as head of the Without a Trace unit and because of that, the show was canceled? Oh they have not touched CSI New York or CSI Miami but that is because the lead actors of those two shows already had movie credits behind them and were already established actors. So does not ability and skill matter or are they trying to please Obama? What will be the repercussions? Will African Americans feel that they deserve to be the boss of whatever organization they enter because of what is on Tv? Will non African Americans stop trying to get ahead, because they will feel "what is the use?" Will people think more seriously about giving to the poor children in Africa and decide that "charity belongs at home/" Me? I think do not make all the top bosses in the Tv shows, all AFrican Americans or Blacks, the same as I thought years ago, when I said "do not make all the big bosses on the Tv shows Japanese or any one particular ethnic group. It does not give a good image. It shows that they are afraid of the consequences if they go against the common thread. I think tv shows have to be fair and not just give the top parts to just one particular ethnic group because the situation may be repeated in real life and not just in fantasy. Oh and I am Canadian and it seems that the tv sows and advertisers things that we are all East Indian. Gives a false image. So what would the repercussions be of what is showing on certain Tv dramas and their choice of the important characters?

1. dragon54u (9751) | 3 months ago | I think we are seeing the social pendulum swing the other way--it used to be that whites were the ones in charge in TV and movies and now we're going to the other extreme. I like Leon on NCIS, though, I think he'll be good. Before, they had a woman because they needed to show women in charge and now the producers are following politics. It's not a bad thing, necessarily--if kids watched these shows it would be positive role models for them. But they watching crap like South Park and stuff like that, unfortunately.
Hey, what happened on House?! The stupid baseball game pre-empted my recording and I only got the first 15 minutes of it. Is House completely replaced as boss by Foreman? I'll wait to see the repeat of this episode but I'd like to know. I also read that Chase is have problems with his role in the dictator's untimely demise?

suspenseful (17136) | 3 months ago | I figured that if one or even three dramas show blacks in position of power, that is all right. But even though I named only those few shows, there are others where the blacks are in power or are in charge, but we only see them come on the scene and do boss like orders such as "I want this on my desk by tomorrow morning," or "You should have investigated further." I do not like blacks just in sub servient roles but I would like to see an equal distribution. So my husband was a heavy duty mechanic before he retired, and he had his journey man's papers and everything. And my father was a master sergeant in the army. We want to see blacks in roles equal to ourselves as some of us have men in the family who are doctors, lawyers, pastors, short order cooks, take orders from others, etc. But it seems the media has it's intention to if there is a boss role, give it to the blacks. Why not vary the roles? House was trying to get out of that drug he used because of his pain from his leg and he had problems because his father died. He entered treatment and Foreman used that opportunity to become head, even though Chase and the others still consider House in charge. So Foreman took advantage of House's absence. In a way, one of the blacks who are in the top roles as bosses are trying to let the media know that they do not like the idea of writing in scripts where the white guy is fired or demoted so they can get the role. I think the media does not have the idea if inspiring blacks to try harder and go to university, but the idea of getting even with the whites for the slavery issue. The trouble is that not every white person is a descendant of a slave owner.

suspenseful (17136) | 3 months ago | Ah yes but they are hoping that we will. I remember years ago, when we were trying to get pregnant. There were lots of shows where the married couple were sterile or infertile and trying to get pregnant and there was always an unmarried girl who got pregnant the first time and was trying to keep her baby. Why I thought the only way to get pregnant at that time was to take off my wedding ring before my husband and I made love.

Lakota12 (17220) | 3 months ago | and you see the ring had nothing to do with it. Not even the movies had anything to do with it. am sorry you couldnt get PG but just some people just cant . with nothng to do with anything they think they might be doing wrong

suspenseful (17136) | 3 months ago | We did adopt, but I often felt it was my fault because I was wild in my late teens. The doctor told us that it was rare for familial als to start when someone is 60 and if it was that, it was a good thing that I did not get pregnant. That, however, did not make me feel any better. Als has no blame to it, but living a wild life, and getting vd does.

3. Hatley (21489) | 3 months ago | hi suspenseful of course I am here in the US but I do agree they really should not give the top parts to any one particular ethnic group but divide it up evenly between however many races and actors they need. Hope they listen to your ideas.

suspenseful (17136) | 3 months ago | I hope so too. I did see a show that was on Showcase where the boss was a Mexican American. It was about these crooked cops - I forgot the name, but it had this bald guy as the top actor. And I remember a show where the sheriff was an American Indian. It was based in Kansas. I guess it did not last long because the top guy was not an African American. I mean if they are trying to over compensate the blacks for what some people did in the South, are they not going out of revenge and not justice? Seems giving the best parts to one ethnic group would only increase racism instead of decreasing it.

5. jezzmay (766) | 3 months ago | I am like you I think what we see we think it should happen in real life. Therefore I watch very little TV, but this only effects me. When all others maybe watching this, and thinking this should go on in real life. I do not think this is a good idea, Balance out the parts. Have a great day.

suspenseful (17136) | 2 months ago | I do not like the idea of stereotypes and I think every ethnic group has some bad people in it and they should not just say "oh we are all perfect and we do not want to be put in a negative light." What happens is then people assume that because that ethnic group is all portrayed as heroes even when they are doing evil things that once they become in charge, they will save the world, everything will be hon(ky dory but when someone of an ethnic group who is portrayed as bad, when one of their's is in charge, they think that he is a hypocrite, and when something goes wrong - not a good way of being fair.

6. lovinangelsinstead21 (465) | 3 months ago | Hi suspenseful,
Has the show Without A Trace really been cancelled? They show it over here but I have no idea which season they are in. Also have never taken much notice of who is in charge of their Office in the Police Department. We just like to watch the Show and that´s it. It has become one of our favourites but they show this really late at night so I don´t always get to see it. Also watch I think it´s called "Medium"? where she plays the part of Alison Dubois these kind of show are much more watchable for me than others that are really popular but I really don´t care too much for. House is okay sometimes too but I really don´t mind who is playing who and what race they are for me they have to be good actors that´s all and to make the part they are playing believable.

suspenseful (17136) | 2 months ago | It has been canceled over here. But in America, they have this guilt complex because from the 1600s to the mid 1800s blacks or negro type people were brought over as slaves and even the practice was abolished back in the 1860s, there is still guilt about and the only way the media feels that they have to compensate besides giving their descendants lots of money is to make them look good in tv shows, etc. I guess where you live, there are only a few American shows imported to Spain and it is harder to get American shows when there is an ocean between. But here in Canada, especially in the southern part, it is easy for us to get American shows and we can see the trends right away. I remember back in the 1970s where there were a lot of space shows, and no matter what, all the space ships looked alike.

lovinangelsinstead21 (465) | 2 months ago | Hi suspenseful,
Got back to you a bit late but really sorry to hear that they have cancelled the Show. Well at least they will show the repeats from time to time. My very favourite ever amongst a few of them was "The Hill Street Blues" we never see any repetitions here of that as an example. However "Without A Trace" was becoming one of my favourites just as I was getting to like it. Good quality acting well put together Police Intrigue Series would give it my highest marks if it were in any kind of charts. We do see about five or six Series around but they are usually all spread around the other Television Channels so you never or hardly ever get two American Series in a Day. Take "Medium" for instance it was repeating repeat after repeat now we have one new episode and one older one from another Season so not too bad. Quite like that one too. Take care now.

suspenseful (17136) | 2 months ago | There was one show I really watched and that was Third Watch. It ended quite nicely and that was rare and it showed what happened to the main characters and there was none of the "one ethnic group is more important then the others," because the writers were very careful to give everyone a chance. I do not watch Medium that much. But I do miss Without a Trace. I would rather the show has a proper ending when it is canceled instead of being left up in the air.
