Finally! Somebody asked the question! |
A CNSNews reporter asked Pelosi where it says in the Constitution that the government can require citizens to buy health insurance. He really didn't get an answer but at least the question was asked! http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/55971 What do you think? Later in the article, he asks If it is the Speaker’s belief that there is a provision in the Constitution that does give Congress this power, does she believe the Constitution in any way limits the goods and services Congress can force an individual to purchase?" CNSNews.com asked. "If so, what is that limit? I wonder if people have really thought about this.....

1. dragon54u (9491) | 1 month ago | There are so many policies that violate the Constitution lately. Michele Bachman once asked how the Constitution gave congress the right to do something, I forget what, and never got an answer.
I don't think these people in DC have ever read the Constitution. If so, they would burn it.

2. valentinesdiner (386) | 1 month ago | Candidate Senator Obama was really pressed on the issue of making insurance manditory... would his bill cover all Americans.
In the primaries he was attacked by "cover everybody" candidates like Clinton and Kucinich that he was not a true Democrat unless he called for all to be covered. He stood fast and said he would provide options but nothing manditory. That took some guts.
I have not heard Obama change from the 'mopre options' pitch he had made earlier. Maybe Pelosi is facing the others in the caucus calling for blanket coverage, but it does not appear in the Prez's plan.

thegreatdebater (1032) | 1 month ago | Is it then also against the constitution for me to be forced to have Car Insurance? Because that would be AWESOME!!!!
| |
xfahctor (5192) | 1 month ago | it would be blatently unconstitutional for the federal government to force people to buy auto insurance, which is why so far they don't.
| |
thegreatdebater (1032) | 1 month ago | X, there is nothing in my STATE consitution about this either. But, should I just carry a copy of that with so the next time I get pulled over I can show the officer? Would you think this would work well?
| |
xfahctor (5192) | 1 month ago | Debator, lol, a friend of mine in vermont who carries a pistol concieled at all times, carries a pocket copy of the bill of rights that he calls his "C&C" permit. Probably won't help him either. I'm not sure what state you live in, but it seems to me the best way to get rid of a law is to go around the legislature of the state and get it put on the ballot as a referendum.

4. thegreatdebater (1032) | 1 month ago | Where does it say in the constitution that you have to have Car Insurance? But, most state in the country require it. Have YOU really thought about why you have to have Car insurance?

| |
Ima_C_Suvaya (275) | 1 month ago | I don't have to have car insurance. And I will not be fined for not having it.
| |
thegreatdebater (1032) | 1 month ago | In my state you are not fined, you lose your license and can be put in jail. What state do you live in?
| |
Ima_C_Suvaya (275) | 1 month ago | You miss my point. I don't have to have a car. Think about all those New Yorkers and other big city downtown dwellers who don't have cars. Do you think they should be required to have auto insurance (maybe to make up for those that can't afford it)? I only have to have car insurance if I have a car or drive. I can't think of any state that forces you to have auto insurance even though you don't own a car or drive. However, it probably isn't far down the line.
| |
xfahctor (5192) | 1 month ago | Debator, the federal cannot and DOES NOT force you to buy car insurance. Your STATE government does, but ONLY if you choose to purchase and register a car.
| |
Rollo1 (1580) | 1 month ago | If you insist on using the auto insurance analogy then not only must you consider that the Federal gov't cannot force you to buy auto insurance as that is state regulated, and that not only don't you have to have insurance if you don't own a car, but also that you ARE charged HIGHER premiums if you have a bad driving record.
Now, I hear Obama and all those in favor of Obamacare denouncing health insurance companies for making underwriting decisions (those that affect coverage, eligibility and premium) based on health conditions of the applicant. Yet, auto insurance does this. Companies may refuse to write a policy or charge higher premium based on the crime rate in your area, your driving record and how many accidents you've had.
So in order for you to use this analogy, you must then be in favor of health insurance companies doing what auto insurance companies do - consider their risk before issuing a policy or determining premium. If not, then you all have to stop using this comparison.

thegreatdebater (1032) | 1 month ago | Rollo, I don't support my state forcing me to have car insurance. But this is a state right, but I haven't seen one state that doesn't force you to have car insurancce. So to all of you that want states to decide everything isn't this a perfect example of where states or federal government doesn't really matter?
| |
thegreatdebater (1032) | 1 month ago | X, I understand that not everyone has a car, but the majority of Ameircans do, and that insurance industry has forced the states to enact laws against driving with no insurance.
| |
laglen (3744) | 1 month ago | debater - i think the point is, you wont go to jail for not owning a car. You WILL for not purchasing health ins and not paying the fines.
| |
xfahctor (5192) | 1 month ago | "But this is a state right, but I haven't seen one state that doesn't force you to have car insurancce" Then move to my state, we DON'T have manditory insurance, only state left in the union that doesn't.

laglen (3744) | 1 month ago | Good luck with that referendum! That would be great!
| |
thegreatdebater (1032) | 1 month ago | X, my point is that the insurance industry backed that everyone must have insurance portion of the plan. They backed off that, and I am not really sure why that is. The fact is that in many states the insurance industry has monopolies, and they don't want those messed with. For those of you who hate the government, and believe in states rights I ask you this: What is the difference between having a tyrant one hundred miles away, or one a thousand miles away?
| |
thegreatdebater (1032) | 1 month ago | X, good luck with your amendment. I am sure that they will just claim first amendment rights, but that is currently a catch-all for everything. I wish that someone could explain to me where it says in the first amendment that I have the right to buy as many elected officals as I want, and make them do what I want them to do. The first person that can show me that will get a nice shinny quarter!

ParaTed2k (4586) | 1 month ago | Once again Debator, you show your total ignorance and idiocy.
First of all, there is NO requirement for everyone to have car insurance. The facdt you cling to this lie so tightly shows how far up Obama's butt your brain is.
Secondly, the US Constitution leaves to the States and to We the People everything not covered in it. That means that there are things the States and We the People can do that the Federal Government cannot do.
If it isn't in the US Constitution, then the Federal Governmet has no business doing it. I know you and the Constitution are mortal enemies, and you prefer some kind of dicatorship where mommy and daddy government change your smelly diapers for you.. but the rest of us enjoy the freedom you resent.\

6. us2owls (2033) | 1 month ago | Pelosi like so many others in Washington probably doesn't have a clue what the constitution says. All we as citizens can do is hope and pray that Pelosi and the likes of her are voted out of office ASAP. As for Mr. Obama being a constitutional lawyer - is he? Have you seen his law degree and the rest of his records? Does he actually have a degree?
