Its soo cold and dull in the winter as well as there is nothing much to do.It gets dark really early as well,so people tend to stay indoors to stay warm.Perhaps that is some of the reason as people do not get to see people who they normally would see. What do you think.

Personally, I find the winter strangely more relaxing than the summer. In the summer, because of the continuous hot weather, I feel bad for wasting each day just lazing about and not doing much. However, in winter, you aren't expected to venture outside, so I tend to take each day much more slowly and generally more chilled out.

For me, I generally feel more awake during the winter months because I am less active and my energy isn't being sapped by the beating sun.

I for one do notice certain people are less upbeat and less lively during the winter months because of the cold temperature and the bleak weather.

The worst part of the winter is that there are no leaves in the trees and the sorrounding is cold plus colourless. So, it kinds of seems depressing. Apart from that I just hate being stuffed up with clothes, you have to wear sweateres, trousers and many more. I think its the worst plas and also the day is too short.

Well, I'm solar powered, so don't get much done in the winter, that's for sure.
I think the bears have it right: hibernate for the duration.

hi jugsjugs I live in California, the southern part and winter is still pretty mild and warm, not below 69 anyway and usually about 80 or so and sunny most of the time, some days the old June gloom happens in the fall too, but generally we have lots of sunshine
and after awhile this can get boring. But I still prefer boring to freezing cold. I can understand in the colder states that people will stay inside more just to keep warm and thus are not as social as in other seasons. here the seasons all just sort of mooch together.

happy Hi Jugs...yes, I think for those of us in colder climates, the winters can seem confining and lacking in sunshine, and they tend to feel very long. It can be depressing, for all the reasons you stated.

There is an actual form of depression, too, called SAD (seasonal affective disorder) where the blues hit some much harder. It's related to lack of proper light, and there are now special lights these people can sit in front of for a certain length of time each day that seem to help them.

So...winter will be here soon. (sigh) But it helps to get out, even on a nasty day, and even if for a while.

I think that it is normal to feel a bit down at the holiday's, especially if you are not able to see relatives or friends because of the weather. Christmas is a holiday to be happy, thankful and joyful, and yet you can't completely be this way without everyone you wish to be around you, around you.

There is a depression that people get during winter called seasonal affective disorder. I get it every winter. I suffer from depression anyway so it is harder on me during winter months. Staying inside, the days shorter, and it being cold out makes people feel sadder than usual.

That depends a bit on where you winter and how much "stuff" you have. Some people go to expensive ski resorts and play in the snow in winter and then gather around fancy fireplaces drinking hot beverages. That doesn't sound too depressing but my choice is to live where the winter is sunny and mild. Yes, the days are shorter, but then there is more time to play games on the internet! I try not to hang on the computer very much when the weather is nice, as then I prefer to go outdoors and be more active physically. Winter is a good time to be mentally active instead.

I love winter! There's something about the cold and the early darkness that really pumps me up. Spring and summer...ugh. I hate them; it's too hot, and too sunny, and the days are longer. Give me cold, snowy darkness over hot, sunny daylight any day. happy
