Why do you train?

Why do you work out? To get better at some sport, to lose weight, to get rid of negative energy...? What's your reason? The main reason I train is to get in great shape for Parkour (art of movement, google it if you want to know more).

Hi Bionicman, Parkour I just looked it up and looks very cool indeed. You would be have to be very fit and skilled to do what some o those guys do. Watched a few vids of it on youtube. I work out a bit just really to stay in shape and keep fit

I love parkour. When I discovered it and started training it was the best thing that happened in my life. It really makes you feel free.

If you can run, you can do parkour. Parkour is a skill to get from point A to point B in the fastest and most direct way possible using only your own body. How direct will be that route is defined by your ability. Parkour is very individual. First year or two you should stick only to ground level. You've probably seen some crazy videos on youtube thinking how amazing it is and how you would never be able to do that. You have to realize that those guys on videos practiced it for many years every day to get to that level ("founder" David Belle practiced parkour for around 15 years). Parkour isn't about flips and jumping from rooftop to rooftop. Parkour is all about fast and efficient movement. Everybody can do that

It does look really good but I doubt I would be able for it. It would be neat to be able to move like that. Good luck in your future training my friend

I want to lose weight, but I kind of just figure that will happen on it's own. I know that I can't really cut calories otherwise I won't have the fuel I need. I mostly train so that I can run faster and farther.

I started to lose weight. I had always HATED exercise before. It was what I considered a necessary evil to reach a desired result. A thinner body. I grew to love how exercise made me feel and look. I then started experimenting with new exercise forms to find what I like best for a hobby. I like to run, though recently burned out on it. I want to run a marathon by the end of 2010 now. I want to be stronger and muscularly defined. I think that's sexy and I'd love to feel sexy :) I sound so vain lol. I guess in this post I am trying to outline that I have many reasons to exercise and train. Ultimately I want to feel great, do greater more challenging things (marathon), and look sensational.

I have mixed feelings about parkour videos. It's ok to post a video to ask the more experienced traceurs (people who do parkour) but I hate to see guys bringing cameras to training and making videos with French rap playing in the background even they don't understand a single word from it:P When I first started it with my friend we were filming a lot. But we didn't really know what parkour is then. It was more about fooling around and acrobatics. I haven't filmed anything in the last 3 years since I don't have a camera and I don't like the way in which parkour community went. Too much showing off, everyone has to have a video and they spend more time on parkour forums online than training. It made sense in the beginning because it was a new thing and you couldn't really learn about it elsewhere because hardly anyone knew about it but I don't understand why they're still sticking with it.

I have been working since a litlle while now and it has not always been for the same reasons, but more for the same objectives. When I began, I wanted to lose some fat, in fact I weighted about 60 pounds over my normal weight, I was 220lbs. So for about 6 months, I burned, cutted and took off that unwanted fat. After that, my goal was to get more muscle defintions for summer, so I trained to get defintion and nice cuts. Now I'm working out to get bigger and more propotionate. Over all, I train like a natural bodybuilder and I can say that the results are pretty amazing, I used to wear 36 (in pants size) and now I am at 31 my arms took 4 inches and my chest is a mass of muscle, not of fat like before. So I basicly trained to change my appearance and to feel better with myself. Now I continue because it makes me feel relaxed and everything seems more fun. I enjoy life more than ever, thanks to the iron.
