Would you consider a charity in your will? email this discussion to a friend?

I don't actually have a will - what I own will go to my husband. If we ever have kids, I might make a will.

But if you have a will - would you consider giving some of your worldly belongings to a charity? If yes, to whom and why?

If not, is that because you think your family rather needs the money or because you don't believe in a specific cause?

I believe in specific causes but at this point in time, I barely have anything TO GIVE! And I would trust that my family would know where I'd like to send certain things. But I would always give my family first-pick, that's for sure. For example, we always donate our clothes to a non-profit organization called ARC - but that's not something I would need to write in the will, because obviously if my sister likes a pair of jeans of mine - she should get the first pick. And other than my clothes, I really don't have any "worldly possesions", as you say, unfortunately. So at this point in time - no, I wouldn't include a charity on my will (In fact I don't even HAVE a will!) but maybe at a later date, when I have more to give!

Sounds like a reasonable approach to the topic. The money might be more important to your family, but there might be things they won't have use for, but would be useful for a charity. Thanks for the comment.

I believe in many causes but in my country it is expensive to make a will if you don´t have much to give. By law my children will have most of what I have but 1/4 I can will to anyone. I don´t think it´s worth it as I´m not richlol. So my two girls will have all my belongings half each one. I have given (and I´m giving) certain things to one or the other or to my grandaughter. But they are not interested in most of my belongings so I suppose they will be sold. I have a few good paintings but they are not the kind they like.
As for charities, I don´t believe in charity. I believe in love and respect and I have taught my girls to respect other human beings. I give when I can if I feel it´s needed.
I always give beyond my means to children with cancer in memory of my granson Tomás. But it won´t be in any will.
Take care!

Thanks for the comment. Making a will certainly isn't cheap, so it's is worthwhile considering if it is worth doing one or not.
