I just had to delete as a friend someone who checked an interest in the "Roles I Play" Category, but was not that interest. In fact, that person wanted to get those who were of that interest to doubt themselves and to become like him. I might say that I have had invites from myLotters who are Muslims, Wicca, Atheists, Jews, etc. or whatever, and usually I say yes, because well they often have interests that I am interested in. For instance, they may love dogs, have a family, love to cook, love to write, etc. But since I am not of their beliefs, I will never check that interest. In fact, it would be best to check "religion" rather then that particular belie. So the question is, should there be another category added for those who are interested in something, but do not exactly do that whatever it is?

I think they have to many sub catagories.
Its hard to figure out why you need a sub one when the first one should do.
And I am sure I have all differnt cuklters on here too.
I just like to talk to the people most are very interesting.
Sorry ya had to do that.

Well if you look at the category, there is one that says "Roles I play in life," it does not say "roles I played in life" or "roles I hope to play in life," or "roles I am curious about," but "roles I play in life," and that means in the present. So someone from a different culture who happens to be a Muslim would not check Christianity as a role that someone plays in life when that person considers Mohammed as their ideal and Allah as their God. I do not mind someone who is anti-Christian posting on the Religion topic because well Atheism is considered a religion.

I agree with the points you have made here Suspenseful.
It is a lie to check "Roles I play" and one has to wonder why a person would do it.

I have some interests checked that I'm not directly involved in but that I'd like to learn about. The more I can learn and discuss, the more interesting life is! I agree that general religion is better to check than individual beliefs--I think we all believe in the same God but we just have different rules and a few differing points of procedures or rites.

I think I have religion also checked up as well as Christianity and that is because I may want to learn about other beliefs (one of the characters in my novel may be some other belief) but I would never check one that I am not nor intend to be. So I think religion covers it all as well as life. It makes it easier and we do not know if there are some here who join a particular group to bad mouth it and maybe when they hear that so and so has quit that belief and find out their real name that they are jumping up and do with joy.

[b]Dragon, actually, that's not true. There are many different (often opposing!) "gods." Clearly this is so, or we'd all get along a lot better! Different religions have different dogmas, goals, different ideas about who God is (or isn't--recall: Atheism is a religion, & to an Atheist, they are their own god), or for some, who the gods are.
It's easy for people to say what you said, but frankly, it reveals they have little knowledge of religion. Ignorance isn't evil, but it is curable, & should be cured. I suggest, for the sake of intellectual honesty, if not for the fate of your soul, that you educate yourself. You're in for an amazing revelation; have fun learning!

When I started to learn about the Reformed faith, I knew there was only one God, the God of the Bible, and that Allah, the Greek, Roman, Norse, and other gods were not God but were invented by man. Also those religions might have different rules - for instance, one may believe that only women who wear blue dresses go into heaven (yes I am being fastidious) and others believe that to be faithful, you should be a vegan. So what if you believe that only vegans go to heaven and someone believes only meat eaters go to heaven? Both cannot be right. Therefore there is only one right way. And if that man felt he was the right way, he should have entered his own belief as his interest or stuck to general religion.

Everyone has opinons about everything, but isn't actively involved in those things. One example for me would be politics. I have my opinions of politics, but I'm not particularly a fan of politics.
It would be great if a new area could be created for such things, then people would see we have opinions about such topics, without being actively involved.

That would be a good idea. Sometimes we are just curious and want to find out about another person's religion. For instance, if I expect someone to come to my house for a steak dinner, and I want to make sure it is not the day when their religion forbids eating meat. Or if some one is writing an article about a certain devotee of a belief going to prayers at a certain time and he or she does not want the ones of that faith getting angry with him. So a curious interest would be perfect.

hi suspenseful when I have doubts as where to put my discussion rather than want a category like you suggest I usually put it under life as life covers a great many categories and you will get more responses too that way. I do not go to the extreme of checking out others interests as I think that is being really 'pretty nit picky.that is just my opinion. I just do not care'
what religion or beliefs anyone has as long as they are civil and c ourteous and do not flame or insult me.

I think life or religion is a good category because life covers everything and religion covers every religion. I usually accept everyone who asks to be my friend, but then when I want friends in a certain category, like all dog lovers or all writers, or more often Christians or church goers, I will look through a few of their discussions to see whether they are of that particular interest or whether - well I used to watch a whole lot of World War Ii films and some were about spies and saboteurs. Oh and I do not like flames.

[b]Sure...but you get to name it.
I mean, what would you call something like that? "Other?" "Catch-all Drawer?" "Never On A Sunday?"
Just out of curiosity, what was the subject he misused?

He was taking the verses of the Bible out of context, you know the one where the disciples say "we are unprofitable servants," without knowing that even though they did what they had to do with no expectation of reward, that they would be rewarded by sitting with Christ in Heaven - something regular servants would not have been allowed to do and he went on saying that his non-Christian belief was much better and that Christians were fools, etc. theusual ungodly insults. If he had had more time he probably would have increased the insults - make us all to be child abusers, etc.
As for the suggestion, I would think that "Roles I want to Know more about" would be a good heading. For instance, I might be curious about lets say, Axe Murderers' even though I do not intend to be one myself or want to know about vegans if I am writing a book about how to distinguish vegans from vegetarians. That way no one would feel obligated since they are curious.
But really I would have expected that the man put it under religion.

I wish they would have an ignore button. It would make it easier since he is obviously insulting anyone who is a Christian and trying to turn people from the faith.

[b]Yeah, it's what I figured. He definitely falls into my "Ignore" category. He's just here to stroke his ego. If he continues, & gets more abusive, you could report him, 'cause that's a TOSable offense.... You know, AOL has an actual "Ignore" button. When you really don't want to have your screen cluttered up by abuse or just stupid stuff, it's a step short of trying to get someone TOSed, & allows you to be rid of the junk anyhow. Too bad MyBot doesn't have something similar.
I'm just sayin'...
