Daylight Saving Time |
|
In case nobody has told youall yet, I would like to remind everybody that daylight saving time goes off this Saturday Night. We need to wind our clocks back an hour. Remember the saying "spring forward, fall back". This has always been the easiest way for me to remember which way to wind it. We were reminded of this last Sunday Morning at worship. We were also reminded of it at Wednesday Night bible study. This is so we wouldn't be late for church the next morning. I would like to know how youall feel about daylight saving time. I've had to deal with it all my life but at the same time, I like the longer days. I have things I have to do outside, like feeding my horse, for example, and I just don't like for it to get dark so early. I just go earlier every year. Kathy.

1. drannhh (7397) | 1 month ago | Kathy, here in Arizona we do not have daylight savings time. However, across the river in Nevada and California they do. So I will have to remember if I meet friends for lunch that the time is one hour different at the restaurant than at home.

cyrus123 (1678) | 1 month ago | Hi drannhh! I didn't know youall didn't have DST in Arizona. I thought everybody all over the U.S. had it. You learn something new all the time. Well, at least you don't have to deal with the time change every year. What part of Arizona are you in? Arizona has always been one of my favorite states. I think it's beautiful out there. I especially like the Grand Canyon. I've seen it three times. I was just 4 years old the first time I saw it so I don't remember very much about that trip. I saw it again when I was 9 and then, again, when I was 35. I have also been to Tucson, Yuma, and Tombstone, Arizona. Oh yes, I almost forgot to mention that I have been to Phoenix, too. I was 12 years old when my parents, two oldest nephews, and I were in Tucson. We were on our way to California and we decided to spend two nights there because daddy wanted to rest up from driving so much. While we were there, we went to "Old Tucson" and we just had a great time! Kathy.

drannhh (7397) | 1 month ago | I am in the Tri-State area so if I drive across one bridge it is Nevada time and across the other it is California. So half of the year it is the same time on both sides of the river and the other half we are an hour later. If we meet someone from out of town at the restaurant and somebody gets the time mixed up we are fortunately an hour early rather than an hour late, so we nearly always meet friends on the other side.
We are 75 miles from the Grand Canyon by air, but a bit further by car, but I have not actually been there yet! Probably the next time I go to Sedona (and Oak Creek Canyon, which I love!) I will take a little detour up to the Grand Canyon at least as far as the South Rim.

|
cyrus123 (1678) | 1 month ago | That's interesting about you living in the tri-state area. At least, if you go to a restaurant in the area where the time is the same, you don't have to worry about whether you're late or not or if they're fixing to close. Kathy.

|
|
drannhh (7397) | 1 month ago | That has happened a few times, but the other nice thing about this area is that it because of the resort casinos in the area, there are many businesses that stay open 24-hrs, and especially restaurants. It is a small-town atmosphere in many ways, but they do not roll the sidewalks up after dusk. Not here:-)

2. learn2earn (10564) | 1 month ago | Well, it's good to know that in your place, you are practicing daylight saving time or following such clock. In my country, there are no daylight saving time today. I have experienced during the mid 80's that our President declared a daylight saving time to conserve electricity. After her term, the following president abolished the practice of having daylight saving time.

cyrus123 (1678) | 1 month ago | So you like daylight saving time, right? I believe I do, too. Like I said in my discussion, I like the longer hours because it gives me time to do the things I need to do outside. I wish we could keep DST, myself. However, I've had to deal with the time change all my life and I wouldn't know what to do if we didn't have it. It's too bad that your new president abolished DST. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

3. lelin1123 (4273) | 1 month ago | I love getting an extra hour of sleep but I don't like it to get dark so early. The day is so short to me then. During the spring and summer the daylight is so long and I love it. Not to mention you save on electricity by not having to put the lights on so early. I would give up the hour of sleep to have extra light and not have to use the lights in the house so early.

GardenGerty (20250) | 1 month ago | With my son staying with us the lights are never off at our house. He is a night owl, I am a lark, and hubby works a mid shift. No hope for us.

|
cyrus123 (1678) | 1 month ago | I'm a night owl, myself, so my lights are on all the time pretty much, too. I always have been a night owl. My house is dark without lights no matter what time of day it is. I keep my drapes closed winter and summer because it helps me to save on my heat and air bill. I have big windows in the living room, dining room, and den and it makes a difference. Kathy.

4. pergammano (1964) | 1 month ago | Good morning, Kathy! Daylight Savings Time, is a proverbial pain in my body clock! And that's mainly because I am a morning person! I think I would be happier living in the "Land of the Midnight Sun" or Northern Norway! I guess I am just a Daylight person. Like you, it throws a real wrinkle in my evening chores...I find I have to quit work earlier so that I can get them done!
I am so envious of you, having a horse! I sold my last horse, about 8 years ago..sort of a forced sale, as there was nothing that could confine him, NO fence of any form, so each time he escaped my fine from the Animal Control Officer increased! The irony of it all was I purchased him from the Animal Control Officer, and because there was always horses at that farm...thats where he went! So to get back to DST, all my riding was in the early morning hours (like 4-5 a.m.) so this time change always brings back those memories! Have a great one, Kath!

cyrus123 (1678) | 1 month ago | I know what you mean about dealing with horses that get out all the time ! We had to deal with that a lot when we had a bunch of horses years ago. I had a horse that I raised from a foal that died in 2007 and at one point, he got to where he could open the gate and get out. He lived to be 34 years old, btw. Horses can be a real pain sometimes but I still enjoy them. I haven't had much of a problem with the horse I have now getting out and I hope I never do. My nephew gave him to me not long before the other horse died. However, I'm not going to keep him because he's a stud horse and he's a little too unpredictable. My nephew is going to swap him out for an older horse for me, maybe a mare. Anyway, I used to go out at 6:00 in the moring to ride a few times and I really enjoyed that time of day. That was in the summer several years ago. It really is nice to watch the sun come up. I'm really not a morning person, myself, so most of the time I rode after supper. In the meantime, I volunteer at a therapeutic riding center called "EASI" (Equines Assisting Special Individuals). What we do is, we teach children with disabilities and some who don't have disabilities how to ride horseback. It's so much fun! I'm on the drill team out there and that gives me a horse to ride. If you would like to check out our website, the link is: http://www.easi.webs.com. . The last time I looked, my picture still wasn't on there. However, I ride the big Palomino they have out there named "Yellow". Getting back to DST, you mentioned living in the land of the midnight sun. I got to thinking after I started this discussion that I have a cousin who lives in Alaska. I wonder how she nad her husband fare (not sure if that's spelled right) during the time change. Kathy.

5. GardenGerty (20250) | 1 month ago | Personally, I wish they would leave the clocks alone. I tend to get up when it is light, and get sleepy when it is dark. I have always worked either with children, the elderly or the mentally handicapped, and it is a difficult thing to make that transition for all three of those populations. By the time they get really used to it, it is time to change again.

cyrus123 (1678) | 1 month ago | Hi GardenGerty! Like I said, I wish we could just keep the longer days, myself. It would give me time to do the things I need to get done outside. I can imagine it's a real hastle on the people you work with, though. It's something we've had to deal with all our lives, though, and I couldn't imagine what it would be like not having it. I've been meaning to tell you this for quite sometime but I really do like your new avatar. Thank you for responding and have a great night. Kathy.

9. yuna15 (1122) | 1 month ago | I am not from the United States but I'm very much aware of the Daylight Savings Time because my work schedule is based on the US since a work for a call center based in the U.S. It's actually a good thing for me because my work now starts at 5am instead of 4am. I've only known about DST when I worked as tech support in my company.

cyrus123 (1678) | 1 month ago | 5:00 a.m. would be a little too early for me to start work. 4:00 a.m. would be even worse. I know you are happy to get that extra hour of sleep. I have had to report to a job at 6:00 a.m. and that was pretty rough. That was only a temporary job, though. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

If it hadn't have been for them, I might have forgotten. I really didn't know when daylight saving time was going off and I'm glad they told us. They do this every year and I think it's a good thing. Thank you for responding and have a great night. Kathy.
