We are all affected by this global economic downturn. It has seen many big organizations collapsed leaving many people redundant and unemployment is getting out of hands. Many properties have gone under the harmer for failing to meet the monthly commitments. The banks have no mercy on people who are being badly hit by this worsening economic situation. The banks provide umbrellas during sunshine but takes them away when there is thunderstorm. That is the game of the bank. No one can help anyone as everyone seems to be in the same dilemma. Don't you feel the pinch of the current situation? I have longed been pushed to the limits and is now surviving on my reserved as my business is very slow and I don't see it picking up that too soon. People are careful spenders now and they no longer spend unnecessarily especially on entertainment. I am badly hit as I am in the entertainment line of business.
But all is not lost. If this economic downturn is the result of human errors God is still merciful on those who keep knocking and asking. I could have been driven to obscurity if my prayers have not been answered. Finally, a company has eyed my land and is developing it into a beautiful housing estate on a joint venture basis. I am so thankful that I could now breath a sigh of relieve knowing that this would be the beginning to an end on all my miseries. If it has not been this disastrous economy I wouldn't have opened my eyes wide to reach the light at the other end of the tunnel. It is indeed a blessing in disguise. Has the present scenario changed your present economic status? Good or bad what ever.

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji,
I would strongly view that you are very lucky person. May luck shower more. At the same time, this recession has never botehred us. We always spend cautiosly earlier as well. Also as we maintain our dail/monthly/yearly expenses in writing, we reveiw each time to balane our budget. Your discussion topic goes with saying that, 'ONE'S MEAT OTEHR'S POISON'. Remember, Nights will never remain, Sun will emerge out and sallow darkness. Let's wait for good time.
May God bless YOu and have graet time.

Hello my friend zandi458 Ji,
We both were working before marriage. Afetr the marriage, my hubby told taht we are with Nil money and I ave to emain house-wife, as per family traditions and a great will of my In-Laws, we always prepaed a budget and saved 5-10% for the rainy days as 'Aunts' save for themselves. So we nevr faced such problem and remained debt free. Only we remember to compare iourselves with down troddens as they live.
Wishing you a very happy Chrismas and New Year-2010.
May God bless You and have a great time.

This world is a mess I agree. And a lot of people are losing there jobs or have lost them already. My mother in law and father in law both have lost there jobs and don't have work. It is very hard now a days to stay a float. Banks never care what you are going through as long as you have there money they are happy and if you don't you are out of luck. It is hard for people to get jobs around here where we live at. One of my daughters got lucky and got hired at McDonald's and she is raising a child on her own with that low paying job and trying to pay rent on top of that.

So do I. I totally agree with you. We need our jobs to make a living. I never seen things get so bad when it comes down to jobs. People barely make ends meet if at all anymore. Everyone needs to feed there families and have a roof over there head to stay warm.

I am glad u have gotten help to your problem. I know alot of people are struggling. I do think when people live above their means they get in trouble & i think alot of people have done this. U need to always think anout the rainy days because they will come along. I have not been as affected as alot of people because i have always had to live pretty frugally.

there will good that will come out of this situation if we will try to look or find ways to turn this bad events to out advantage . if we don't do any thing things will really affect us negatively and this will surely be nothing good to us at all.
it is not easy to make good out of situation like this but it is possible. if we well on the positive that we will not feel so sorry or desperate during these desperate times. i feel little sad but not totally affected by this economic downturn as i don't really depend on money much these days. i am easily get contented with little money i have. so i don't get bother much. as long as the prices of food are still affordable and there will still be enough supply of food and life can still be normal i don't get worried financially that much nowadays. i though money or economic downturn will be the cause of most worry in life. thankfully our happiness does not really depend on money.

Hopefully something good will come out of this bad situation. The future is always so unclear and hazy, while the pain we're experiencing in the present moment is so sharp and unmistakable. That's why cliches like 'look at the bright side' or 'every cloud has a silver lining' can be off putting and even slightly nauseating when we hear them. Somehow along the line, human beings noticed that bad things can give way to good things or even lead to them. In fact, if it weren't for the bad experiences, the failures, the humiliations, the tragedies, sometimes the very best experiences in our lives would never have occurred. These challenges we face in our life.

as of now i don't remember any good things that came out of those bad experiences or situation. i wish that i was able to turn those bad events in my life before around so that i have a better life now. seems like that i will not see any good things to happen in my life as it seems more bad things are coming my way. ;and the only way to see some good things to come my way is to do something like to turn things around for my good. so i need to work hard for it. the only thing that keeps me putting off to make things turn for my good is how lonely it is to change things around. it is not easy and very lonely experience.

Your so very lucky, my friend. God, heard you prayer and you should not forget that to continuously receive blessings from God...
I don't understand how bankers and big companies erroneously define economics downturn...I can't see any honest mistake on this situation because if you look upon their pocket they live gratuitously and fruitfully and seems they are not aware of this happen...All government in the world must penalized those culprits for this situation did not happen again...
You are lucky my friend. Because you have your own business but how about those unemployed that is affected of this economic downturn are they survive or be employed again?

Although the value of my house has gone down I will be able to reach the current cost of a bungalow. I need to move because my son has spina bifida and hydrocephalus. He will need a downstairs bedroom and bathroom. Prices of houses are currently low enough to be able to afford.
I have had a baby girl born to me this year. The economic downturn has led so some buy one get one free deals of baby's clothing. It has led to some good deals on children's toys.
Even though we are in an economical downturn I still have been able to afford to travel to South Africa. I am still planning to go to Canada next year. I really love traveling and it is an essential activity for me. Sadly some airlines have ceased trading in this recession so I have to make sure I get an excellent coverage on my travel insurance.

It is time to buy properties when the prices arl below the market price. Property prices in my place has not been reduced but instead the increasing building materials have forced the developers to increase their prices. It is never cheap buying properties in my country but still properties are selling like hotcakes as the population is increasing rapidly and houses are in demand. Nice to know that you are still economically able to go globetrotting during this recession time.

zandi hi well for me and my son so far this horrid depression has been an unmitigated disaster,he lost his job, we ran out of money and had to stay with friends, as we were evicted, so when my son talked to this social worker from adult protective service and told him we were homeless with no money, and he was worried about me. I am 83, and a little handicapped, and he knew this going about trying to find shelter was beginning to wear on me. so now I am in this retirement center while he got into gov.sponsored apartment with three other men all out of work, so they had a place to live while they hunt for jobs. so no so far it is not a blessing it broke up my little family, me here and my son three miles away. I would not say this is a good thing to not have your own apartment and not be able to cook your own meals and care for yourself. and be free like always. it is a place to stay for now but I want to be back in our own apartment again as soon as my son gets a job and makes some money ahead.

I am sorry to hear that you are not in a very conducive environment. Life happens and bad luck do hit anyone of us at anytime. Life is a circle like a football. Sometimes we are at the peak and when it rolls we land ourselves at the bottom. But it will not remain at the bottom forever as it will revolve to bring us up again. Hopefully, in your case, you will be back where you belong and be reunited with your son again. I pray that everything goes well with you.

Maybe yes and not. You are lucky indeed as you find this economic downturn as a blessing as in your situation the after effect is reverse. in my own observation every sectors in the economy is affected by this global recession. The most affected are those people who live below the poverty level and even those in the middle to upper class feel this sting. I could say that because of this economic impact i learn to live in frugal lifestyles which I have not yet use to experience during the past years. I learn to be spend thrift and buy only those items which is a need and not just a wants. I learn to saves a lot and hence I manage to survives. Then, create my own opportunity if their is no opportunity which i am better of and could set my own earning with no limit for helping in the family business.

I have been living 'below par' for years without
proper meals. I normally bring my son to eat lunch
while I will be in the supermarket looking around
for any free samples to fill the stomach
he is a growing up child, therefore need proper meal
before go to school.
Due to economy downturn, this restaurant that I brought
my son for lunch there, has promotion. Buy one free one!
It is truly a blessings as now whenever I brought my son
there, I had a free meal too
It is truly a blessing :)

Just as the downturn hit, I fell into a better income than I have had in years and more stability, hubby too. We are paying down debt.I probably do not get paid what I am worth, but I get paid!
Our home has not been at risk. There are others in my family suffering, but we can help them.
I feel sorry for others, but can help them survive.

It is the right time for the investors, and the seller(property) is the looser, this economic crisis has united the society and the family members, during boom period everybody used to be busy(act busy), but, now they have time to spend and they share their joy and sorrows with their friends, nearest and dearest ones. This global recession has taught us that love and relation is important than materialistic things, and really contributed to human faith and love.

Well, I guess if I must look for the silver lining to this cloud I would have to say that finding a way to make a living that leaves me in control of when and how long I work was a blessing.
I began to look for ways to do this when I realized I was no longer able to work a steady job that kept me at work every day for 8 to 10 hours. I could do it but usually I would only last a month before I was in too much pain to continue. Even less if I had to stand on my feet.
If the economy hadn't been so bad I would probably just have quit working and tried to live on my disability but there is not enough money in that check to pay my rent let alone other expenses. So I serched for something I could do and found this great job that I do love.

I think you are doing justice not only to your economic welfare but also to your overall self. It would be boring life to be left redundant at home with nothing to do day in and day out with the four walls staring at us. Working in what ever capacity keeps the mind and body active. I am already thinking deeply what will I do if I stop running the pub that am doing now. Pub business is no longer conducive to people of my age so most likely am going to pass over the business to a younger person as I am already running out of steam with the pub business. Neither would I want to sit around the computer to fill my time. I need to look for something where I can move around more.

I am glad things are turning well for you, unluckily they are not turning well for everyone affected by recession, wish there were more stories like yours but I fear those are 'exceptions'.
