So Halloween has now come and passed and with it are the bags full of candy that our children have gathered.
After our children went to bed this evening my husband and I raided their candy bags for the treats that we love. So, my question to you is what kind of chocolate would you steal from your child's candy bag? Do you keep special consideration to save the ones that they like for them or do you think that since you are the parent it is your right to be able to partake as well?
Tell me your stories about chocolate. Love it, hate it? Binge? I just want to hear.

You are too funny!! Well, this year there seemed to be a lot of chocolate duplicates . . . so if one or two were missing, it's possible my little one wouldn't notice anyway - ha ha!
The bummer is I currently have gestational diabetes, so I don't get any candy or chocolate until after the baby is born (I suppose I can steal and stash it). But IF I were to take any, I'd definitely take the mini Snickers or peanut M&M's. The next ones in line would be Twix, KitKat, Crunch, Baby Ruth, Butterfingers, then Hershey's.
My daughter is mostly willing to share anyway, so we probably don't need to steal any. She'll let Daddy pick what he wants. She'll ask me if I want any treats, but she knows I will always say that I can't. When we went trick or treating last night, she gave Daddy a piece . . . and then for the fun of it, I actually tried to take one too. She said "Um, mommies with babies in their tummies can't have any" - ha ha.
I think it's a good idea to teach kids how to share (a 4 year old especially), so I'd rather her be the one willing to give us the candies. But hey, if we felt like a midnight snack, a chocolate or 2 missing from the bag wouldn't make us feel guilty . . . afterall, we can always go to the store and get some more, right?
Hope you and your family enjoyed Halloween!!

What a bummer to have gestational diabetes. I was lucky to never have to deal with that during my pregnancies. My children will also share their candy to a certain extent, but on the other side of things, I don't think that they share it fairly.
What I mean is if I ask my three-year-old for a piece of candy he will probably give me something that I don't like. However, earlier in the week after the kids went to a Halloween party, they had candy and Paul and my niece that I babysit would lay in the living room floor with the candy stash and he was actually sharing with her.

I think as far as the GD thing went, I may have been borderline in a certain sense. My blood sugars normally run very low so it would take a lot more of a spike in my blood sugar levels to trigger the alert for gestational diabetes.
It looks like you are due then right around my daughter's birthday, actually a little bit before it I suppose. My cousin's wife, who has juevenile diabetes is expecting her first one in three weeks as well. I will keep you all in my thoughts.

Last night I saw my husband take a piece of candy from my daughter's bag - right in front of her - and she didn't even flinch - hee hee. So I guess it must be ok with her (at this age, for now - ha ha). Yah, I know kids tend to share the stuff they don't want . . . they're pretty tricky, eh?
Yah, GD is annoying to have. But I survived - only 3 weeks or so to go - and I was able to control it with diet and exercise alone (no insulin!). You are fortunate you didn't have it . . . I wonder if it's because you had your kids much younger than I did.
When I have my first chocolate bar after our baby is born, I'm gonna think of you!

I certainly hoped that my husband and I were not the only parents that would sneak a candy from the children's candy bags. Thanks for your response.

hi dorannmwin, first i see you have such a happy family with cute kids. i am not married and have no kids. but i can imagine that how much fun you have on halloween. i like chocolate, but chinese chocolate is different from yours, chocolates here contain too much fat, and it is bad eating too much. my friends on abroad always taking back chocolates.

I never, ever claimed that eating chocolate was good for me. But I do have a certain sweet tooth and really do like to eat some sometimes. I do have to admit that the best chocolate that I've ever eaten was about two years ago when one of my internet friends visited the United States and sent me an envelope full of chocolate and candies from Germany. It was heavenly. Oh and then there was the Swiss chocolate that I bought when I traveled to Europe.
