Well, am still glad that I did not experience being laid off, it is because I never had experience to be hired in this country since I first came. Hahaha!! But am sure it is the same feeling when you are not hired and when you are laid off. I am tired of applying a job and never have one until now. I don't know when can I have one, what about you? what experience you can share about looking for job or being laid off, fired or hired? Just curious!!!!

Ha!ha!ha!You are funny! I hope you can find a job that suit your qualification soon! Well with me, I did not really experience having laid off in my job. I experienced resigning from my job but never being laid off. Now with my present job. I've been here for 28 years and God willing I'll stay here till I retire.

Well, I am very fine when i was yet in our country my friend, I have a good job but when I migrate here? I am having a hard time because I am scared to drive and here if you can't drive? you can't go to work? and besides, You need to get a state license in whatever degree you have in order to fit in to their qualification. Most of the Filipinos who are here? are not working in their line of work. They work as CNA most of them, wiping the butt of the old people in the nursing home which I can't do. But hopefully in the coming months I can have my driver's license and started to work.. hahaha... what a hard thing when you are not in your own place.

Yes, I believe so too, it is harder when you are in another country and for me there is no better place to stay than here in the Philippines. Yes, this country is not as rich as America but life is here is far easier and happier.

Hello Bebs. I have not had such an experience of being laid off. I think that it is not a good feeling to get laid off. Every year some of our colleagues get laid off. Just this year there were some of them. I have heard that some of the laid off of my colleagues are still home either doing something else or trying to get another job for next school semester. I feel that I am lucky compared with my laid-off colleagues. I wish them to find another job very soon with very good luck.

You are very lucky indeed for not being counted as one of those who lost their jobs. Maybe you are a good worker. am sure it is not a good feeling. Here in America, there are lots of people who were laid off every every now and then but the good thing in here is that, they can receive unemployment check from the government once they were laid off? Good thing!! this does not happen in other countries I think?

I lost my job due to budget cuts a little over a year ago. The funny part was that I was the person responsible for my company's budget and my boss and I worked hard in order to meet the demands of the parent company. Then we worked hard redoing it two times. The last time she met with them she didn't come storming into my office for another redo so I thought that we were in the clear. Then she called me into her office and told me that my position had been cut. I looked for something else locally because I'm not driving for over an hour to get to a job but there's nothing so my husband and I opened our own business. I like working for myself a lot better than working for someone else.

Oh!! that is blessing in disguise. i wish I can have my own business too so that I will not be having problems dealing with people on the job. You are lucky to have your own business in which you are the boss. I like that.

I work as an employment specialist and have met dozens of people laid off and wondering what comes next for them. It is so important to maintain that attitude that life is an adventure and when you fall off one train, you have to dust yourself off and look to hop on another. Thanks for the discussion.

wow! I like that attitude, when you fall off one train, dust yourself and prepare to hop another? Very positive attitude that should be the attitude we should have in this tough situation we are in.

Luckily, I have not been laid off too. The company I work for has already shed almost 60% of its manpower since December of 2008. The small department which I belonged to originally had six people. Now, there are only 3 of us including my manager. If there is another layoff coming, I am for sure the next in line, as I am the most junior. I have been trying to find another job. Another one that could offer a lot more job security. Unfortunately, no luck.

Oh congratulations that you are not yet laid off.. I bet even if you are a junior you are still on the job? but yes, it is always safe to find a reserve before you will be out of job. I know it is hard to find one.. But God will provide.

No I quit my job, because they were killing making me work way harder than in the past 12 hours no break night shift is killer, I was getting back problems and missing work anyways, because they were pushing me so much, and my shift was short handed but when someone else called for overtime help we were expected to rush from home to help, when we never got any help. So no I told my boss off and quit, in hindsight wish I had got fired cause I can't get unemployment, what I should have done is call Osha on their as*, but I didn't still makes me angry to think about it.

I luckily haven't been laid off at all, due to the economy. Back in August my husband and I moved for his job (he is now doing his post-doc.) So that meant me quiting my job back home and finding a new one in this new town. It was difficult. It took me about a month to find a job, but it could have been much worse! I feel very fortunate to have the jobs I have now and my online earnings.
