Unknown folders in the C drive email this discussion to a friend?

In my C drive two folders with the name, 637c1166bfb18d42da1dca41 and e493765188348a8534e0d3242d are avaialble and I don't know how it came there. I am sure, it is not created by us. I suspect that they might be created by some virus. I am not able to delete them..If we try to delethe these folders, I used to get the message of "can not delete .dll. access denied" . What are these folders and how to delete them? How they are affecting our system if they were created by the virus?

I'm unsure exactly what those two folders are, but there is a good chance that since they are just located in the C: Drive, they could be important windows system folders. I would do a lot of research on the folders through google or a virus database website. If a folder isn't deletable it means it is serving some function to a necessary program (whether that function is good or bad depends on whether a virus is overriding windows commands).

All the best.

myLot reputation of 85/100. knrsekar (487)   ranked 163 out of 5,805 in computer  2 months ago

Still I am not sure of these two folders..I have one more system with the same programs installed as like my laptop. But in the C drive of the another system, there is no such folder and also in the above folders, I am able to two more sub folders..One has been named as i386..I think this is a system file, while installing The O.S,if our CD is corrupter even a little, then the process will not continue and we need to insert another one. These corrupted folders or files may be stored in these folders. The scanning process with my AVG anti virus software is not finding anything about these folders and of course, it is saying, that no threats identified on scanning...I suspect these folders may be a spy ware program. That's why I want to delete them..But still I am not able to delete them..Possibly I will do it very soon.

The "dll" part stands for "dynamic link library". That does not say anything about exactly what is contained in the folder. Have you tried to open the folders? If so, what is in them? It is not a good idea to delete files or folders on your C drive without knowing what they contain. Maybe they contain something malicious but they may be a vital part of your operating system (which is why Windows refused to delete them). If you open the folder and fine files in it that you do not recognize, Google can be your best friend. Search for the name of a file and you may find out what it is. If you are unable to identify the files, do not open anything that ends in .exe. That is a program file and it will try to do--something. You do not know what it was created to do so leave it alone.

myLot reputation of 85/100. knrsekar (487)   ranked 163 out of 5,805 in computer  2 months ago

I am able to open the folders and inside the folder there are two more folders available with the name amd64 and i386.(In both of the main folders) In site each sub folders there are 7 files available in each of the sub folders. Most of the are having the extension of .dll and some are .ppd/.gpd..As I don't have these folders in my other system, I suspect these folders may be the spyware programs. But as like you have mentioned, I will try to know about the files with the help of google, and then I will try to delete then if I find them as virus or unnecessary files. As both the folders are having exactly the same content,I think that the folder is duplicating itself..No change their size, number of files. All are same and equal.let me google the file names to know about them. Thanks for your response and suggestions.

If these folders are not in the windows directory then they are nothing to do with your windows build and if there are files that are access denied then this usally points to a virus. I had a similar problem a few years ago and I was able to delete the files/folders by downloading a program that would force a delete of a file. If you have installed o downloaded something recently then they are more than likely to be related to this.

myLot reputation of 85/100. knrsekar (487)   ranked 163 out of 5,805 in computer  2 months ago

NO..These folders are not in windows folder and they are available in the drive as like program file folders. In side both of the folders, there are two folders in the name of i 386 and amd64.. Inside these two, 7 files are there and among the 7, the two files are not able to be deleted. Even if some of them get deleted, they used to come back within few minutes.I don't know about the program or software to install which will force the folders to get deleted.Let me search in google and find the software..At least hereafter, we can delete them if not necessary. Thanks for your response .

myLot reputation of 85/100. knrsekar (487)   ranked 163 out of 5,805 in computer  2 months ago

I have installed AVG anti virus software which is capable of identifying the malware also.It is not showing any threat even after scanning the particular two folders..I think that I should scam with the some other anti virus software.I suspect these folders should contain some malware programs. If the folders are much important, then they will be available in the program files of the C drive. But these two are in the C drive only..There is no any link between the program files and them.I have decided to make the google search with the file names. If they are system files or harmless, then I will not try to delete them..Else, I am ready even for format the system,if deletion is not possible. Thanks for your response

If you delete that somehow, or even mess with them at all you can do serious harm to your pc, if you want to know for sure what it is go have it looked at.

Even if it is a virus you mess with it, and you fry your system that thing will be toast.

myLot reputation of 85/100. knrsekar (487)   ranked 163 out of 5,805 in computer  2 months ago

Some time,it may be an important file. But with this name, I am not having any folder in my other system. The second system is also having the same type of configuration and applications installed. There these folders are not available. While deleting them, only few files are moving from the folder and within few minutes, the are restoring its position again..I am not able to tolerate the activity of files..Hope I will delete them very soon, if they are threats. Thanks for sharing your view with the members.

Do not worry, reboot your computer in safe mode. Then try to delete the folders. If not try to scan the c drive with virus killer for kasbersky, rising, and you can try to run%temp% command from the start menu, then delete all the files in the temp folder.Good luck.

myLot reputation of 85/100. knrsekar (487)   ranked 163 out of 5,805 in computer  2 months ago

I am not able to run the system in the safe more. If I try to run it in the safe more,is showing some .dll files are missing (about 30-40 fiels) in a list and then after the running of the list, the system is restarting in the normal more instead of starting in the safe mode.I have scanned with the AVG anti virus software and no threat is found. I have also tried with the command prompt and some of the files seems to be hidden some other wrote protected.NOt able to delete them here also..Anyway, I will try to the best of my level. Thanks for your response .

Surely it is a system file, probably installation backup or some other backup made by windows

myLot reputation of 85/100. knrsekar (487)   ranked 163 out of 5,805 in computer  2 months ago

IF it is a system files, then they should be available in the other system also with the similar name?.But the case is not like so..Even this site don't have these folders earlier..There is no any executable files in the folders and I checked them with interest. As like some of the members are saying, they may be some temp files. If so, I will be happy and will not bother about them..As I am the active member of many on line sites, I don't like my account details to be collected bu the spyware programs, if available inside these folders. Thanks for your response.

Note sure if they're virus folders. But i have found such folders created by some softwares like antivirus, anti-malware as definition holding folders. They name their folders based on some numbers. It could be them. I can assure you that those are not system files as microsoft is not naming them in terms of numbers.

Now you can do one thing. You need to find out in which directory they're. If they're in system folder or windows folder or program files. Don't delete them. Instead find which software installed it. You can uninstall it using revo uninstaller. There is also UN+Delete software which can delete the files and folders which are not easily deletable.

myLot reputation of 85/100. knrsekar (487)   ranked 163 out of 5,805 in computer  2 months ago

These folders are not in the windows folder or in the program files..They are just located in the C drive as the separate folders..Both the folders are having similar sub folders and files inside the sub folders are same..If I want to tell in simple manner, they both are copy of each other with some other name. Now i am able to know some software that can be used to delete the files or folders that can not be deleted easily, from your response. Thanks for the useful information and let me try with these software..I am sure that they are not related with any of the software or applications installed in my system.Because these are available in the systems only in the recent days..Thanks for the information and the response.

these are dll files and they are harmless, i have them too, if you remove them you may do some damage to your pc, so just leave them where they are, if they are not interfering with your pc, just leave them....

myLot reputation of 85/100. knrsekar (487)   ranked 163 out of 5,805 in computer  2 months ago

If we know exactly that they are not harmful to the system, there is no problem in keeping them as such..If they some spyware programs, then our entire activity will be monitored and followed by the programmers..as I am active member of many on line earing sites, my account may be hacked easily..That's why I want to remove them ..Now it is not possible also..As per our one of the members suggestion, now I am downloading the Kaspersky anti virus software..After scanning, If I am not able to find anything, I will just format the system without considering anything.Because I don't like to take risk in that. Thanks for the response.

myLot reputation of 99/100. puddytatt (841)   ranked 2,922 out of 5,805 in computer  2 months ago

well if you don't feel comfortable with them there, remove them.

I suspect that these are file allocation table folders created by improper PC shutdown. These are file allocation tables, but I still suspect it. It happened to me once when suddenly a black out happened while my external device is plugged. When the electricity has gone back, windows offered to have my EHD scanned, but I refused until i saw such folders in it.

To resolve that, I just scanned my EHD with Tune-up Utility Disk Doctor. Then, it was gone.

You know scandisk and chkdisk? Maybee it will solve the problem if you don't own a Tune-up Utilities.

I have shut down the system many times for various reasons. When the system is hanging for a long time, I used to shut down forcibly many times..If the folders are like just the log files, then there will not be any problem and we can leave them as such..But it should be confirmed..My only expectation is that there should not be any spyware programs inside the computer..I have installed the anti virus software and also I am regularly updating them.My AV is not identifying anything..Now I am going to install some other anti virus software and after scanning, if nothing is identified, I need to format the system soon..I don't like to take risk in this issue. Thanks for your response.
