1. thea09 (4908) | 2 months ago | Hi bluespacker, do you mean like a calorie counter, I saw them do that on 'The Biggest Loser Australia' which I pick up through youtube and they have facilities now to keep an online journal to monitor calories. I've never done anything like this as I think that the best way of keeping the weight off is just to try and eat healthily and only indulge in the bad foods occasionaly rather than daily. A diet of processed or sugary food should be avoided as consistency is the key rather than yo yo dieting. The programme does show some really intersting facts though regarding the dreaded calories in foodstuffs one can underestimate such as an obscene amount of 8 spoonfuls of sugar in just one glass of coca cola. People should be more educated to avoid such empty calorific laden substances.

2. jb78000 (1925) | 2 months ago | well i don't need to lose weight so i haven't done this but it sounds like a good idea if you do because we all eat more than we think - i just thought through what i ate yesterday. my first reply would have been three meals but actually there were also: a packet of crisps, an extra lunch (just a sandwich), lots of orange juice, some fruit, and i ate more what i had for dinner much later in the evening. that is practically the same again in terms of calories.

blue65packer (1890) | 2 months ago | Most I should do this because I can be a 'mindless eater"! I will eat stuff doing the day and I won't realize just how much I eat or amount of what I ate. Then when I do I'm like "what was I thinking?" or "I shouldn't done that?". I also need to lose weight or least try to eat better! Not easy to do!

jb78000 (1925) | 2 months ago | i don't really believe in dieting, although i suppose if you are eating a lot of stuff for no reason then perhaps you should stop doing that. however i think exercise and perhaps changing (but not necessarily reducing) what you eat is the answer.

thea09 (4908) | 2 months ago | You'll be bigger than your rats soon if you carry on pigging out like that JB. Crisps are evil but the fruit was good.

jb78000 (1925) | 2 months ago | if i don't do enough exercise the worst that has ever happened is i put on about 1/2 a stone which disappears as soon as i stop living on the sofa again. as i just said i do not believe in dieting. and crisps are fine as part of a balanced diet - you need some fat.

thea09 (4908) | 2 months ago | It's been said enough that I don't know why it hasn't sunk in yet as its a fact 'dieting makes you fat'. People go round living on stupid packets of diet meals, lose some weight, go straight back to what they were eating before and put more on than they lost, then do it all again. People need to educated themselves about food. I'm like you jb, same weight for 30 years, but it drops if I'm sick then goes up to what it was.

jb78000 (1925) | 2 months ago | i probably could get fat if i ate when i wasn't hungry (my granny was and i take after her in lots of other ways physically) as it is i just eat what i feel like when i feel hungry and don't spend all day obsessing about calories or something equally interesting. diets never seem to work for the people that do them. they are also an incredibly boring topic of conversation.

4. stephcjh (22992) | 2 months ago | I do not do this at all. I have thought about doing it to try to keep track of my food intake also. I have a hard time when it comes to losing weight. I mainly eat what I want most of the time and try to exercise more.

6. khayshenz (1093) | 1 month ago | I keep a food journal online (caloriecounter.com) and I keep it for a good month or two - if I see a gain in weight or feel it, I guess. For me, I mainly use it for portion sizing. Once I get used to sizing the portions again - I back off from the calorie counter. You should try it- it's very effortless. Especially if you go online a lot anyway. It's free - google it! Good luck!

7. TickleMeBreathless (440) | 1 week ago | I have started one before, and I wish I would keep it up! For some reason I just can't seem to update it daily. It's a very useful tool, and while I have failed to keep it up before, I believe I should start again. While I was using it on a day to day basis [for a good two weeks] it really did help me see what I should and should not eat. I have found a good website online that helps with this. Not only that but it has informative articles, ways to keep track of your exercise, what you should use as a target calorie intake daily, and so much more! It's been slowly helping me [when I can remember to go on that site!] and I think the next step for me is to remind myself to go on once a day to update things.

8. cerebellum (325) | 6 days ago | I do keep a record of what I eat and how many calories etc. It does seem to help me not overeat especially late night snacks. I don't eat anything that I don't want to write down and if I get to my calorie intake for the day I know it is time to quit. If I don't know the caloric content of a food, I will pass on it. I think I drink more water also. I don't want to use the calories on beverages so I go for water.
