I have this habit when i buy things that i want it to always look new, glossy and scratchless as much as possible. For example, in books i read or buy like i don't like any fold or creases on the pages. i don't write on the pages of the book either. I just write my name on the front page and that is all. And with my cellphone, i want to keep the box that comes with it and also the manual. and i make sure the manual and box are kept well. i don't throw anything and they always look new. though the cell it is unavoidable to have some scratches due to frequent texting on the keypad but i still able to make it look good despite how old the cellphone is. but big scratches on other parts of the cellphone i usually don't have those other scratches.

On my table, like wooden tables, i make sure i don't put on a glass of cold water on it cause sometimes it leaves a white mark on the wooden tables. i make sure to put some place mat on the tables.

And in other things i just want every thing to last long looking new as always. but it is time consuming also to maintain my things new cause i need sometimes to apply some special chemical for some things to make it shiny again and etc.

Do you also have this kind of habit of wanting to make your books and other possession to be look new as always. Do you get disappointed when they don't look good as new.

I am like this myself, when I have my cell phone, I keep it in a phone case, I don't like getting scratches on my cell phone, and with my computer I like to keep it dusted off I am always dusting off my computer I don't like a lot of dirt on my computer, I like my computer to stay new looking, from the time I brought it, and I have a camcorder when I brought it, I brought a case for my camcorder, and I would keep my camcorder in the case, so it would stay new looking to. happythumbup

so nice. i am not alone then in this kind of habit. we can good friends. LOL. yeah i think that it is really nice to keep things every thing looking new like we have to buy a soft case for every thing like cellphones, then cover for computer. but i don't put cover on my computer cause it looks awful when it is covered.

I'm also like that I don't have my things to be damage as much as possible I don't want to borrow it from other people. I think we should valued our things to make it last longer now that it is very hard to buy new things because of the crisis. There's nothing wrong about taking care of our stuffs.

I have some things that I try really hard to keep looking nice and new, such as my cell phone, my books, my laptop, and my major appliances. Other things show wear and tear regarless of what I do, so I have learned to accept that. I think that I am in the only one in my household that does try to keep things looking nice, so it is a big battle at times. I get irritated when I buy something new and have tried to take care of it and find that someone else has ruined it. For example, I have many books and I try to keep them all nice, I allowed one of my kids to borrow one of them and when he returned it to me, it was all bent up and creased. That was pretty irritating to me.

In my case, its not the "looking like new" thing, but rather taking care of my things so that they don't get damaged and that I have to buy new ones. My mother has this nasty habit of encasing everything in plastic, including electronic appliances, and makes it harder to clean.

With books, I also hate folds and creases, one of the reasons why I don't lend books. I cringe when I see people fold paperback novels as if they were magazines.

myLot reputation of 99/100. hotsummer (2681)   ranked 24 out of 37,964 in life  4 weeks ago

i think it is rather irritating when every thing is covered with plastic. i don't go to that extent. just try to protect them that's all. i admit when i was much younger i am not that careful with my things. only this when i kind of get older that i became like this and felt the importance of taking care of things.

i remember once when i was high school student. my youngest brother was only in grade two or three i think, that i was really amazed how my younger brother make sure that his notes and books have all the cover and don't have any folds. and even when he starts to go schooling as kinder garten he was always like neat. like every thing was so neat and is neat. and my mom who was a very neat person kind of irritated sometimes with my younger brother cause he was more neat and was more demanding towards maintaining his clothes and every thing he would use should always be neat and every thing should be in right place always.

I always like to keep my favourite things new,but i fount it was hard .so, of course, i felt disappointed.

myLot reputation of 99/100. hotsummer (2681)   ranked 24 out of 37,964 in life  4 weeks ago

yes i was like that before. it just make me feel tired to be so neat. but when i have learned to appreciate it. i just enjoy being neat now and like it is more like a pressure doing that.

myLot reputation of 99/100. hotsummer (2681)   ranked 24 out of 37,964 in life  4 weeks ago

i mean pleasure rather than pressure.

Hi, hotsummer, you are an absolutely good habit, but as far as so long, I have not gotten a habit to keep things looks new here. maybe i am a little lazy and used to its natural. i need to learn from you, that not only is a good habit, but also can get a economical spending for daily consumption.

myLot reputation of 99/100. hotsummer (2681)   ranked 24 out of 37,964 in life  4 weeks ago

yes it is a good habit actually. but sometimes no matter how hard you try to care for things there are some things that we buy that easily get look old by itself. like the speaker for my speaker. since it is a very cheap kind, i just lost the plastic button for the on/off. anyways, i can still use, it still looks glossy and nice and almost new except for the loss button which i don't how it got lost.

hello hotsummer,it is a good habit to keep possession looks new as alwasy.my parter is totally opposite to you,for example, his cellphone is easily looks old and he have to change a new cellphone per year.
for me,i don't have the habit to make suer all my possessin look new,it need spend much time,i am lazy.while,i like clean these things frequently to make sure it looks tidy and clean, if these things went old, it is a natural process, and i can accept it.

myLot reputation of 99/100. hotsummer (2681)   ranked 24 out of 37,964 in life  4 weeks ago

yeah things look old by itself through months or years of use. it is avoidable but there are things or gadgets that can still look new with care and those things i try to make it look new as much as possible.

I am like that too. We work hard to save for the things we want and I like to take good care of them. I have some books that are over 38 years old! I admit that I am very protective of my things especially books and I am usually reluctant to lend them to anybody which doesn’t always go down well. Having said that I’ve had to learn that it is not always possible for things to always look immaculate and it has been a lesson for me to accept that!

myLot reputation of 99/100. hotsummer (2681)   ranked 24 out of 37,964 in life  4 weeks ago

oh that's too old. though i try to keep the book as new as possible but i give it away when i don't need it . but for books that i will need i will just keep it for as long as i need.

myLot reputation of 100/100. paula27661 (5120)   ranked 188 out of 37,964 in life  4 weeks ago

My 38 year old books were gifts from a dear school teacher and I am keeping them as momentos; they are very special to me. Ordinary books I usually give away or exchange with someone else.

myLot reputation of 99/100. hotsummer (2681)   ranked 24 out of 37,964 in life  4 weeks ago

wow. that must be really special as they were gifts from your teachers. i will surely keep them and care for them if i have books given as gifts to me by people i know.

I see you are very particular to preservation when it comes to stuffs. I admit that I am quite poor at this. I am not so mindful of my things that's why they age, or rot, or disintegrate, or deteriorate early. There are things that I preserve though like appliances but sometimes I still tend to be clumsy in using them so they get broken fast.

myLot reputation of 99/100. hotsummer (2681)   ranked 24 out of 37,964 in life  4 weeks ago

yeah it is really important to care for our appliances. but i am not able to care for all my appliances as there are lots in our homes. but they still work fine but i can always wipe the dirt off from the appliances every day sometimes it looks old if there were dust that get collected on it but i try to wipe those dirt to make it look good again. but sometimes it is hard to take the dirt any more or it leaves some mark already.

As much as possible I take care of thing that I buy and insure that they look great and they are in good condition. Though with wear and tear will always makes it toll later on. But as much as possible, I do try to make them look new.

myLot reputation of 99/100. hotsummer (2681)   ranked 24 out of 37,964 in life  4 weeks ago

yes frequent use make it more vulnerable to wear and tear but with careful use we can still make it look new as much as possible.
