Would you die a martyr for your country?

In this new age where we transfer from one country to another. Do you think dying for a single country would still be practical? Well, I'm not trying to laugh at nationalists but I'm trying to weigh the options. I mean, like my country for example, many have died for it, but still people don't really change nor do they even value our country - they've always wanted to get out of it. So it's like saying that those people who gave their lives to this country did it for nothing really. Do you think it's worth dying a martyr for your country?

I would have to answer NO. My country hasnt ever helped me. I have volunteered and been a good, law abiding citizen my entire life and not once when I have needed help and asked for it have I got it. I dont like the way my country helps its less fortunate. I am sick of looking at all the homeless families out of work because they've lost their job due to lack of funds. All the soldiers we have lost fighting someone else's fight. Think of the parents and wifes, and children. What do they get? A flag. You can get those at the dollar store. They want there loved one. We take care of everyone else except out own. SO I am sorry but the answer is a definite, big, fat, absolutely, positively, NO. dl

You go sister. This cold world just makes for cold war that belongs to someone else, and no food or jobs make for cold and hungry nights. I am so fed up I could scream!

Oh you're absolutely right, there's nothing worth fighting for anymore if the country itself are not fighting for its citizens.

Dont get me wrong Laydee. I am very patriotic when it comes to my country and its heritage. However, the people that we have in control these days have made my country a poster boy for war and interference. I think its great to help our neighbors, allies, or what ever they're called. I dont think the parents, spouses, and loved ones, care what the cause we're fighting for is about. THey want their loved ones back. Enough is enough. I want it to be like when I was younger and we had celebrations for fourth of July and the Bicentennial of our city. No one cares about these things anymore because we are constantly at war with someone or helping the hungry somewhere else. What about our HUNGRY, HOMELESS, and UNEMPLOYED? When these problems are fixed, I will gladly put my life up for my country. dl

Too bad your country does not feel the same. It is one thing to be patriotic and proud another to be used in the name of.

It all depends on what you call dying as a martyr for ones country. If you say that laying down my life will save some lives of my countrymen, yes I would definitely sacrifice myself. But if my life goes for nothing like say a fluke firing incident by some trigger happy hooligan where accidental bullets hit people and I am one of them, I would consider that a waste.
