My 5 old changed his name!!! What in the world???... |
|
While the whole family was gathered in the livingroom after dinner, someone called his name and he decided right there on the spot that that was no longer his name. He told us "That's not my name anymore. My name is Scott" We don't even know anyone who has Scott as a first name or surname... Do other little boys do this?? We still call him by the name he was given at birth, but at a certain time of the evening he resorts back to being Scott..

1. bubblepink (439) | 1 month ago | That is so funny! I guess he got it from television or somewhere else. He's just a kid and you know kids nowadays have huge imagination. Maybe he know some Scott and he admire him that's why he wanted to be called Scott. I guess you can call him Scott as his nickname though he still need to use his real name after all when he grow up.:)

2. tingtong (1170) | 1 month ago | I was in the same situation some 20 years back. My elder son wanted to change his name as Alexander Mathew and wanted us to call him Alex. His real name is a Hindu name,Arvind. We didn't take it seriously until his class teacher sent me a note to meet her. She said my son never responds when called by his name. He changed the labels of all books with his new name. It was very hard for me to bring him back to his original name. I had to struggle a few months before I succeeded. Now he has a family and he is a successful bright man. He has a passion for books and he writes too. So you need not worry. It's your son's imagination. Have a nice day.

3. purplealabaster (811) | 1 month ago | That is very cute! He probably heard the name on television or on the playground or something and liked it. People have nicknames, so maybe he thought that he could choose his own nickname and you would start calling him that. It is very mysterious how a child's mind works, but it is also a wonderful thing. Right now, I can't think of hearing about any other child doing this, but that doesn't mean that it hasn't happened.

4. bucketkid (193) | 1 month ago | i wouldnt fret about it too much. its probably something he is just experimenting with, seeing if he cn push the boundaries.
i decided when i was 16 that everyone had to call me Matt - because i liked the name. that only lasted for about a week though.
dont encourage it but dont discourage it either, soon he will forget about it.

| 6. momof3040708 (54) | 1 month ago | My son just turned 5. I'd say it was over the summer he started sometimes insisting his name was Nick. I think he got it from the kids channel Nickelodeon, cause one day that's what he said, like Nickelodeon, LOL. It went off and on like that for a couple months and eventually went away.

9. chenxiaoyue_713 (697) | 1 month ago | Aha, he is not a teen yet but has already shown a little teen's rebellion. He must be very cute when claiming his new name to the whole family. I always think changing one's name is a kind of disrepect to one's parents. So I've never put it into practice though I often think of getting another name for myself. Don't be bothered. He's just a little kid. He can't figure out something complex. Perhaps as he grows up, he'll think of it no more. Relax!
