Facebook and Other Social Network Sites Phishing Scam In The Wild! |
|
Everyday, when we surf the Internet, we have to face various security related issues, such as Internet viruses, spyware and phishing attacks.
With the popularity of social network websites, more and more choose these sites to keep in touch with their friends, sharing their experiences, uploading their photos of daily life. However, more and more phishing scams regard these sites, such as Facebook, their targets to attack. Therefore, users of these social network sites have to face endless phishing attacks. Now, according to some security reports, phishing attack is currently in the wild.
Yesterday, one of my friends on Facebook suffered this kind of attack and all his photos were lost. In view of these facts, I am timid about uploading my photos any more. Although Facebook and other sites have taken some measures to protect our privacy, I think all users there should be careful.
What's your opinion about this? Have you suffered the harm of phishing scam before? If Facebook won't take more measures to protect our privacy, would you spend time on these sites?

getbrowser (1425) | 2 months ago | Yes, as more and more people use money and share their individual privacy online, it is abvious that Facebook and other popular social network sites on the Internet will face the phishing attacks and users there will suffer the serious harm from these scams and traps.
These sites will be regularly attacked and at the same time, we should learn to keep our privacy under protection.

They sometimes openly share the clue or hint or key point of doing hacking on various forum base site. I agree with your stats about this issue which it's now going wild and wilder.
Not just spreading their hacking technique in forum base site, they broaden their activities by publishing this kind of writing articles on blog pages. Proudly announced they have successfully done in many social sites and the worst part they evoked others to follow their steps by supplying the javascript and the steps of implementing. This kind of 'hype' must be stopped immediately.

getbrowser (1425) | 2 months ago | It is really an annoying thing if we are living a society full of hackers, various viruses and phishing scams.
With the popularity of these social network websites, it seems that these hackers are improving their ways to cheat us. In order to avoid being cheated, we have to be careful all the time.

I would say to go ahead but keep a back up. I have a thumb drive that I keep all my pictures and files on. It is always a good idea to have a back up.

getbrowser (1425) | 2 months ago | As Facebook becomes more and more popular all over the world, many people have spent much time on it and have lots of pictures and other information on there. Yes, we do that just because we believe Facebook and their privacy guidelines.
But in order to avoid the lose of our personal information, a backup is really a necessity. Sometimes, we may face a loss if we believe Facebook completely.

4. fjaril (4543) | 2 months ago | Hi! Nice point you make here. I have said it for awhile to friends and family who want me to be there. It is a bother for them to have to email me fotos too when they have already posted them on Facebook. They all love facebook and more and more of my friends and acquaintances are joining. But not I!!and It isn't gonna happen till it is a SAFE sight. I also have had negative experience there because of an apparent glitch?? in the breach of confidence situation they have set up there.. so I honestly told them what I thought and wondered what part of confidential did I not understand, nor Facebook either? I believe I was on FAcebook for one day only( if that long)

6. firemom31 (324) | 2 months ago | I got hit with the FaceBook bug last night. It is not a phishing scam, but is malware that infiltrates your account. It steals your FB password, sends messsages to your friends on your behalf, hijacks your browser. It is nasty and difficult to get rid of, and affects your entire computer, not just FB. It is gotten by clicking on a video link within FaceBook. If you don't click on any video links, no matter who it's from, you should be safe. In FaceBook's defense, they froze my account within minutes of me catching the bug, provided me with scanning tools to get rid of it, and made it fairly easy to restore my account once I had cleaned it out. By the way, it's name is KoobFace.

getbrowser (1425) | 2 months ago | When we tend to spend lots of time on Facebook, and then the popularity of Facebook attracts some hackers’ eyes too. When these hackers pay more attention to Facebook and other social network websites, our personl information, such as photos of our daily life, have been their “goals”.
Perhaps these malicious software aim to steal our Facebook password and other information, but then they may affect our entire computer, which is really annoying.

getbrowser (1425) | 2 months ago | It is next to impossible for me to stay away from Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and other social network websites. Of course, I guess most people here can’t continue their daily life without these social network sites. So, it is obvious that we have to face the phishing scams and other viruses.
For the long run, we(Facebook and other sites, users and security softwares) should take some measures to keep our privacy under protection other than keeping away from them.

9. Agoenxz (219) | 2 months ago | Well, fortunatelly i haven't experiencing this before... And, i hope not! Well, i suggests we should be more carefull in putings our personal identity, etc... In any sites. Just make sure that the address are correct, and not a phising, fake/imitations sites. And i think beside the owner of these famous websites should increase their security levels, they also have to make mass announcements to their members and publics on how to prevent this kind of phisings, etc... TakeCare!

10. starscream (625) | 2 months ago | I agree. I don't like the display picture shown openly to unwanted people yet facebook, orkut shows to them people. I want it to show to only my selected friends. But they're doing the opposite. Also SPAM registrations and get-rich-quick makers are entering in the social network this causes many people being scammed. So profile registrations should have captcha and mobile phone activation method to avoid scam profiles.
I think security on social network needs to be increased.
