http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolumnists/fort_hood_xjP9yGrJN7gl7zdsJ31vnJ Do you think that they should start screening the people in the army to find the sleepers? also do you think they really need to do real good background checks before letting them join? When my hubby had to get Security clearance we had to go back 15 years to prove where we lived and who he had worked for! and that was a chore when we had moved so much withthe job he had!

It is getting too easy for people to scam and become someone they are not. With all the technology now days it becomes easy to become anyone and do just about anything. It is scarey too. Shameful!! Sure. Anything we can do about it? Not much. Catch one and three more pop up somewhere else.

The thing too is that there were signs that he should have been drummed out of the service but the PC sh*t sticks here too. and I found out that he was born here in the states. Just dont get how he was so devote that he didthis thing unless he was a sleeper.

The Army does screen the people who join the miltary. They also screen their wives if they have a security clearance.......At least they did in 1962, I know this because my Ex-husband had a top secret clearance and the FBI talk to some people in my home town about me..... They wanted to know if I had any problems when I was growing up.....And I don't think they have changed it since then....They knew about this guy who shoot up Fort Hood a long time ago....They just didn't want to do anything about him in fear he would say they were prejust against him because he was a Muslin and the Army didn't need that.... He wanted and education but hated the United States.....You really can't blame the Army because if they would have tried boot him out he could have said that the were prejust against him....

Well I think they should have booted him out and any one who says and does things that look like they might go crazy like this feller did . To heck with this PC thing going on. Now they need to recheck every one very carefully before it happens again!

I think it is a matter of security and all government jobs should be screened. You never know who wants to infiltrate the military or government, police force etc and why.

No, I don't believe that we need to start acting paranoid when it comes to every enlisted man in the military. What I do believe is that things like psychological reviews should be taken seriously and that red flags should be given top priority, not overlooked entirely. The military dropped the ball with this guy. He had problems and should not have been left to continue to spiral downward until he acted.

What good are screening and background checks if they're not going to act on them? Major Hasan gave warning signs, but nothing was done about it. Even though Americans were killed or wounded, they're still tip toeing around the Muslims, insisting we be politically correct.

I didn't want to be unfair and speculate as this first happened, but the way it's unfolding, it's becoming very clear that this schmuck was an Islamic fundamentalist terrorist, and they had suspected he might be as much for a long time but were too "PC" to do anything about it. My beef is with the "who" in the situation. Does this lack of dealing with a problem come from fear of calling out a Muslim? Did someone in the Army fear a presidential investigation? Did they not want to be all over MSNBC and CNN as the worst racial/religious profilers in the whole entire world because they did their jobs? Yeah, as I've read someone else write previously, it would seem as if, to our media and political culture, an abortion doctor getting killed is the vile act of a vicious right-wing terrorist, but this is just a nut gone wild. Huh? I think they did a pretty good job of finding out about this guy trying to contact an Al-Qaeda recruiter and his dreams to go all Jihad on America. So the "screening," per se, seems to be on point. It's the handling things overtly politically that seems to be the problem. We MUSN'T offend any minority, no matter what!! So we can't even hold someone responsible for plotting acts of terrorism if they're non-white/non-Christian. This crap has to stop. If a Muslim is offended because a wannabe terrorist is kicked out of the Army, then maybe they should be kicked out of the country!! lol PC my white azz. We're talking about terrorists and innocent lives here.

I read his reasns for it was because he was Muslim. I also read his psychological reviews were poor, but they were going to send him oversease anyway.

Someone is going to get into major trouble over this. He should have been found out about sooner and kicked out of the military. Some one if not ones miltary career will go down the drain over it. But they do have to becareful. If they just start kicking people out on the basis that htey are muslim...they will get sued for discrimination. So they will have to be real careful how they go about it and who they kick out.

well, those are the ugly truth the army should need to employ more stringent counter actives measures to protect their own as how could they protect their own people if on their own base they are being victimized.. they should be the one to set the best examples as a model for them to be more respected...

what gets me is the signs were there no one wanted to act for it might not be political correct!!!! Or that what be thought of as attacking a minority. by damn they need to really screen every intrant from now on and maybe start back checking on others that might have this kind of back ground. So sad this feller is still alive!
