parenting... | | What, if anything, is there to do with a roommate who won't manage their child. The 2 and a half year old was waging WWIII because she didn't want to go to bed. The parent was in the next room and said "she'll get used to it when she learns she needs to go to bed." I was downstairs, child was upstairs behind a door and I got chills from the screams. I am a new parent and have a 2 month old down the hall in another room. Is it reasonable for me to expect this kind of behavior from my child at 2.5? Is it reasonable to just stand by and watch it happen as the parent? Any words of wisdom on how to deal with the situation would be appreciated!

But I can say that my parents, especially our mom, raised us well. We were trained how to discipline ourselves at a very young age. We knew when it's already time for bed, and we knew our limitations when it comes to play time and watching television. I believe that if parents will inculcate discipline in the mind of their children as early as possible then all parents won't experience this kind of dilemma from their own kids.=)

And you have got to ask yourself, are you going to accept this behavior from your roommate and child, or are you going to take the initiative, and 'demand' the situation be dealt with to your threshhold! Your roommate needs to understand, that in this situation there are two parties involved, and her childs' behavior is invading your right of privacy! If she was in her own home, with no other parties involved she could let the child do anything she wanted to, but that is not the case in this situation, because it interferes with your rights and privacy! I believe she should make the effort to correct this invasion of your rights! These are the words of wisdom!
These are not the words of wisdom, but they are the words or actions I would do in this situation! I am a strong personality, and for me this would be no problem, I would just tell her and give her an ultimatum, and tell her and her child to get out, or straighten up! I've had situations like this try to occur to me, and that is what I had to do, or else my privacy would be violated!
I don't know how strong a personality you are, but it is left up to you as the final decision! This is all I can help you with!

| tripmarty (35) | 1 month ago | good call. I am a strong personality, sometimes too strong and I can come across very abrasive. Putting it in a way that is softer is a challenge for me rather than just stating what the situation is and needs to be fixed.
