So, I'm at Walmart... |
| |
| picking up some kitty treats for my client. I turn around and there's this young man looking at flea products. Being the nosy, buttinsky that I am, I said: "I wouldn't buy anything by Hartz." He started then said: "I've heard that. I was looking for Frontline." "They don't sell that here," I stated the obvious. "Now, you can get it at pet stores, but," thinking of it while I was talking," you'd probably do even better by going to Animal Trustees." "They sell that?" he seemed surprised. I said yes and then told him where they were. Turned out, he actually had a good idea of where they were at. I then described where to go to get the flea stuff - because he didn't want to pay $180 to the vet for his 3 dogs for a 3 months supply of Advantage. I told him that it was over $300 for flea stuff for one month for our cats, because we had a rescue, and that was FROM ATA. So, he left Walmart without buying anything and I got the kitty treats. But I was left with a warm fuzzy feeling that I had once again prevented someone from harming their animal by buying stuff from Hartz. So, my friends, don't by Hartz flea stuff, I've heard absolute horror stories of animals getting sick or dying from their stuff. Not that 100% of their stuff is bad, but better safe than sorry - right? has any of your animals been harmed by a flea product? | | | | | |

| | Harmed? No. Helped? Again, no. I bought some Zodiac brand flea treatment that did nothing except make Harmony mad at me. (Speaking of whom, she jumped into my chair when I got up to check the brand.) | | | | | | |

| | Those flea collars are even more toxic. Think about it, they warn you to use gloves when putting it on and removing it. Uh..if I have to use gloves to put the product on my pet, I ain't gonna use it. | | | |

| | Elic- Thanks for the updates hun. I had heard stories and always thought frontline was the best, but I've never used that either with any of my pets. Our kitty is an indoor gal so I've never used anything. We've never had any issues with her, and her Vet checks her out once a year. If it is this bad, why is it still on the market? It seems like if something is poor for humans they rip it right down, but when it comes to our precious housemates they'd leave anything up that is harmful. Thanks again for the information. | | I have known indoor only pets with major flea problems, brought into the house by the owner. Why its still on them market? because they have BIG BUCKS to keep the lawsuits from keeping them on the market | | | |

| | It is always good to save animals by getting people to not buy things that could harm animals and we have two chihuahuas that are both about two years old and my mother buys their flea stuff from a magazine because it is cheaper and it supposed to help the animals longer, and I do not trust everything that Wal Mart says or sales because I work at Wal Mart and it is a bad place, they do not care about the employees or the customers they only care about the bottom line which is the dollar,as long as they make money they are happy. | | | | | | |

| | I know what is safe and what isn't. I wouldn't buy flea stuff at Walmart - like I told the fellow. However, the prices can't be beat - and if the employees don't like the way they are treated, they can quit. | | | |
hellcowboy (5009)

| | No you can not just quit a job in this economy since there is no guarantee so that is not true, even if they do not like it they have to put up with the crap until they can find another job. | | | |

| | then they should just be grateful they have a job at all If I hadn't been facing getting fired or buying out to retire, I wouldn't have retired. But I knew that was pretty much my choice and that was in 2005. And while I can't say everyone I've ever met at Walmart has acted happy, most of them seem more cheerful than I've seen at other places. I think they are taking the attitude that any job is better than no job - especially if they don't have a lot of skills. | | | |

| | Most people will force themselves to be happy and be miserable behind it all like me they treat me like crap, the other day it was crowded and I was the only Cart Pusher out there and it took me almost passing out and not being able to breath before they agreed to send me help because one person can not do it especially not around Christmas since everyone has seemed to be out doing Christmas shopping, and I know they do the same to the other Cart Pushers and even employees inside or at least at the Wal Mart I work at. | | | |

| | Sounds like you did your good deed for the day. I like to give people advice to at the store if I think they need it or if they ask for it. Glad you mentioned about the Hartz. I never heard of that. I'll have to make sure my friends know about that too. | | | | | | |

| | No, I have never used any flea or tick products on my cat that my vet didn't prescribe for her. The only thing I would use a Hartz flea collar for is to put it in my vacuum bag. Apparently, if you have any fleas in your carpeting and you vacuum them up, the collar will kill them inside the vacuum bag. I would never put a Hartz collar or flea drops on my cat. I have heard way too many horror stories of people's animals getting sick or dying from that stuff. | | | | | | |

| | I have heard that, but I don't have any carpeting in my house - because of the cats - so I don't need to do that. I stick to Frontline or another vet recommended flea product. | | | |
