So I was driving in the car with my mum and sister. My sister notices that someone's license plate said they were an organ donor. My sister said she is going to donate her organs when she dies, my mum (who just got really into being religious a few years ago) said she would not. I asked her why and she said it was because she might need her organs in heaven. Now I am not Christian and I do not belittle the faith. I have knowledge of many religions and also I believe in the fact that no matter what we all believe in, we just do not know for sure. We can BELIEVE for sure, and have FAITH in what we believe in, but as far as proof, there is none (and please don't tell me any religious texts are proof because they really aren't). Now, I told her she wouldn't need them because it is just your spirit that goes to heaven, not your body. She told me that she would want her body all together if she went to heaven so she could see God. I then told her you can't see God. She said, you do not know that. I said, I know, but you don't know there even really is heaven. So really my thing is, it is a roundabout argument. She is worried about herself after she dies, her spirit, her energy, her essence, whatever, not being "complete" when in fact our spirits (in my belief) don't necessarily have a shape, or eyes, or hearts or mouth. Ghosts can appear in the shapes they did before, but they don't need to, they are just energy, they just ARE. You know? So, my mum would rather not donate organs from her dead body to help those who are still living because she is worried that her ethereal or energy or spirit body won't have those organs (she said she wanted to have her eyes so she could see God), yet in most beliefs there is not need for those sorts of things, which is why it is considered a spirit or energy, and the body considered a vessel. Anyway, I dropped the conversation since it was a no-win situation since everything can be halted with the fact that we just do not know for sure. I still think she is being a bit greedy by trying to keep her organs in a body she would no longer need, but whatever its hers.

Anyway, my thing is, what do you think about that? Or do you just accept the fact that we just don't know for sure and we can all believe what we want and be happy until we find out? I accept the fact that we don't know, and everyone can believe in what they want, I don't care, but I just found it odd that she would think her body would need organs for her soul to have them (especially since when I was little she told me that when someone who has a problem like who is blind, or handicap etc. dies and goes to heaven that they are whole and better again, but of course this could just be another religious fairytale of sorts since we just don't know).

Please no belittling or rude comments, no "Jesus/God is the truth" or anything like that, just your opinions on what I wrote.

my opinion...

with my belief and faith, it says that after we die, second coming, rapture and all that goes with it says, that our body will change, we will be given a glorified body, we will never hunger nor thirst... and all that, so i dont think physical organ will still be needed.

It's odd she thinks something like that, but I've heard and seen more odd than that, like here in my place sometimes a dead person will have a food in the other hand and money in the other while inside the coffin, they said the food to eat while traveling (the soul) and the money (i dont know, probably fare? - confused).

I don't donate organs or blood, I guess I sorta think like a Jehovah Witness in that manner, anyways I know for sure God did not intend for us to do such things, the bible is clear in the old testament how it feels about blood, we are not to consume animal or human blood, we are not even supposed to consume our very own blood, this is clear.

I know consuming and injecting are different things, but were not supposed to be messing with blood period, now honestly if I needed blood would I accept it, I think so yeah, does this make me a hypocrite yeah probably, I would pray for forgiveness and maybe even fast, I dunno never been in that situation.

As far as needing your organs for Heaven, well I don't think so, considering how every affliction should be healed.

Well, you couldn't really say that your right also about spirits or energy having no shape because I think those descriptions came from text that man made. I couldn't also give my opinion because I'm a Christian and my answers would be coming from the Bible and my belief from God. Happy mylotting!

A thought just occured to me, when you die and go to heaven how come your body is in the morgue and after a while is burried and remains there forever even when it becomes a skeleton. The point I would like to make is this, our body does not go to heaven but our spirit our bodies rot in the grave. God is spirit and he does not deal with our body but spirit.

I’m sure this is just one of those childish whims and arguments which many of our parents start having once they start aging and prepare themselves, in their own way, to meet their God or whatever they believe in. I’m sure that no matter what you say or how logical your arguments are, she’ll not change her mind LOL
Each and every religion says that its just our spirit which goes back to God and the body is just a piece of cloth that the spirit wears during its journey on earth. Each and every religion therefore has customs of disposing off the body once death sets in…the body without the spirit is like a machine. Once the machine stops and the spirit leaves, there is no further use of the body and its best if it can be used for some beneficial purpose.
One thing about organ donation is that many people are not comfortable with the ideal of having ‘their’ body maimed after death…it is nothing but ignorance and illusion about our own soul.

Thanks for the input. I'm not trying to change her mind, but it does sound more "logical" to me anyway that you wouldn't need your organs, but like I said, whatever people believe in is fine with me. I had just never heard anyone argue that before. And I think that it does come from pretty much all religions believing that everyone has a spirit of some sort that at death (or if you believe in other stuff during dreams or astral travel etc) is seperated from the body and the body. In the case of death, the body is no longer needed, and yes there are ceremonies for disposing of the body. I personally want this eco-friendly pod thing where they put you inside of it (looks sort of like a giant egg) and then they grow a tree on top. To me I think the vision of a beautiful forest of trees with plaques on them (for the person's name and dates etc) would be more beautiful and natural to visit that a lawn with headstones and coffins in the ground. It might even be like part of that person lives on through the tree. And in this world we can't really complain about having more trees in the world to clean our air and just make the world greener looking. Could you imagine that though like an entire forest of trees instead of plots with headstones? There would be paths through them and you could take a stroll and it would just seem more peaceful and less feeling like you are surrounded by the dead. I don't know, might just be me, but that is what I want. =)

Thanks great comments and views!

Thanks and yes, the concept of having a cemetery full of tall lush trees instead of white headstones is both environmentally beneficial and visually pleasing…I’m glad you have this in mind. As a born Hindu, I’ll be cremated, though and my ashes will be dispersed in the river causing further pollution!

Yes you're right. the most important thing we should keep in mind is that we don't know at all about life after death. sometime i imagine that death is just transformation of energy. what kind of energy we will be, i don't know. but i'm sure that our physical body we have for now won't be the same anymore in our new existence.

i dont think that any one who dies need to have all their organs with their body coz we cant even say that our body requires them as i heard that a died man would take birth immediately at another place so every thing is afresh like new life with new body and organs too.gud day.

I believe your mom is faithful and you say she's a christian. It's really good for her to believe and have faith but she's a bit misinformed or did she just took the bible literally. She needs to be guided, it's not bad for her to believe in that way but she must understand what she is trying to believe

Hello everyone
I think that donating your organs is at no 1 position in the list of "things to do after you die".
This is not only sacred deed but you can make someone's life by it.
For example by donating your eyes you can help someone see this beautiful world.
Also you can leave your last sign on this planet by this type of charity.
Now about your mother.
I think that she is surely afraid to die or talking about donating her organs to others. She may think why should I give my organs to others? What she will do without them?
She has drilled some bad thoughts like this deep into her mind.
The time has cure for every disease.
Any way you do donate your organs and also encourage your sister and mother to do the same.
Good Luck
Happy mylotting.

Hi Bomboo,

This is really a good thoughts of your mother and also we are NOT
sure that whether donating the organs to the donor is accepted
or not, but any how we should respect the God faith and also I am
really appreciating your mother thoughts, donating the organ is
depends upon the mentality of the peoples and we never mind or
compel somebody to go for that, so better to give her more confidence
on her thoughts and also she is the one to decide her belief and reach
to the God in the heaven in order to finish the judgment days. According
to my strong belief there is only one God in this world who does not
have the any structure, and also we have to obey to him and pray to him
in order to ask our forgiveness for our sins.

Have a great day.

BambooPanda13,

From experience, I'd just put this mildly across your mother is not comfortable donating her organs period. It does not have anything to do with religion and like quite a number of old folks I've been with they just do not want it - even if you tell them that they would not feel anything at all since they are dead.

Organ donation is really not catching up with the older generations and I do not think they can come to terms with it without proper knowledge and counseling. They just do not see the significance especially when there is another quarter who thinks that their harvested organs will do more harm to the recipient than good. They are just unaware of the stringent process and tests that have to be conducted before they can proceed with the transplant.

Besides, I feel that this organ donor thing is good for the general population where it will create a healthy living awareness to keep their bodies and organs in good health so that their deaths can have a different meaning especially when lives can be saved.
