"I'm king of the mountain"

I have been going to bed earlier recently, first because of the amount of pain I'm in from both the residual effects of the knee replacement and the fracture of my back from last month. The second reason is that I have been depressed and wondering why I am bothering to get up and struggle through the day. To crawl in bed (which is a heated water bed) I have to move four cats around and hope to get a section of bed that I will fit in. So, last night after moving cats I managed to settle down for a "long winter's nap".
I woke up this morning with a start, there was a thud and a cat yowling. I assumed the worse...then there was the clatter of paws racing down the hall from my bedroom to my work room, and the thunder of paws heading back. By then I was sitting up, and was amazed to see Khuay spring from across a 10 foot room to land on their perch under a window. Then he and his brother Willy started wrestling and growling at each other. Soon they were on their backs kicking each other wildly with "rabbit kicks". They were inching dangerously towards the edge of the perch...then it happened, Willy fell off the "mountain". He raced down the hall, to the work room and back- and up on top of the mountain to start the battle again. The winner of each encounter would let rip with a yowl that could only be translated as "I'm king of the mountain". It was like they were taking turns falling off the mountain...
It was a wonderful way to start the morning, watching these two crazy idiots playing and my laughing at their antics. The morning entertainment was topped only by my drive into town from my home and seeing the beauty and majesty of a female bald eagle sitting on a fence post beside the road that I drive to class. It made the day truly enchanting!!

What a wonderful way to start the day.
Cats are a constant source of of entertainment and companionship. Then seeing the eagle as well - a wonderful way of starting the day.
I can relate to "moving four cats around" as well, I usually have two or three of my five cats, (well, four and a kitten) sleeping on my bed every night. If I need to get up in the night to go to the bathroom, I always have to check to see where the cats are before I get up so that I don't accidentally dump one onto the floor as I throw the covers back. I generally have to move at least one cat out of the way before I can get out of bed.

I love it when a day starts like that.. If i didn't have my animals I would wonder why i continue to get out of bed every morning too. They make me laugh. They also frustrate me and injure me constantly- but Just watching the kittens play and realizing I am smiling makes my day. Watching the dogs wrestle outside is great fun, I sometimes join in.. only to get a little peeved when I end up covered in muddy paw prints, but.. I knew that was going to happen (it's a daily occurrence)
I love watching nature too- we had a big hawk land in our back yard a couple of weeks ago.. since we are in the middle of the city this is not something we see daily.. It was so close I spent a few minutes studying it, then it flew to another tree and some crows started dive bombing it. I went in the house and spent the better part of an hour researching hawks that are known to frequent our area and looking a photos of them. I came to the conclusion that the hawk that landed only about 30 feet above me was a rare bird in my state. And that made me feel good -i saw something not too many others get the chance to see (or even pay attention to when they do) I just wish I had my camera Handy!
I'm glad your day started off so wonderfully!
